One has to wonder if your family had illegals back when as well... If you are all for the children staying, but not the parents, I assume then you will be lining up for adoption? Such oversimplification of complex problems
-
except that their children are US citizens quite often. Are you all for deporting Americans? Are you so hatred of immigrants that you would even deport people born in the country with citizen rights under the US Constitution? How very right wing of you.... You and Glenn Beck, Trump and Limbaugh have a lot in common. Like...being dead wrong.
-
the richer are getting richer and at a faster pace. So much for trickle down right-wing economics. [sarcasm] Solution? Blame the poor and tell them to get off their lazy asses and get rich [/sarcasm] Are are you advocating that the government do something 'socialistic' to stop the gap from growing any further?

Oh oh. Hillary Campaign has more problems coming?
tkhayes replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
My $100 says not a single criminal charge ever comes out of any of these agencies regarding anything to do with the Clintons. Not ever. So if you are so correct, cough up your hundred dollar handshake and we will see -

so does republican redistricting to make sure that minority candidates still get elected. But you show no outrage over that. So does starting wars for profit. but you show no outrage over that. and so on and so on and so on and you are so predictable with you selective view of the world. -

OMIGOD!!! Another scandal. impeach the president....jail everyone! wow you are really reaching. people asking people to register to vote. especially is they are not republicans....I mean how 'communist and unpatriotic' can you get? -
Yes, and we continually change things to improve on those 'killer' things. I would be happy if we continually changed gun laws to attempt to accomplish the same admirable goals.
-
rubbish. they get compared when we talk about economic policy, political policy, military, construction techniques, medical advancements, education, food, agriculture, science, social and cultural issues, etc etc. pure denial.
-
And it can still be improved upon easily with little/no infringement on your 'rights' Go america.....like I said, NOTHING will ever be done because of attitudes like that. small numbers, who cares. no perfect solution so we do nothing. cannot be improved so why bother trying. etc etc. We put a fucking man on the moon and cured many diseases, built the wealthiest nation on earth with the most powerful military. Our accomplishments are vast, yet they still continue to 'deny'.
-
read my reply above - such narrow-mindedness from you. really. surely you can do better. let's nitpick every word, every detail, every nuance. Let's do NOTHING. let's continue to claim that we can do NOTHING. Let's NEVER improve on anything....I mean, it is the American way, but only when it comes to guns. How many products do you use EVERY SINGLE DAY in your life, that you only use because they are safer than they ever were before?
-
nobody suggested 'banning guns' and no one suggested a self-activating gun either, except you. pretty narrow minded once again from the gun lobby that NOTHING can be done, NOTHING can be improved, therefore we will do NOTHING to change anything.... my example was pretty simple - in so many other facets of our lives interacting with the machinery we use on a daily basis, we do in fact regulate, change, improve, recall, train, etc etc etc and the results are demonstratively positive with a reduction in lives lost. Same can be done with guns.
-
already being addressed it would seem. If we could only do that for guns....recall them, force manufacturers to improve them, make them safer to use.... http://www.toyotaproblems.com/recalls/Camry/

I would not assume that the controller made any mistakes. The used to be an airport called Bethpage owned by Grumman and you can look it up. Google Earth now shows the area and large industrial buildings and complex and yes, no runways. I doubt the controller, if he had personal knowledge of the prior airport, would direct a pilot to a place that he knows has no runways anymore. And if he did not have personal knowledges that the airport did or did not exist, then that means he got the information about Bethpage from somewhere else. So that likely means that the ATC databases and information is or was out of date. And I am sure that ATC probably has lists of closed and non-existent airports just for the very reason of giving pilots in emergencies more options. too bad that was probably wrong in this case. Sounds like the pilot landed on the tracks next to the 'former airport and got killed. There wasa golf course 1 mile to the east, too bad he never went for that.

Planned Parenthood and the term "slippery slope" .
tkhayes replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
it has already been established that 'nothing' is happening except that you are sickened by it. there is NOTHING happening that is illegal, against the law, not upheld by any court, out of the ordinary for medical science or research and nothing that has not happened for decades, perhaps centuries. Or for that matter, sickening. only to you NOTHING is happening, therefor we are not actually obligated to make ANY case. you are the accuser...go head and make your case...ad nauseum, again and again and again, which is called rhetoric. we get it - you are sickened. i am sickened by people like you - does that make my case to have you outlawed? -
We have not done it yet, but considering it. that goes for just about anything. i.e. All my tandems were good, except the ones that weren't. but I still continued to do tandems.....

