  1. Are we really safer from it? With what's happening in Afghanistan and the Middle east, are we really safer? I think we're more the opposite of safe. But glad you think so. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  2. I stopped reading it about half way through - I didn't realise so many people all over the world have suffered almost instantaneous destruction of skin, flesh and muscle, through drinking coffee served at 180F. Poor old lady though. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  3. I reckon you'd hate an utopian society John. What on earth would happen to your guns!? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  4. Isn't this the lady who, upon burning herself on Ronald's coffee, sued them through the simple reason the coffee cup didn't say 'hot'? Still, I love cold coffee me, drink gallons of the stuff. Cold. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  5. That's a few questions you've asked I'm currently looking into - so far, I've discovered the lady in question was in fact a civilian working for the Royal Air Farce[sic].......... 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  6. Bump! I'd like more people to hear of this. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  7. Bloody hell. You either can't read or are leaning towards insanity. Try reading the posts again. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  8. Well, the debate is going back and forth. Not a single person seems to have mentioned how 'Westerners often forget this fact, non-Westerners never do.' 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  9. A question I think worth asking is where did the success stem from? What allowed the development of these ideas and values? A certain kind of freedom achieved through military superiority perhaps? A freedom achieved from the above, and therefore financial superiority? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  10. Really? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  11. Do people really believe giving up their SUV's will make any significant difference to global warming? Or is it perhaps an effort to be more conservative with dwindling fuel supplies? Or! Is it a means to try and generate extra votes from the increasingly fashionable green element of todays societies? And does anyone really give a f***?
  12. Well, what is your concept of the 'West' John? The Wild West? California? In my concept, Europe fits firmly into this bracket: (West). It should be quite apparant why I've singled the West out, as you are already aware. Why not contribute to the topic, rather than continually being deliberately obtuse. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  13. I get the impression, having now read a little about the man, his quote isn't so much implying the west being more evil and violent than everybody else, but more along the lines of: "In the emerging world of ethnic conflict and civilizational clash, Western belief in the universality of Western culture suffers three problems: it is false; it is immoral; and it is dangerous...Imperialism is the necessary logical consequence of universalism." 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  14. "I believe there will be a day when humans will be able to have all that is materialistic things they want. Unlimited energy, homes for everyone and everyone’s basic needs would be met. Then I think we can begin to get away from our animalistic ways and actually evolve to people who value spirituality." I'd love that - I think we all would. But why do I think we'll be too busy trying to accumulate wealth and power to such an extent, the spiritual element will be disregarded? That's the road we're on now - and I don't see many junctions or forks ahead..... 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  15. Should we even bother trying to set up a world for when China is the strongest nation on earth, as you suggested? Chances are, they'll only manipulate it to their way of liking, and naturally, against how 'we' might like it to be. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  16. A Samuel P. Huntington. You can read about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_P._Huntington Like yourself, I don't entirely agree with him either, but his statement did catch my thoughts. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  17. Therefore, to stop or reduce international violence, the strong should stop doing so. The weak will then be happy, and soon no longer weak, and we'll all enjoy equality? Or will the weak then become strong and project themselves onto the ex-strong? So in essence, we're carrying out pre-emptive strikes? "If we let you become strong like us, you'll only try and be stronger and do the same to us!" Nuts. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  18. What a rather thought provoking quote. Would non-western cultures have done the same to us had they the superiority? Does this make us the bad guys or good guys? Look at the many issues around the world today caused by the UK! Iraqi borders and the ethnic mix inside of them. The partition of India too. Pakistan. The natural division of the Pashtuns in Afghanistan this border created! Are we now trying to atone for our past errors by the reapplication of force? Does anyone know WTF is going on?
  19. Sorry mate, your wrong. I earlier alluded to old British foreign policy as playing a major part in why we're having such problems in Iraq and Afghanistan today, through our imperialistic meddeling. Here's a quote for you: "The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact, non-Westerners never do." - Samuel P. Huntington The 'Great' British empire??? So considering your little rant, I'm happy to descredit the damn thing. Again, I'm not relating my critiscism of underlying American cultural issues with a superior British culture. That would be insane. So get off your high horse and recognise the simple critiscism. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  20. Well, both our nations exist around wealth and power accumulation. And they're both morally and ethically corrupt to the core. “In our modern eagerness to be tolerant, we have come to tolerate things which no society can tolerate and remain healthy.” - Brian Cleeve. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  21. The most essential tool to be a successful politician these days. Probably second to being a compulsive liar. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  22. I sometimes feel that our top politicians are reflections of our societies and cultures. Could it be said having an unintelligent leader is a reflection of the society who voted for him? It seems these days western society isn't very orientated towards bringing up intelligent people. Consider how 'we' dote on sports figures, film stars, pop stars and what have you. Look at how adults expect intelligent kids to deal with tough life experiences because they are 'intellectually superior' yet they have neither the skills or life experience to do so. They go through a lot of tough times alone. We live in countries where the meaning of life is wealth and power accumulation. Intelligence stands for very little. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  23. Have a read of this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/columnists/columnists.html?in_article_id=478396&in_page_id=1772&in_author_id=464&in_check=N Essentially the link regards the compensation awarded to a British soldier blown up by a landmine whilst serving his country in Afghanistan. He lost both legs amongst many other serious injuries. Award; £152,150. Please also be aware an air force typist was recently awarded £484,000 for suffering repetitive strain injury on her thumb. I honestly can't put into words how I feel about this. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
