Nice job twisting what I said. What's dystopian sci-fi is the richest nation in the history of the world contemplating withholding life saving medical care because some people lack personal responsibility. What about children? If their parents are fuck-ups do we withhold medicine from them, too? Like I said, it'll never happen. I don't particularly like the way the ACA ended up from the theoretical standpoint of "right vs. wrong" but from a practical standpoint, it makes sense. - Dan G

Who said they were arguing for anything? Did you read any of the articles? They said an agency of the DOJ set up in the 1960s to mediate between parties in racially tense situations spent a few thousand dollars helping out in a racially tense situation. The articles didn't say anything like what the headlines would lead you to believe, which is par for the course at those types of sites. - Dan G

Even you must realize there's a difference between paying a few hundred dollars a month for health insurance, and paying a few hundred thousand out of pocket when you get seriously injured. - Dan G

And if they can't pay out of pocket we just let them die on the hospital steps? Sounds good for some dystopian sci-fi flick, but it'll never happen in the real world. - Dan G

Woman finally jailed after FIVE false rape allegations
DanG replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
I hope I misunderstand you. Are you really claiming that most women who report rape are lying? - Dan G -
You should really try reading some of the stuff you link with a more critical eye. None of the documents indicate that the DOJ was organizing for or promoting a specific viewpoint. I realize that's not what those right wing websites want you to believe, but you have the choice to read their " articles" with at least a little skepticism. - Dan G

Your marriage can be whatever you want. But when the government is handing out benefits, you can't let religious concepts enter into the computation. Which is why getting government out of the marriage business is a win-win for everyone. - Dan G

Before someone gets their panties in a wad about their USPA due and funding monuments and shit, people need to understand that there is no such thing as the USPA Museum. The National Skydiving Museum is a wholly separate entity. - Dan G

Sure you are. It's rude, but so is swearing at another white dude. - Dan G

Whatever. Again, please make a point. - Dan G

Ok, I've played along long enough. Make you point, please. - Dan G

The answer to that depends on who you ask. A religious person would say God did. I would say that ancient clerics did. - Dan G

As far as I know, but I'm not well versed in the punishment stuff. But I love shellfish. - Dan G

I've got $100 says they don't. Still have no doubt? - Dan G

Be careful what you wish for. They say there's a religious gene, too. - Dan G

Russian Proton-M rocket crashes on takeoff (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

NASA will be launching the EFT-1 flight mission of the Orion vehicle next September. US government sponsored space exploration isn't dead, it's just way scaled back. - Dan G -
If you're following the Old Testament. I doubt Jesus would see it that way. - Dan G

There is a difference between a sexual orientation, and sexual behavior. You can't control your orientation. You can, of course, control your actions, but that doesn't change your orientation. Anyway, the debate is not about gay sex, it is about legal gay marriage benefits. The two issues are only very loosely related. - Dan G

Me too! Really? I feel lucky as shit. I was also born in America to parents who loved me. I ain't got no complaints. If you think we are the most persecuted group on the planet, you need to get out more. - Dan G

I suppose so. Certain sects obviously have other "laws" that they enforce, but I guess the big 10 are generally the same. Things like the golden rule are more like guidelines. And, of course Christians like to pick and choose which Levitican laws they like. - Dan G

I was a believer until about my second year of college. I got pretty into Bible study my first year, but it just created more questions than it answered. There was no moment of clarity, my faith just eroded over time. I was a believer when I received all of the early Sacraments (except baptism, which happened when I was an infant), but frankly First Communion is usually given to kids when they're too young to really question anything, and Confirmation is usually given when kids are just starting to question things. I like the Baptist idea of adult baptism better, for that reason. I was given the Last Rights when there was a chance of my dying. I accepted them to ease the pain on my mother if I didn't make it. It held no meaning for me, but I know it would have had great significance for her. Of course, this discussion really isn't about me, but I'm not ashamed of my journey like some would imply. - Dan G

I was raised Roman Catholic. If you're familiar with Catholicism you might find it interesting that I have received all of the Sacraments except ordination and marriage (since we weren't married by a priest). Yes, I even received the Last Rites once, although I was not a believer at the time so it probably doesn't really count. BTW, please do not try to claim that Catholicism is not Christian. - Dan G

Your righteous indignation at my shorthand for the wrath of God is noted. Silly, but noted. Also, I do not, and never will, understand that what you quoted were the words of God. They are the words of man, written down, translated, and perturbed through the centuries. YOU may believe they are the words of God, but that doesn't make it so. Huh? That's exactly what you said! From your very next sentence: I don't have to put words in your mouth when you clearly state them yourself. You still haven't attempted to respond to my original point, which is that a loving God would not punish innocent children for the sins of their fathers. Quoting an Old Testament passage does not relate to the tenets of Jesus Christ as stated in the New Testament. BTW, I'm assuming you are a Christian since you haven't explicitly stated so. Perhaps you are Jew or a Muslim, that might make more sense. I dunno. - Dan G

Actually I said "if" a religion did so. labrys found a church which openly states so on their website. It's naive to think that all of the fundamentalist churches out there who believe every word of the Bible have decided to ignore all the words about mixing the tribes. - Dan G