I never claimed it was a reporting system, I claimed that not much gets by in the sport that does not end up 'out there'. so to think that somehow we are not going to hear about 'incidents' involving student handcams is a bit of a stretch. that would have to be some conspiracy. That may be, but it is no reason to NOT allow students to use handcams in the meantime. You are simply saying we need to create a bureaucracy where no one exists today before we can move ahead in the sport. We already have reporting systems in place for a lot of things. Most things get reported, some do not. Using that logic then, we should stop all skydiving until the mandatory reporting system is fully implemented.

Actually it DOES give someone the right to kill it and then recover the tissues for research. It absolutely does and it is legal and it is upheld by the Supreme Court -

your opinion and your feelings. i cannot believe that you cannot see that other people have other opinions and maybe these are not 'babies'. Some of us believe that the women's rights trump the rights of anything growing inside the woman and that medical research is in fact important....even to you. spare me the 'But they're BABIES!!" -
the automatic assumption that 'changing a standard' means negative impact is patently incorrect. You can lower a standard, develop new training methods and still maintain a good output. business, manufacturing, and the military do it all the time. i.e. scale down the military by 25% in the USA....we still have the most dominant military in the world and does not mean that we are suddenly failing nor vulnerable. making the assumption that the only standard to be a Ranger is the 'designed-by-men-for-men-only' standard is equally flawed. As flawed as the 'gay issue' still is and was for so long. the world needs to grow up. I cannot believe we treat women with such disdain in the world today in so many fields. wages, social status, sex, rape, their own reproductive systems.....we have such a long way to go.

false. dropzone.com, facebook, youtube, vimeo, liveleak, are filled with them. you keep repeating this mantra. There are hundreds, if not thousands of near miss accounts for skydiving alone all over the internet, ESPECIALLY with the advent of small cameras. not at all. I deliver a product that the customer wants and make money from it. it is the very essence of business. not sure who thought the y-mod was a 'yawn' moment or what you mean by that. It would be a yawn moment if 'nothing happened' due to Y mods being put in. but things did happen. they stopped people falling out of harnesses. A good example of a yawn moment would be the change from student ripcords to BOC throw-outs. everyone talked about death and destruction then as well. But so many other countries had been doing i for years. For some reasons, 'USA students' were special and were going to die. no one died - certainly no more than did on S/L, hence...yawn.
-
all these arguments have been made in previous posts and equally dispersed in previous posts. the assumption that a 'distraction' equates to a negative impact on anything is simply flawed. the skydive itself is a distraction. especially if they have never done one before. they have no idea what to expect nor do you have any idea of what they are going to do. most people do what they are told to do. and that applies to a small handcam on their wrist as well. tel them what to do and help them with it. We seem to manage to teach tandem students tracking, turns, ripcord pulls, altimeter readings etc, and do it on a 15 minute call with a high success rate and no 'distractions' worthy of mention. And I could give a shit about the product that it ends up being, mostly because the customer does not give a shit about the product they are getting. 99% of selfie videos these days are simply that 10 seconds of 'lookatme lookatme' and it is over. it gets watched 3 times by family and friends and then it gets shelved. which is probably the same thing that happens with the fully edited production high quality edited tandem video. But it might put another $25 in the pocket of my tandem instructor, and provide the customer with an above-average customer experience. Full edited options are still available. bottom line? Student are already jumping handcams in many places. is there a risk? yes. is that risk coming to fruition in the way of tragic accidents and near-misses? Apparently not. I see the advent of student handcams as one of the biggest 'yawn' moments in tandem skydiving.

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/rec.skydiving/tandem$20AAD/rec.skydiving/Wad9nsDcas4/pDPPBe_Jh6kJ I remember the threads many years ago from tandem instructors that said they would NEVER do another tandem jump if AADs were made mandatory. No, never, not ever. dangerous, and all these 'what-if' scenarios. Same for RSLs seemingly we got over that. Hopefully we get over the idea of a camera the size of an altimeter, mounted like an altimeter, where an altimeter would normally be, as something other than a 'safety hazard'.
