Agree 100%, but since it is highly unlikely the government will get out of the marriage business entirely, the next best thing is to let anyone marry anyone else (consenting adults only). - Dan G

If you read a lot of the responses here, you'll find the list is a lot longer than you think. A person's gender should not be a factor in how they are treated under the law. I think the vast majority of people would agree with that statement. That's a rather obvious statement. Just because we've had laws on the books in the past, doesn't make those laws fair or just. The law is constantly evolving. - Dan G

I think singing has as much do to with voting as the shape of your partner's genitals has to do with the tax code. - Dan G
-
It's called an analogy. The point of the analogy is to show that equal treatment is not the same as fair. If I were required to sing Ave Maria at perfect pitch in order to vote, I would never get to vote. I would consider that unfair. An opera singer (you, analogously) would argue that since you have to pass the exact same test, we are both being treated equally. That argument is just as valid as your equal treatment argument about restrictive marriage benefits. - Dan G

Your argument that since everyone has the right to marry someone of the opposite sex, everyone is being treated equally is technically true. It is also not on point. If the government passed a law that said everyone must sing a perfect pitch version of Ave Maria in order to vote, would you argue that the law was just and fair, since everyone is being treated equally? If you did, you argument might be technically correct, but again not on point. Your perception of what constitutes equal treatment is not determinative of fairness. - Dan G

I don't think you're allowed to use the terms "Ron Paul" and "sanity" in the same post without at least one smiley to show you're not serious. - Dan G

I'll take William Shatner circa 1970 or Kirstie Alley circa 1985 as a compliment. Anything else and I'll spend the rest of this thread bitching about PAs. - Dan G

Because people won't spend that money to create jobs, because they know the money won't be there next year. You yourself said you are holding back creating two new jobs because of uncertainties in your future tax burden. The changes need to be comprehensive, and people need to believe they will be long lasting and predictable. - Dan G

If you're going to try to be witty, your comment has to at least make some sense. It's like you're telling the punchline to the wrong joke. - Dan G

So you think Obama should not have killed bin Laden? - Dan G

Shit! They changed the order of the number line?!? I did miss that on the news. - Dan G

I don't know where you got you number, but last time I checked, 200,000,000,000 > 0. - Dan G

Sure, as long as anyone who works for the government, or a company that takes government contracts, abides by the same rules. I doubt you'd support that. - Dan G

Actually, one side says no tax hikes, and the other side says both tax hikes and spending cuts are required. Can you identify which side is which? - Dan G

What he said. Oh, I mean "+1" To make this post slightly less useless: I don't have a problem with race being a criterion, I have a problem with race being the only criterion. I'd prefer my security be effective, not be focused on making people feel racially superior. - Dan G

The Israelis profile by looking at patterns of behavior, not just skin color. That type of profiing is completely legal, and actually effective. Searching only brown people is not only illegal, but highly inefffective as well. - Dan G

I haven't come across any whuffos selling gear, but I have sold gear to whuffos. Elementary schools love old parachutes, especially colorful ones. They use them for games at recess. People also buy old canopies for use at shades and car covers. I also sold my first container to some guys putting on a play that included a scene at a DZ. Canopies often go for about $50 on eBay. I got $150 for my container. - Dan G
-
Exactly. Most, if not all, first jump students should know that this canopy is not safe to land. If it was as bad as the OP said, I doubt most experienced jumpers would think it was safe to land either. I was taught four questions: Is it there? Is it square? Can I steer it? Can I land it? The last two are answered by doing a full control check (right turn and left turn answers the first question, a flare answers the last). - Dan G

Nuclear disaster unfolding in the USA right now...?

I know, right? And you know what else, guess how many articles there are about Obama selling Texas to the Pakistanis in return for them hiding bin Laden? NONE!!! - Dan G -
Not bad, of course that was 30 years ago, and was a case of a serial killer, not a run of the mill dead kid. Now name a victim, without Googling, please. - Dan G
