why do we need 'hope'? we've survived tens of thousands of years already and most likely tens of thousands of years more. not sure what the 'hope' buys any of us. Sure eevryone wants a better world when asked, but it most certainly does not come from fairy tales and 'hope'. Hope is not a management strategy that I am aware of.

Planned Parenthood and the term "slippery slope" .
tkhayes replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Do you trust auditors to do their jobs correctly? Do you think that somehow a bunch of rabid abortion seeking angry women bent on selling baby parts for profit can hide all that from skilled independent CPA++ Auditors? https://www.plannedparenthood.org/files/9813/9620/1188/FINAL_PPFA_FY13_audited_FS.pdf end of sarcasm. You are truly obtuse to how things really work. "There is a crime" (there is no evidence to support it through dozens of investigations) "Then there here is a conspiracy." (there is no evidence to support that either) "Then they must be spending the money anyway." (There are regular audits, also required by law, done by independent accounting agencies) "Well they MUST be doing something wrong for the simple fact that this is what I BELIEVE....." good luck with that, but most people are tired of listening to the ranting bullshit. And certainly not interested in seeing my tax dollars spent on it. If there was evidence, you would have found it by now. There is none found because there is none. get over it already -
What do all y'all bible thumpers think about this?
tkhayes replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
and you are welcome to have those beliefs but there are millions of fundamentalist Christians that believe you will burn in hell forever for those same beliefs because you are dead wrong of course. And the reality is that there is no evidence to support yours or theirs for that matter. -
If there were no religion, good people would do good things and evil people would do evil things. But it takes religion to get good people to do evil things. Richard Dawkins I think, but the reason that ISIS wants everyone dead is for religion. And the reason Christians have done the same thing tens of thousands of times over the past millenial is also for religion. None is better than the other - they all just have their moments. religion=peace, my ass.

All the special forces guys I ever worked with and met in skydiving said the Purple Heart was the only medal you got for fucking up. I know they were joking but...

I was not 'advocating this as a solution' so you do not need to debnk or refute anything.....I was refuting the claim that the gun control lobby ONLY focuses on the gun. that is patently false . As for the gun show 'loophole' - the loophole is not 'wther or not all laws apply' it is that the laws are flawed and easy to get around. People buys guns at guns show without background checks all the time. vast majority of Americans want an expanded background check, and enforcement of background checks for ALL gun sales, public, private, gun shows and so on. When i sell my gun provately to someone who then uses it to rob a store because there was no background check is in fact, me 'following the laws' but the law itself it obviously flawed if te criminal got the gun so easily. it is simply 'obtuse' to deny that there is no 'loophole'. If there is no loophole then who is manufacturing and supplying the guns to felons? jut one example. EVERYONE wants explanded background checks (pretty much) - why is it not happening in a supposed representative democracy?

bullshit, the gun control lobby talks about ALL the issues, not just the gun. where are you getting your information from exactly? Fox or the NRA or something like that? The gun IS part of the issue so we talk about that too. and we talk about a thousand other things as well. How about this....the gun lobby REFUSES to acknowledge that the gun is part of the problem and attempts to place the blame on EVERYTHING BUT the gun. that is just as valid. from a common sense gun law website: some of these are about the 'gun' most are not. Most are about the people and the ways that guns are obtained, handled and used. get over yourself.....really. so narrow mindedly focused on only one thing.....untilt hat changes and then you jump to the next thing.....which is it? Are you OK with 8 year olds shooting 11 year olds? Yes or no? now are you willing to do ANYTHING (and I mean anything) about that? probably not. so therefore your are in fact tacitly OK with 8 year olds shooting 11 year olds. You judge yourself by your intentions and your ideology. Others judge you by your actions and/or lack of actions. I am for some action. I am sick of the talk. something has to change. we CAN do better. we REFUSE to do anything.

Christies' investigation is still ongoing within his state and many of those actually doing the investigation are in fact, Republicans. Iran hearings? Which ones? Did any of them go on for 4 years? Did they cost millions and millions of dollars? Or did they do an investigation and then move on...?

the only thing that can stop a bad road-rager with a gun is a good road-rager with a gun. Remember that now.

wide brush? How many times have you said 'lib-tard' or something like that? pot....meet kettle. Nice to know you still only acknowledge you own point of view.

I doubt your military service has anything to do with the liklihood of you committing a crime. There are veterans in prison for all kinds of crimes, just like there are welders, electricians, doctors, waiters, taxi drivers in prison for committing all kinds of crimes. All your military service means is that you probably have better training on the use of those firearms. http://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=pbdetail&iid=808 old data but stil makes the point.

look forward to the source, no doubt from some right wing conservative tripe site.... And that is because, 1) your bias won't allow you to consider it may just be true, 2) most media sources are left leaning, and true fact reporting in biased news is a reare event anymore, 3) it was an inflammatory piece by a right leaning blog page. Which one did you discover it to be? so then you do acknowledge that it came from a right wing tripe site. thanks. I expect your bias won't allow you to consider it may just NOT be true. welcome to the club.

