  1. I did a horrible job of logging my jumps before I got my Neptune. I think that was jump number 133 but I don't remember for sure, so I only added the ones I had logged in my book to my Neptune numbers, it's probably 850ish but I can't prove that. We used to do a bunch of jumps into backyards for fun and they didn't all get logged. I can't post my real numbers because I don't know for sure, so why not have fun with it . If you don't think a 100 jumps make a difference check out Tuna's thread about his first time jumping a camera with 97 jumps, add another 100 and he wouldn't have been thrashed near as bad. It's been fun giving you a hard time, but according to the contract we're supposed to "act" professionally, I'll just start earlier than necessary. 243-1 was at Rantoul '05. 2. : ................................................................... Old school camera helmets had a lot of snag points. Sometimes these snag points snagged deploying mains and created malfunctions (eg. Robin Sutherland), making it more difficult to cutaway. Ergo, old-school cameramen wanted to be able to release their (malfunctioning) mains, remove their helmets, THEN deploy their reserves. I saw a picture of an entanglement posted on here somewhere. The ring site looked like it was several inches away from where the guys face would be, and there was about a foot of extra rod sticking up above the ringsite mount. My friend Stan knew a guy that wanted to take stills so he mounted a polaroid camera on his helmet, and built a tray on the front to catch the pictures, this was a long time ago. People do crazy stuff. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
  3. I don't have 420 jumps either, but you seem to be okay with me having a D license without enough jumps. They changed the requirements to 500 just after I started. If you can figure out I'm goofing around don't you think others can too? Did you ever get your canoe fixed? If not here's a great fiberglassing website to help you out http://fiberglassforums.com/index.php They're not just automotive, they have a big general item fabrication section with how to's. 4. There was a Nick that I went on a tracking dive with in Goshen Indiana a couple years ago. I don't have a picture of him or the video from that jump but I think this is/was his girlfriend. I think her name was Vicki, I do remember that she works at Parachutist, the USPA magazine. Do you know if it's possibly the same guy? I thought he said he worked with PD, he had one of those fancy jumpsuits (Go Fast if I remember correctly) They were on a family trip and happened to stop by on the way home. 5. Welcome to the club buddy! It's a darn shame you can't change your registration date to match the number of years in sport. Oh yeah, that reminds me I'll need to update that soon too. 6. By the way, that *might* is there because some "experienced" jumpers who regard parachutes merely as something to get down to earth alive and who barely know how to flare should probably stay on Manta's - even though they "meet the requirements" for a stiletto. You must be referring to the people that just blindly spiral down as quickly as possible to get on the next load. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 7. 100,000 jumps in 99 years huh? I guess next time I'll pick 35007 for my jump numbers, it'll make it easier for people to know I'm goofing off. Bob Sinclair has been jumping for 63 years now. He says people don't believe he only has around 3,000 jumps. Of course 2,000 of them are on rounds. He's still awfully proud of his rip cord too . Now back to something fun, stalking. 8. I hear admitting it, is the first step. Nope. denial is the first step... ask Clinton ! Will you please, quit following me around. Since you asked nicely .... I may ! A good stalker wouldn't give up so easy. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
  9. I'm glad I could make your day John, happy to do it . Since you didn't think boob (8008) was funny I put it back to 420, I shouldn't have to explain that number. I'm glad you pointed out my typo in my D number, that was an accident. I tried giving you my real jump numbers but you blocked my PM's . You're not supposed to make personal attacks on here, especially in the incidents forum, they take that area pretty serious. I think it's funny that some of these people take life so seriously, that someones profile info can make them so mad. Maybe people should take up some more hobbies. Skydiving is supposed to be fun. If you want to fight with people take up wrestling or watch Jerry Springer . "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 10. I know you Terry, well sort of, we met at one of the S&TA meetings in Lima a couple years ago. I'd probably follow your advice. And I know you've met one of the most unqualified instructors/riggers there is, he was there too. I'm glad I found out he was bad news before it was too late, so I agree totally with your post. 11. In over a decade and 1500 parachute landings I don't think I've ever experienced or seen an "unexpected gust" I have seen lots of people reach in the wrong direction (perhaps after starting to run) and claim there was a gust after they stumbled. If the winds are so unstable they're going to blow you over you shouldn't be jumping. If you go out in the landing area and video landings all day, you'll end up with hours of video of sudden gusts. It's really funny when the gusts are 180 degrees from each other. It's rare but you do occasionally get left handed people that reach with their left leg/hand. I guess it's like snowboarding where some people do right foot first and some do left. I wanted to vote for all of them, by what you originally considered a good landing. 