  1. actually - he participated in the 'shooting of the trailer' from the beginning, right to the very end, including the burning of it, the moving of it to the other huge pile of firewood , the second burning of it and then the final burial of it..... and he might have been drinking too. But that's not really what the thread is about now is it?
  2. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=47 worth its weight in gold.
  3. AP - A man in Florida, rumored to be a DZO by the name of 'TK' who owns many guns, had NOTHING happen. Ever. Despite his lifetime of 'normality' the man was quoted as saying "I never needed a gun to defend myself. Somehow, I always managed to avoid the situations where one might be needed" It was reported that the guns may be locked safely away when not in use and that the man had received extensive firearms training throughout his lifetime. we are watching the situation to see if anything changes.

  5. So this Newfie goes into the hardware and buys a new chainsaw for firewood. He heard the chainsaw could cut TWO full cords of wood every day, and that's what the salesman said as well. So the next day, Newfie comes back to the store with the chainsaw. "There must be something wrong with this - I worked all day yesterday and only got a half a cord of wood" Salesman says "Well, they do take a bit of getting used to, give it a couple days to figure out how to use it, I am sure your cutting technique will get better with practice." So the Newfie leaves Two days later, the Newfie returns again with the saw. "Man, I have been busting my ass for two days. The very best I could get was barely a cord of wood." The salesman is perplexed. "Maybe there is something wrong with it. Let's see if it is running OK" So the salesman puts the chainsaw down, primes it, pulls the cord and "VROOM VROOM!" it fires up. The Newfie jumps about 3 feet in the air and yells "JESUS CHRIST - What's that noise!!"
  6. I believe, therefore I am. or I believe, therefore it is. Both views are crap.

  8. lots of DVD Rippers at download.com, some free, some not,
  9. OK I believe that some of the world and perhaps a radical element of the world "Hates" America...... certainly a 'hate' that we promote as a REASON for the military that we have, yet still the rest of the argument remains that the military is at LEAST part of the cause of whatever 'hate' there is out there. Now are you going to argue with me that there is NOT 'hatred' for America out there? And then are you going to argue with me that we do not in any way combat that hatred by spending fortunes on a military to fight said 'hate'? George Bush never said anything about terrorists who 'hate' us? Is that the incorrect premise that I am basing all this on? wow, how could I be so wrong..... no wonder we cannot have a rational discussion. Afterall - there is no 'hate' for America out there.....
  10. where's the crowds of republicans signing up for Afghan.?
  11. OK, I will spell it out I believe that the world 'hates' America, not because of our 'freedom' as some would like you to believe, but because we are an invasive, domineering, imperialistic nation. That is demonstrated by us having 700+ military bases in 130+ countries around the world Norway, for example, does not have such a structure. We endure many attacks against the USA, for many reasons, but one of the reasons certainly is that military presence. If Russia opened a military base in Alabama (or Cuba), We would certainly think that they were up to no good and it would probably fuel many hostilities again them for doing so. So we build a larger military because we are under (perceived) attack by terrorists and we expand those military operations and installations. (The self fulfilling prophecy part) or Catch-22 if you want to call it that. So yes, I am making a point, and yes, many will disagree with it. Closing all the military bases around the world would EVENTUALLY remove that 'hate' for America, not that our foreign policy in general could use some work, but yes, I believe that it is a large part of why radicals around the world rally against the USA. Reducing the need for the military, reduces the 'hate', which reduces the need for all the homeland security (i.e. we leave them alone and whaddya know - they leave us alone). This is what I believe. Norway does not have military bases all over the world and they do not have the problems that we have. The military industrial complex is sometimes its own worst enemy. Xe would hate to see things change because they make billions from it. The military would hate to see things change, because that's what the military does best; be a military. If you go to the military for a solution, you will most likely get a military solution. Just like when you go to a surgeon, you will get a surgical option, - but you might only need a physical therapist.
  12. maybe if we didn't have 700+ military bases in 130+ countries, we might not NEED the department of homeland security. (or at lest the mammoth size of one that we have) Our military size has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. but of course, you and others will probably disagree. Certainly Xe would disagree.
  13. the Smeaton's in my home town had 23 kids. The Parrott's had 17 or 18 The Russell's had 13 I think. Who gives a shit
  14. and what is the common thread? Maine still has PRIVATE insurance, single payer - the only way to provide it for everyone at a reasonable cost. Too bad the plan the govt is proposing is the same crap and will not work, it will just force MORE private insurance.
