If you'll pardon my recall of modern physics 101, I believe the speed of light limit only applies to objects with mass. Quantum states are massless. In fact, they are pretty much "anythingless" so I'm not sure that the speed limit applies. - Dan G

It may have been impossible to do that if they didn't know where he was being hidden. It took us ten years to find bin Laden. Any we never found some POWs from Vietnam. I also take issue with labeling anyone we don't like as terrorists. As far as the Taliban are concerned, I don't see them as terrorists. They are the remnants of an ousted government. They certainly aligned themselves with terrorists (AQ, Haqqani, Hamas) but the Taliban organization was a national government that we removed from power. Just read the bios provided above for the five men we traded. They were high government officials of another nation, not unaligned individual actors. As far as I'm concerned, an American soldier in enemy hands should be rescued regardless of how he got there. If it is found that he deserted his post, then he should be subject to a court martial. - Dan G

I honestly don't know. It could be as simple as wanting to clean up loose ends before the withdrawal. Or, the opportunity could have presented itself, and he moved on it. Having the Qataris act as intermediaries may have set up the conditions for a trade that weren't possible before. - Dan G