What are conservative anti gunners about? Because there are a bunch of them as well....

read my previous previous post again....if there REALLY was evidence, then there REALLY would be charges. there are not. nothing nada zip zero, zilch. nothing not a thing and nothing come out of it except your tax dollars being spent on slagging campaign efforts through investigative committees. but feel free to post your 'un-secluded' rock solid evidence of such massive wrongdoing I am waiting.

And I agree it only has to do with what people think, so you appear to be agreeing that there is nothing to this other than 'appearance' which is important if you are running for President and certainly everything the GOP is rubbing their hands excitedly about. NOTHING to do with technology, ignorance, lying, corruption, emails, servers or whatever. But at least your glory-boy-former-running-for-house-speaker already exposed it for what it really is.

The title of the thread indicates that she is technologically illiterate in some ways. but back to your point...no 'lies' have ever been established. The claim is/was that since she is technologically illiterate, she must therefore also be a liar. If she indeed lied, then the foaming-at-the-mouth republicans no doubt would be seeking federal charges....which they are not nor ever have been. And please do not say..."She's under investigation..." because everyone is under investigation every time someone asks them a question. You are under investigation by me, pretty much every day. I guess that then makes you corrupt, a liar and everything else negative that I can think of calling you. it holds no merit - just like the accusations in the thread. If there was teeth to anything that she is accused of, this would be a whole lot farther along in that 'investigation. more wah wah wah from the rigth wing, trying to make poop stick.

Perhaps because he is human and strives for a better world than yesterday? you are too much sometimes....I mean really.

"What do you suggest?" It's not up to either or any of us necessarily to suggest anything other than a goal or vision of improving the situation we have. people die in cars, we regulate cars, change them, make them better, fix defects in them and I did not come up with any of those ideas. People die from disease and we regulate medicine and improve the situation every day and I did not come up with any of those ideas. I get pretty tired of people nay-saying, attacking individuals, asking what they would do, then picking that apart, going from mass-shootings to gang shooting to individual shootings to mental illness and such. First you either ACCEPT that the gun violence in this country is a problem and then we decide collectively to try and improve it, or you DENY that gun violence is a problem in this country in which case, you are OK with the tens of thousands of people that die at the hands of guns every year. We are the greatest country in the world supposedly. So obviously we can improve the situation if we decided to. Do you or don't you want to try and improve the gun violence problem? (That by the way is a yes or no answer and nothing more) And no, I do not have the answers to guarantee 100% success, but I bet there are thousands of people out there with reasonable ideas that would improve the situation. Are you willing to move on your position at all? even 1 inch? If not, then why are you even here in the discussion? Your mind is already made up. I for one, think that there are reasonable things that can be done to improve the situation and vastly improve gun violence in this country. And no the tyrannical government will not come and take your guns away.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_school_shootings_in_the_United_States#2010s [sarcasm]Keep in mind though that absolutely NOTHING can be done to improve this in the greatest country on earth. absolutely nothing.[/sarcasm]

sorry if you think that collecting real data about things is not important. I mean that is after-all how we do medical research right? Just wing it, block the actual data and make policy decisions based on emotional inputs and the Constitution.....got it. [/extremesarcasm] and the efforts are in fact being blocked. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/storyline/wp/2015/01/14/why-the-cdc-still-isnt-researching-gun-violence-despite-the-ban-being-lifted-two-years-ago/ and 1000 other articles. If the evidence that you state continuously is that a gun filled society is better than a society with more gun restrictions, then the data that CDC, FBI and any other agency produces should support your beliefs structure and you should welcome that data. And we are not spending an arm and a leg on it. We spend more on the flu every year - which also kills people, but we have a pretty fricking good idea of what is coming down the pipe every year with the influenza virus. Would sure be nice if we had some gun data too. for starters, tracking guns by model/serial numbers, purchases and sales, stolen and lost, will help us learn how guns go from 'legal' to 'illegal' and allow some common sense rules that will close many loopholes. Unless of course you are OK with the regular flow of guns to criminals. A better universal background check and inclusion of ALL guns sales as well as the retention of that data, allows us to find out what demographic, what cultural, societal, what environmental and whatever other factors go into a decision that someone makes to buy a gun and better identifies problems. Unless of course you are Ok with criminals and mentally unstable people buying guns pretty much 'outside the system', in other words, having no problem getting the weapons that they want when they want. just a couple examples. there are plenty more. But to say that we are already collecting the data or that data collection is not needed is totally laughable. I mean we come up with all kinds of new cars, new phones, new airplanes, new ropads and bridges....all without any data collection at all. We make budgets and start wars without any data collection, we fly planes and buy food, we develop new products on the fly - with no data collection at all. I mean, every problem we ever solved was so intuitively obvious....that who needs data collection? Especially when 30000 people die every year from it, why would we ever need to collect anything? the solutions are so obvious. do nothing.