  15. I consider health care to be a basic human right and a need. I do not consider homeland security to be a basic human right nor a 'need' - at least to the extent for which each is delivered. not flip-flopping at all. since the two are unrelated. Some things actually DO NEED to be government run and some things should not be. we just disagree on what those things are.
  16. too big to fail maybe? The concept of trying to put all agencies under one roof is valid, but the result is aan agency that is so huge with so many facets to it that it cannot function and gets mired in bureaucracy. Maybe we should try looking at why we need the agency first to see if we can reduce the need for it, rather than try to 'flog that dead horse' to make it work..... oops- damn liberals thinking logically again.....
  17. I love cats, but I couldn't eat a whole one.
  18. and then you have to deal with the bulbs. I upgraded to the Sylvania 'blue-whatever' super fucking white/bright bulbs for $40 each, and they burned out within a few months. Helluva a lot brighter, but fucking worthless. back to the regular halogens..... At least i can reach them on my car without dismantling it.....
  19. hot goes on the left - cold goes on the right - poop will not run uphill..... oh wait - that's plumbing!
  20. If a giraffe could jump as far as a grasshopper, relative to his body size - he'd avoid a lot of trouble.....
  21. 2 trillion 8 trillion, whatever. we spent a trillion already on wars, we'll spend a trillion more. I value health care over the need for a military the size of ours.... Health care is 16-25% of GDP regardless of who is paying for it. At least I acknowledge that its costs money and we should all pay for it. and yes, I actually do realize that the plan in front of us in NOT single payer. That does not actually change the fact that i am for single payer, an advocate of single payer, write letters weekly to those I need to to advocate single payer.....
  22. you already know the answer to that - I do nto advocate PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE. I advocate single payer health care. To provide health insurance (which we already provide as a subsidy) would put the dropzone out of business by driving the cost of our services through the roof. The same reason tens of thousands of companies across the USA would 'like' to provide health INSURANCE but cannot. So to 'not be the hypocrite' that you are trying to make me out to be, I would actually have to play by your rules and fully fund private health INSURANCE for my staff - which I fundamentally disagree with. So for now, I will offer a subsidy of health insurance to my staff - they will gracefully turn it down because they cannot afford it either. I will advocate for single payer health CARE (not INSURANCE) for everyone, including my staff AND even for you too my friend. But of course you already know all this. I thought a lot of you over the years in all the discussions that we have had. I never ONCE thought you were that stupid. Are you trying to change my mind on that? Oh yes, still waiting on your arguments against Single Payer instead of personal attacks towards me......
  23. remind me again why that matters? Besides I have stated it many times. The thread is about Government run healthcare - not private health insurance..... Nice try, you should be a politician, - duck and avoid, then change the subject. Oh yes, don't forget the 'personal attack' in their too But it's OK, if you do not have any REAL reasons not to have single payer health care, it is still your right to rant......
  24. certainly not, but if we cut their budget by 15% we could afford alot of the things that we are talking about. And I doubt the military would make a good model for single payer health care anyway - don't you think? But I DO think that Medicare is run pretty well, certainly a model that we could use..... Actually, overall they are not run badly - but my point was not how well they are run, but how we all PAY for it and we all BENEFIT from it. Again, cut the military budget by another 5% and we could afford city to city trains that run very efficiently, reduce cars on the road and the need for roads, provide hundreds of thousands of construction jobs and tens of thousands of operation jobs. Oh but wait - we would have to sub all that out to China since we have reduced our manufacturing base to pretty much nothing..... I was not addressing private universities. The public school system does a pretty good job overall. Yes they could do better. Oh wait, take another 5% out of the military budget and we could afford a complete upgrade of the public school system too! Wow, I'm starting to like this..... http://www.kff.org/kaiserpolls/upload/7891.pdf (page 10) regardless of what you say, very few people do not like Medicare or want it scrapped. It is VERY popular and the majority of Americans are favoring its EXPANSION, not its retraction.... Single payer health care. Everyone pays through income tax, corporations pay through income tax, taxes on unhealthy behaviors go up (cigarettes i.e.), Medicare gets expanded to include ALL Americans, everyone pays, everyone gets. Even the homeless buy things and therefore pay some taxes..... Maybe if we helped them 'get better', at least some of them might return to work and start paying their share even moreso. but of course they are homeless because they CHOOSE to be homeless - lazy good-for-nothings. How DARE they ask society for anything to help get back on their feet......
  25. It is equally clear that a lot of us actually do realize that it costs money and we are willing to pay for it for everyone... Everyone pays, everyone gets. just like the military, roads, schools, medicare, whatever. here we go again.....
