His overall conception of a smaller government is great. The specific plans he has to get there are completely unrealistic. His ramblings about the gold standard make me think he's off his rocker. It's inevitable. Smart countres willl adapt. Dumb ones will fight it and lose. Let's be smart. How else do you propose to manage our nation's money supply? The gold standard will lead to stagnation. Fractional reserve banking is how the world works today. No. What does that mean? If I put a pot on the stove, does the water boil faster if I put a lid on? It does?!? How can that be? I'd love to see other parties emerge. Unfortunately, the only ones out there are single issue parties (Green party) or incapable of seeing the trees for the forest (Libertarian). - Dan G

This is offensive on many levels. It implies that minorities should not be entrusted with the vote. I'm not sure how you feel about that, but I think the idea is disgusting. It also implies that young people can't be informed enough to vote. Bullshit. I'd wager that young people are just as informed as older people, in many case much more so. People like to say that the youth are the future, but those same people don't actually want the youth to have anything to do with the future. Furthermore, the same people bemoaning the ignorance of America's youth generally want to cut education funding. Talk about ignorance. Finally, Obama is not a socialist. Get a new mantra. - Dan G

Regarding the numbers quoted from Professor Joseph Olson, 19+29 does not equal 50. I'm pretty sure all fifty states (and DC) were won by either Obama or McCain. In point of fact, Obama won 28 states (and the district), McCain won 22. If your Professor won't cite the number of states won correctly, why should I believe any of his other statistics? - Dan G

Mike Mullins was tried for killing his wife. He was found not guilty. Roger Nelson went to jail for drug trafficking. He was the founder of Skydive Chicago. See folks, it's not that hard. - Dan G -

I guess I thought that phrase was universal. It's shorthand for the bowling speech you give new jumpers who just aren't getting it. Other Sports Beckon - Dan G

Absolutely. You should only get involved with deals like this if the other party is royalty. - Dan G -

Vanity plates should be denied unless they are clever. My favorite: Virginia has a specialty plate for bowlers with a little picture of a bowling ball and pins. My wife came up with the idea to register "OSB" on the bowling plate. It was awesome. BTW: - Dan G

I think you're getting wrapped around the word "fear". I don't own a gun only because my wife doesn't like guns. I respect her opinion. We have two big dogs, so people are not likely to view our house as an easy target. On the other hand, the only reason I would want a gun (besides the fact that shooting is fun) is because not having one could make a bad situation worse. To me, the thought that bad things could happen in a given scenario is the same as fearing the bad outcome. I guesss it's just semantics, but I think that fear of negative consequences is the reason people carry for prrotection. That doesn't mean they are afraid all the time. - Dan G

You're right, the nose gets in the way, so you can't see the ground too well. I find that I land best when I do the same thing I did in skydiving, which is try to hold the gear (feet) a foot off the ground for as long as possible. Just keep easing the stick back (toggles down) to maintain that foot off the ground. Eventually, you'll run out of lift and settle down. You don't need to be able to see the ground at all, as long as you can tell that you're flying level. Assuming you're doing this at one foot high instead of ten feet high, you'll have a great landing every time. You'll get a feel for what one foot off the ground feels like, and then it's easy as pie. - Dan G

I just got my PPL last month. I found my skydiving experience helped and hindered. The sight picture is way different for flaring, but once you get used to the sight picture, flaring a plane is very similar to flaring a canopy. The hard part for me was getting my feet involved in the landing. Canopies don't have rudders. The knowledge part may seem intimidating now, but get a good textbook and read it during your free time. It will come. - Dan G

I guess I just fail to see how the President is affecting most of those things. I think we'd be having the exact same budget crisis regardless of who the President was. Gas prices have nothing to do with who's in the Oval Office. I guess you could argue that banks tightening credit is in response to new banking regulations, but it seems out of proportion. I also agree that raising tax rates on capital gains might have a chilling affect on investment, but I'm not sure if that's something that Obama proposed, or is just a general fear. It seems to me that a lot of people think the President has a much larger direct impact on the economy than he really does. I understand the insecurity and uncertainty, I just don't think it is fully rational. - Dan G

Based on previous posts, I think you're kidding. If not, you have added an Irony Meter Peg Award to your Eye-roll of the Day Award. Either way, congratulations sir, well done. - Dan G
