  1. It will be 3 yrs. on July 29. Hardest thing I ever had to do. I've quit alot of dependancys but cigs were by far the worst. I did it cold turkey. I was at the dropzone one day and was puffing one in the packing area and a seasoned jumper made the comment that if I burned a hole in somebodies parachute that there would be hell to pay. I had been wanting to quit for sometime anyway so I went home that night and sat down and weighed the good and bad. I could come up with thousands of good reasons to quit but couldn't come up with one good reason to continue. I smoked my last butt that night. I had tried before but always thought that I can smoke just one. WRONG. If I ever smoke just one I know that I will be a full time smoker again. Good luck and good job. One day at a time. It's one of the best things you will ever do for yourself. By the way, I smoked for 27 yrs. before I put them down. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  2. I remember watching jumpers yawn and fall asleep on the way to altitude and think to myself, how can they do that? Now I yawn and fall asleep on the way to altitude. But only after checking my gear 5 or 6 times. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  3. Yes. I've had in the neighborhood of 20 free jumps this way. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  4. After seeing the pic that skydvrblond attatched for Amazon I now know that I had met David tho I did not know him well. The loss for all involved is to great to really express in words. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  5. It has taken me a few days to really come to grips with this tradgedy. My heart and feelings go out to all family and friends of all involved. As Lena has said, alot of people knew Joel but did not know David. I am in that catagory. I'm not sure that I ever met David but I sure wish that I had. Also I had not had the chance to meet Troy. I did however know Joel. I will forever miss his big smile and his wonderful uplifting attitude. On March 4th of this year we were at the Prairie doing some jumps in the snow. At the end of the day Joel needed to do a recurrancy tandem jump and asked me if I would be his passenger. I feel lucky and honored that he asked me to go on that jump with him. It was a whole new experience having had 140 jumps since my beginning tandems. I will miss him incredibly up there. Blue Skies my friend. I will see you again someday. 6. Basically to keep them from snagging on anything on deployment. you just want them coming out clean and in sequence with the rest of your deployment. This will hopfully prevent line twists or worse. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  7. Once my lines are stowed on the deployment bag I have aprox. 18 inches of line left. I bring my bag past the bottom of my container, tuck in my risers, and lay the extra line in the bottom of the pack tray in orderly folds. Then I bring my deployment bag back up and lay it in the pack tray just the way it will be whan fully packed. Then I carefully tuck it all in being sure not to upset my line stows. Then I close my container as usual. So far so good. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  8. Soda Pop is loaded with sugar so it will get very sticky and attract dirt and grit like a magnet which will end up being very abrasive. Follow masterrigs advice. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  9. 1 mile! Don't you know how to walk? I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.

  11. Just do it. You will love it. I was never as scared in my life as I was before my first AFF jump. You will get over it. The fear will turn into respect for what you are doing. Welcome to the sport and good luck. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  12. I had one car in high school, a 64 Olds super 88 that I paid $35 for so we called it the Econo-rod. And a red 68 Pontiac Catalina that we called the Red Rocket cuz we were always in space. I also had a 67 Chevy that would go through a gallon of oil on a bad day so her name Oilwell. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  13. For the last four yrs. I have had a certain way of stowing the extra 18 inches or so of lines below my risers to my deployment bag. I never really liked it and sometimes had semi hard or off heading openings. Last month in know your rig they showed me a different option and also recomended not putting the bag in the containor lines down and then turning it into place. Have done 5 jumps with the new procedure and love it. Thanks parachutist. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  14. Yes. We have an 03 Green, LL Bean Edition Subaru Outback. We call her the Green Bean. Pretty original huh? I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  15. A mouse head. That's bad. I have a can of Cambells Chicken Noodle soup here at work with me and now I will probably never be able to eat it cause I would be looking for the body. So all they sent you was coupons, that's pretty cheap. Doesn't sound like you are one of these sue happy people. Good for you. Sometimes shit just happens, especially in an operation that big. 16. It's kinda funny that one hair can make people freak but you can bury your face in your girlfriends hair and love it. So one is bad but a million is alright. P.S. What is the last sound a pubic hair makes before it hits the ground? Ptooie. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  17. Hair is bad enough but wait till you find a band-aid. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.

    More cowbell

Thanks, that is one of my all time fav, SNL skits. I've been listening to Blue Oyster cult since 1976 and never heard the cowbell in Don't Fear The Reaper until I seen that skit. Now it's all I hear. Funny funny shit man. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  20. Do you know why they bury lawyers 10 feet deep instead of 6? cause deep down they are pretty good people. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  21. I see the funny and the sad. Bottom line is to keep control of your animal. A little paint is not going to hurt him. About 2 yrs. ago there were a few families camping around here and one families dog was running loose in the camp ground. Some drunk psychotic SOB got pissed and cut the dogs head off with a chainsaw and carried it back to the owners campsite, threw it in amongst the family and said there is your fucking dog. That sadistic SOB is now doing time at the Montana State Pen, and rightfully so. If it had been my dog, he never would have made it to court, cuz I own a chainsaw too. 24. Good point. No I didn't skydive in the third grade, but I wanted to even then. I had to rely on jumping off the porch with a sheet, but still didn't break any bones. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
  25. I never have, never thought of it. But now that you mention it...... I wonder what my wife would think of a little fun with me wearing my rig. Hmmmm, I'll let you know. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
