i don't recall the status for who I fly anymore, but for american it's exec plat since that's who i fly the most, and the rest, it's like first or second level, except on NWA b/c they suck ass and I won't fly them. I also don't fly on United, for no other reason than AA gets me there too and that's where my miles are. Hotels, same thing... hilton brands are where I stay since i can double dip and get hotel points and AA miles. i used to get all jazzed about status and proudly display my status cards on my baggage and all that... now, it's just so shallow. don't get me wrong, i enjoy the perks, but big whoop for being platinum this and gold that... too many people where it like a freaking badge of honor, like they've been to battle or something. some of you hit it on the head... i'd rather be home earning status w/ the wife and kids. thankfully, i don't travel nearly as much as i used to. it used to be 80-90% when i first started doing drug research. now it's more like 50%, which is far better for family life. and the miles and upgrades and priority boarding ARE nice perks, I gotta say.
