I can accept that. I just get my panties in a wad when people post stuff about how Martin started the fight as if it were a proven fact. I find it just as irritating when people on TV state that Zimmerman was a racist as if it is the uncontested truth. We should all admit that the situation sucked, many lives have been ruined, and there were likely better ways of dealing with it that both parties could have chosen. However, once Zimmerman pulled the trigger, I think he should have been arrested. And given the fact that there was conflicting evidence (although the evidence presented by the prosecution turned out to be pretty weak), that evidence should have gone before a finder of fact, namely a jury. Now that the jury has spoken, the case should be over. - Dan G

I think a more likely POSSIBLE scenario is that Martin, who was not a peaceful kid, but apparently a punk and thug, was approached by Zimmerman and asked what he was doing in the neighborhood. Martin would probably have told Zimerman to fuck himself, perhaps even used a racial slur. In his anger at being insulted Zimmerman might have shoved, slapped, or otherwise initiated physical contact. He then proceeded to get his ass handed to him. That's a possible scenario, and obviously much more likely than your little farce. I'd also like to point out that's it's entirely consistent with the limited evidence, except Zimmerman's unsworn statements. - Dan G

All true. None of that has anything to do with how the fight started. Sure he did. I don't accept his unsworn statements at face value. Sure. Again, all that shows is that Zimmerman was losing. Apparently you missed some evidence. Like Zimmerman's trainer saying he sucked at fighting. Firstly, don't make that assumption. I don't really care who started it. I was saying that we don't know tat, and never will. Nothing more, nothing less. Secondly, thanks for demonstrating the "with-us-or-agin-us" attitude that has characterized this case. Once, again, stop making assumptions about what I do and don't approve of. In this case, he was jailed because he lied under oath about his finances and status of his passport. I agree, manslaughter would have been the better charge. OTOH, I still think he should have been acquitted of manslaughter. From a broader perspective, I think people who kill other people in public spaces should be tried, barring clear evidence of self-defense (like video, multiple unbiased witnesses, etc), regardless of the media coverage, or the skin color of the parties involved. - Dan G

Well, the actions that Zimmerman claimed he took. We still don't know how the fight started, and we probably never will. The fact that Martin was winning when Zimmerman fired his fatal shot seems pretty clear, but the only evidence that Martin started the fight are Zimmerman's statements. For the record, I think Zimmerman should have been tried, and I think he should have been acquitted. Which is exactly what happened. - Dan G

Apparently CNN did a story yesterday about the female head of the NTSB, probably because of the SFO crash. Instead of profiling her professional accomplishments, they did a fluff piece about how she likes to do tough mudder runs and scrapbooking. They focused on how she deals with being an on-the-go woman with three kids at home, and how she prepares meals for them to eat when she's on the road. Nothing about her professional life, her experience, how she got the job, etc. Can you imagine them doing the same story if she were a man? I didn't see the story, but my wife was fuming mad over it, so I got the full run down. Of course, my wife's just a silly girl, so I can only assume her anger was related to PMS or something. - Dan G
