NEWS FLASH - Horses, Balance, Dogs, Balance and Making the Rounds
sartre replied to Gawain's topic in The Bonfire
That would be Laura, my physical terrorist. Don't let her beauty deceive you...I'll leave it at that. She's way cool, evil sometimes, but cool. Fixed your typo for you. -
Do you know anybody famous (other than Skygods&goddesses)
sartre replied to sartre's topic in The Bonfire
Well, of course people are just people, well-known or not. Duh!! I'm not saying that famous makes them anything special...just that a lot of people know who they are. I just find it fun to watch my friend's brother make out on TV when I know he has a perfectly lovely marriage and two beautiful kids. I have to cover my eyes, actually, because I am embarassed for his sister! -

Yeah, I know, but I wasn't thinking about the fact that you ride the short bus. -

2 tandems at one time, then AFF in another weekend for one friend, another went straight to AFF and did it in something like 4 days. (Had great weather and $$ situation plus time off from work). -

Don't know much about the area you're talking about, but I can tell you that I have heard of a few people completing their AFF in a weekend or just a few days. It can be done, and by those standards, you've got all the time in the world. Good luck, and I'm totally jealous!! -

The 6 degrees of separation thing came up at work today. Here are my very weak claims to fame: I met Michael Landon while he was filming his last series in Pasadena, Ca. Impressions: He was short, had scummy jeans on and tennies. I wasn't impressed, but then again, I was in my 20's and shallow. My best friend in Cali grew up with & went to High School with John Stamos (I've seen pictures & I know where his mom lives). And a good friend of mine is the sister of Tom Scott Everett. BTW, he has a new series out called "Saved". That's as close as I get to knowing anybody famous. I'm sure there's better stories out there, though. 'Fess up! -

does that involve sand? -
But more importantly, are the remaining kittens still intact?

Hmmm....I can tell you that in my experience, the higher the intellect, the better in bed they've been. By a long shot, I might add. Not that I have a ton of experience..... no really, I don't....

I had a great "date night" with my 13-yr old daughter. On the way to the movie, we were inundated with hail--some of it golf-ball sized. We drove for cover underneath a bank drive-up lane, along with several other cars. It was such an adventure!! When we got to the movie, it had already started, so we "snuck" into a different one. When we got home, she put on her music and we practiced our headbanger dancing for the Warped Tour next month. All in all, a really fun night.

Many years ago, I was on Match.com. I had a few dates--one led to a 3-month relationship. I met guys that I knew immediately I never wanted to see again, guys that I liked that never called again, and everything in between. There's something to be said for chemistry-you just can't tell how that's going to be in person. That said, if you're game, it's worth a try. I have a very good friend who was doing it at the same time. She met a man and they married within three months. Although I was very worried for her, they're still together and very happy to this day. It certainly worked well for her! Just be very careful Rosa!

I know I'm not supposed to think this is funny...

While I agree that we don't have enough facts to rush to condemnation of the parents of this child, there is nothing humorous about this situation. period. -
That would be a good one for someone wanting to see the effects of various abuses on one's organs. Honestly, though, I was bored at it. But I've studied the shit out of the human body, particularly musculature, & so much of the info was stuff I've already seen plenty of. I would still recommend it, however. Particularly for any students studying anatomy & physiology.

I went to a cadaver class a few years ago. The woman had been a life long smoker. We were able to take her various organs out and look at the cancer spots that had spread throughout her body. Her main impetus in donating her body was to help others resist or quit smoking. If there's anyplace around your home that you can view something like this, it may further motivate you to keep fighting the fight. Of course, it's not a good idea if you're squeamish. As they unzipped the body bag, the fellow beside me thought he was going to be sick, so he turned and ran for the door. Trouble was, he passed out as he reached it, falling into the door knob and knocking out 8 teeth. So you may want to do the buddy system if you think you might not be able to handle it. My parents have been 'trying to quit' on & off for over 20 years. My mom can't even walk up a set of stairs without oxygen. I'm thinking jumping out of a plane with a tank of liquid O2 strapped to you won't be too easy..... Better to break the habit now than after another 5, 10 years of smoking. Good luck!!

Me again. I am not an attorney, but I have worked for 6 years as a rehab therapist in a nursing home (SNF). While I agree with Lawrocket that this is an emotional time, I again must urge you to not wait in pursuing this. Not for litigation purposes, but it is imperative that the details get brought to light. And unless you notify the health dept, noone is going to investigate this incident. **edited to add: the health department is the licensing authority** The only way to know 'for sure' whether or not anyone had been in to check on him is to get a copy of the nursing notes. Whoever is his Medical Power of Attorney has the right to see his complete chart. They have to give it to you; they may charge you for making copies. I am pretty familiar with Medicare guidelines, so if you'd like to PM me with details I can give you an idea of why Medicare would or would not pay for your uncle's stay. And I can assure you, that the mere mention of an attorney to the Executive Director of the nursing home will probably result in them backing off on trying to collect any money. I am stunned that they would even broach the subject if you have the correct details of your uncle's death. As for the state survey results; the SNF must have the surveys available to look at; however, all past deficiencies will have been addressed and corrected in order for the state to allow them to continue operating. The time to look at these surveys is prior to admission; there is also a website that you can access that will give you that info. If anyone is interested in it, I can get it for you. (Have to look it up at work today). I know it's difficult dealing with this from so far away.. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. If you'd like to PM me the name of the SNF, I can see what, if anything, I can find out about it. Good luck, Yvonne

Call the department of health. Call an attorney. Do Both immediately. Get a copy of your uncle's medical records- especially nursing notes-right away. I'm assuming the nursing home was in the states. He should have been checked on a minimum of every two hours, and if he had swallowing problems, he should have been referred to a speech therapist and not left alone in his room to eat. File a complaint and the health department will be crawling up the nursing home's ass. As well they should be. And the minute the home hears from an attorney, they will be back pedaling like hell. Please understand that even if your mom & uncle decide not to sue, they need to take steps to help insure this substandard quality of care stops for the other residents. Please let us know what transpires of this. I am so sorry for your family's loss, and so angry I can barely type.

Crap! How do you treat a burn on your face without leaving a scar?
sartre replied to mmytacism's topic in The Bonfire
I'm chiming in late too, but after reading every post, am surprised this statement wasn't addressed: I think it's important to let people know that treating with anything hot will only intensify the degree of the burn. The skin can continue to burn even if the source of the heat is removed, so cooling it off as soon as possible is really important. Just so ya know! -
At least the military is supplying our soldiers with some state of the art adaptive equipment. There's no way to thank you for the sacrifices you have made for the US. I hope that you hear on a daily basis that you're appreciated, regardless of one's political views. And by the way, your comment about the half empty/half full glass? It's both.
