I live in Westchester county, New York (a little north of NYC). You'd go to jail here if you did that. There was an incident here recently where a Navy guy was at home visiting his mom. His mom had just won a large amount of money through a local pool at her pub. A well known thief/junkie broke into her house to steal it. The Navy guy shot him dead _IN_ the house. The NYC DA wanted to prosecute the _NAVY_ guy. OMG, don't even get me started about Westchester Co. NY... I've had trouble there myself over carry issues there... they're real big on ignoring federal interstate firearm transport law which trumps their stupid little county gun law and have arrested several people who were legally transporting locked and unloaded firearms through the county. There's a lawsuit right now against them for this illegal activity. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...

Yes you could have, but then you would have had to live with the knowledge that you murdered two people in cold blood. Although on second thoughts, why not shoot them.