12. I would have bought a complete used rig instead of piecing mine together. The way I did it makes for a good story, but it cost me about $1,000 more than I've seen rigs for sale on dz.com for. From your post in the introductions forum, it sounds like money may be an issue. I know when I was in college I wouldn't have been able to afford jumping enough to stay current in the AFF type programs. If you can find a dz that does static line or IAD in your area you could make 3 jumps for the price of 1 AFF. From what I hear AFF jumps are around $300 each, SL/IAD jumps run $75 to $100. 13. I want to party with that guy! Does everyone know he's an idiot? Nope, his tandem students think he's great! They have such a huge frame of reference too . He's great for providing hours of stories. His wife finally did a static line jump, and he was running radio. She started to flare at 30 feet, he told her, "you flared too high", she let the toggles back up. She broke her ankle. It was funny because she's always going to the hospital to jacked up on drugs for no reason so we didn't believe she was really hurt. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 14. Yup! It's especially funny when the topic is so specific like a particular canopy vs another canopy so you wouldn't think to search and someone pipes up saying didn't you know someone posted that topic back in 2003!!! Like you're the idiot And surely the manufacturers never make line trim changes or other updates to fix issues that people find after it's been out in the public for a while. Isn't there like 8 different versions of the Jedei now? "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.
  15. It's the power they're after, and access to the recycle bin . I remember reading way back when, that the mods secretly observe pm's too, but they deny that. 16. I cant make it to the dz hardly at all right now, however thinking about jumping consumes a lot of my day. I am setting goals and saving money towards being an active jumper again and when I have a question, I really don't have a big group of people to consult other than here. Sure I have some good friends that I can ask, but not everyone knows everything and sometimes its good to get a wide variety of opinions from several people. However that is nearly impossible to do here.... I've also spent a bunch of time searching threads that don't have any answers, it's great way to kill time if that's what you're after. One thing I've never heard anybody bring up is that some of the people you don't want to take advice from on here, are probably at an actual dz, and will tell you the same thing there that they would here, whether it's right or wrong. One of my early instructors was just horrible, if he didn't know something he would make it up as he went. I didn't know that at the time though. He taught me that if you want to turn at 50 feet you just use your rear risers, because you don't lose as much altitude. We've seen him on a coach jump spinning out of control by himself 200 feet above a student, when he landed he was somehow able to tell the student a dozen things he did wrong. We knew he never even saw the student on the jump. This is the same guy that packed my first two cutaways, and 3 other lineovers, one of which was after he got his riggers ticket. Just because you meet them in person doesn't mean they're good, just like a lot of posts on here doesn't mean they're good either. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 17. 12-3am late night nap 5am-8am = early morning prep nap 10am-12 = late morning nap 3pm-5pm = late afternoon nap 7pm-9pm = early evening nap I'm doing the insomnia thing right now... And here I thought you old people got up at 3AM because you go to bed at 5pm . "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. 23. +1, That's one thing I like about doing video, at boogies you can just wander up to a group and they'll usually let you jump with them. It's a great way to meet lots of people, even though I don't know most of the people that I've jumped with names'. At my home 182 dz if you say you want to do a solo, they probably won't let you, unless you have a good reason. They would much rather jump with you, no matter what kind of flying you want to do. I feel sorry for the turbine newbies that feel they have to jump by themselves because they aren't good enough to go with the "good" groups. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane.
