I'd be wary of offering him up as an arbitrater if I were you. He's great self publicist but a poor scientist who is remarkably cagey when asked for specifics and data regarding his testing. edit to add: bit off topic but not really http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2002/04.18/09-tummo.html extract: 'During visits to remote monasteries in the 1980s, Benson and his team studied monks living in the Himalayan Mountains who could, by g Tum-mo meditation, raise the temperatures of their fingers and toes by as much as 17 degrees. It has yet to be determined how the monks are able to generate such heat. The researchers also made measurements on practitioners of other forms of advanced meditation in Sikkim, India. They were astonished to find that these monks could lower their metabolism by 64 percent. "It was an astounding, breathtaking [no pun intended] result," Benson exclaims. To put that decrease in perspective, metabolism, or oxygen consumption, drops only 10-15 percent in sleep and about 17 percent during simple meditation. Benson believes that such a capability could be useful for space travel. Travelers might use meditation to ease stress and oxygen consumption on long flights to other planets. In 1985, the meditation team made a video of monks drying cold, wet sheets with body heat. They also documented monks spending a winter night on a rocky ledge 15,000 feet high in the Himalayas. The sleep-out took place in February on the night of the winter full moon when temperatures reached zero degrees F. Wearing only woolen or cotton shawls, the monks promptly fell asleep on the rocky ledge, They did not huddle together and the video shows no evidence of shivering. They slept until dawn then walked back to their monastery.' I would welcome an explanation that fits the western science paradigm. They would tell you they are utilising chi/prana. If you're going to tell me we don't fully understand how the mind/body works I'd agree with you, but wouldn't that also mean this counts as supernatural according to western thinking, because science doesn't understand or recognise it. but what do I know

From earlier in the thread re. subjective v objective reality, to my mind there's nothing that can be described without some subjectivity. Your reality may be different of course, as its subjective. mind is gravity but what do I know

.. I think that is all you really need to know. t as .. And that as well I track a lot because I love it so will do solos sometimes if I can't find anybody to track with. I came to realise I wasn't learning as much if not flying relative to somebody. I'll do RW instead if it's that or a solo track. Most of the time. I've started jumping tracking pantz sometimes and know they won't make me a better tracker either but its fun to stay up for longer. but what do I know

Constructive comment. I take it you voted no. but what do I know

Slightly off topic (but not really, as everything is connected haha). There is plenty more than anecdotal evidence for paranormal abilities. The military know this and have been studying it for years and healers have been shown to remotely alter matter (bacteria, beyond statistical significance). Western dogma means the evidence generally gets ignored, (too much of a mind-fuck)If you wish to find it (evidence), a certain degree of being 'open' to it might be necessary first. Hope this helps

New Zealand parachutist gets line twists shocker!
iamsam replied to cpoxon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Quote Slow news day in Haruru Falls? A Civil Aviation Authority spokesperson said the incident could be reported to the New Zealand Parachute Industry Association, which would then lodge it with the CAA. ..and in other news, the sheep of Northland are said to be very happy with the grass they're feeding on. 'Baaaaaa' said one. but what do I know -

I think us humans are more base than we generally realise and the subconscious mind has more influence than we'd like to credit. Not realising this is our coping mechanism and probably a necessary one. I've had sex with someone and regretted it, and known I'd regret beforehand but still done it, so I'd agree with that to a certain extent. You may be more virtuous but what do I know

Not much help but isn't it air traffic control that's always a problem in the UK? but what do I know

there you have it I would agree with what seems the general consensus in this thread, its never acceptable, and my instinct is to say it's a slippery slope and if you fail to draw the line the first time where have you left yourself. But I have seen people work through this and relationships survive and be stronger for it, so whatever works for sunshine: incidents are never isolated, everything is connected. deep but not heavy

I met Steve at hinton last weekend, and yes the £$£$£$ is the first&foremost obstacle, but I wouldn't bet against him. The 52k jump sounds on for this year but it's the big one beating kittingers record that's the holy grail. I think its fucking coolimagine an exit with blackenss above you and the curvature of the earth below you, I dream about the reality. In my fantasies, 10, 20 years from now (I can wait), space jumps are available to jumpers the way north pole/everest jumps are today. Hearing the cost and the difficulty of even buying a full pressure suit was a bit of a reality check. Don't care sign me up. always worth reposting- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrBZeWjGjl8 but what do I know

you don't need to look at the mantlepiece when you're poking the fire you do choose who you fuck, even if for all the wrong reasons you don't choose who you fall in love with, reason doesn't come into it so I'm told but what do I know

I think these are wise words I once overheard, at a very pertinent time you don't choose who you fall in love with but what do I know
