Wow! Maybe I need to get out more; I don't recall a server ever being that blatant about it to me. Yeah, that would be rude. I've never waited tables, but I did deliver pizzas for a while, and I would never directly ask to keep the change. 'Course, the repeat customers who were known to be good tippers always got their pizza delivered first, and the known non-tippers were last on the list. Matt

My beer poll! So I went into Chipotle's the other day for a burrito. At the cash register they've got a bowl for tips. I wonder what, exactly, would I be tipping for? In this place I find my own table and carry the order there. I get my own drink from the soda fountain. Nobody comes by to ask how the food is or offer to refill my drink. When I'm done, I bus the table. Don't get me wrong, I like the burrito; it just doesn't seem right to me that they're asking for tips in a fast food joint without a nice restaraunt's traditional services. And I've seen these tip bowls appearing in other surprising places too. So what do you think? Am I a stingy SOB? Or am I thinking rightly here? Matt

My first impressions of people are almost always incorrect. I've learned to usually not even attempt to guess what a person's motivations or plans are at any given moment because I always get it wrong. People are such a mystery. On the other hand, intuitively skipping a step or two when troubleshooting some malfunctioning machine is always fun, and I'm usually right.

Very very glad things worked out ok. Grew up with an autistic little brother and mentally retarded older brother, so I know how much fun that can be when things are going wrong and he's panicking, and there's absolutley no guessing what his next move will be. Situations like this are one of the many reasons that I always carry a decent knife. Useful in so many thousands of ways.

Attempting to land a Cessna 172 in severe turbulence; winds gusting from 15 to 50 knots and randomly changing directions up to about 135 degrees. Eventually landed safely, but I wouldn't recommend trying it. Matt
