  2. Hey with colors like that at least your old lady won't mistake some other jumper with a blaaah blue canopy for you and take a bunch of useless landing shots of some one you don't even know... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  3. I had a student progression that was less than ideal. Starting in September of 2003 (at 45 years of age) I only made 9 student jumps over the next 9 month period due to the Colorado (winter) weather and the DZ closing where I started AFF. I moved to a new DZ and on my 10th jump I broke my right leg just above the ankle and was off 15 months. I finally got back to AFF and finished my A and B licenses, struggling at times with the safety issues getting burned into my brain, extended times in between jumps, and shoulder surgery to repair an old motorcycle injury. With that experience so far in my 4 year time in the sport, my advice would be plan to start AFF when you can dedicate a block of time, say 10 days, to getting from jump 1 to completion of an A license (dead minimum 25 jumps) all at one time. Then commit to making at least 50-100 jumps over the next 12 months. At that point, if you want to take your foot off the gas for other things in your life, at least the safety basics are locked in pretty well and you will have a much better chance of being a safe "casual" jumper. 4. Ya, that jumpsuit is ABSOLUTELY THE BOMB. Congratulations on a way cool 100th!!!! Bill Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  5. Man, I can't believe you actually used to jump from that old Lockheed!! That is a fairly high wing loading/ high performance airplane for what we do with them-was it a relatively high speed jump run? Bill PS My dad flew a corporate Lockheed PV-1 (Howard 350) back in the late 60's and it was a screamer- trued out at about 290 knots cruise speed if I remember correctly. 6. I have a couple of hours of riding around time in a friend's 269. It is one cool little chopper. I would think that if your buddy is willing to deal with the weight change upon exit, it would be fun for both of you. I imagine he will see somewhat of a jump and skitter when you leave, but nothing that would be uncontrollable, more like air turbulence. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  7. Questions for the group: 1) How do you feel about utilization of the reserve deployment soft handle in lieu of the metal until more experience has been acquired? 2) What are advantages where safety is concerned? 3) What are detriments where safety is concerned? I would be interested to hear what all you experienced jumpers have to say about this as I have low jumps and a Javelin Odyssy rig with a soft handle for my reserve - the used rig I bought came with it - and I don't know what the issues really are - Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  8. Doug- Can I jump your new rig if I bring a hot girl with me and I jump it naked? Seriously, congrats on the whole setup!!! Way Cool. And who knows, since that is just my size, maybe we can switch rigs at a boogie somewhere and you can check out my Sabre 2 210. I have flown the Spectre 210 out at Skydive Mesquite and it was fun jumpin... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  9. HEY There is nothing wrong with those prairie dog holes, I LIKE those prairie dog holes, I broke my #@ $% leg in one of those prairie dog holes!! Just burning a hole in the sky.....

  13. First off, Doctor, Congratulations on working hard and paying your student loans back! That is way cool. And congratulations on the new rig! Good for you!! Jump it in good health and blue skies- Bill Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  14. I broke my leg on jump 9 or 10 of my student progression ( I was a slow learner) because I didn't PLF. Since coming back, after a 15 month layoff, I found myself PLFing alot as I was bailing out rather than risking more busted bones. I then upsized my canopy 30 sq. ft. and took a canopy course, and I PLF infrequently these days but am not too proud to do it if the stand up landing ain't goin to happen. PLF is a tool for you to use if needed no matter how many jumps you have. The best landing is the one that lets you make more jumps that day... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  15. Goes well with the fishnet stockings...ask gonzalezna. Surprised he hasn't come in here with a snappy retort yet... Oh yeah, this isn't The Bonfire... Hey Y'all- With two sons in the Marine Corps I have given them both the red ass about their dress "garters" on many occasions (they call them "shirt stays") - but I have to admit they do work. They are both jumpers so they take it well As for the riser slap, I have managed in my short number of jumps to have one of those due to bad body position on opening- it left me with three bloody spots on my face, one for each ring.... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  16. Cool Heather, thanks for this post. My dad firebombed out of Newcastle, Wyoming back in the early 1960's with a Grumman TBM that Mr. Ralston had modified. I have not heard that name in years. What a flash from the past! Thanks again! Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  17. and please explain to me how someone can build twin turbine time without morgaging their house? I know aviations a game of "who you know" You might consider getting to know some of the corporate pilots at your airport that fly turbine twins. Alot of times they don't have a full airplane, and would be happy to let you go along on a trip and get some ME time. My dad mentored many young/low time pilots in this way during his years in corporate aviation, and that helped those pilots build ME time under the supervision of one of the best instrument/multi engine/ mountain pilots ever to bend a set of throttles around here. 18. You can always do the (less painful) Marine thing- they wear garters under their dress uni's that connect their shirttails to their socks. Works good, no drywall screws or bleeding all over the place... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  19. Holy hell. You people are truly amazing. You really think the world is that black and white dont you? You really think it is only possible for people affiliated with skyride to disagree with you on this topic? Your post is a PERFECT example of how close minded you guys can be. I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH SKYRIDE IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. I AM A SKYDIVER. Nobody can confirm either of those last two statements because you are hiding your identity. Skydiving is the one thing I can go and do and get away from all the BS of the world and hang out with friendly peeps that I enjoy being with. Skyride brings all the BS backstabbing lying cheating stealing of the world into the one place I can escape from all that. SKYPAPA, YOU NEED TO GO SOAK YOUR FEET IN KEROSENE BEFORE YOU GO OUTDOORS FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  20. If USPA is counting tunnel time towards a skydiving rating, especially an instructor's rating, they should STOP that practice immediately IMO. I have about 10 times as much tunnel time as freefall time, and it has not made me a better SKYDIVER, just a better BODY FLYER. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  21. That is very cool.. Skydiving once again offers people an opportunity to overcome adversity. Truly impressive. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  22. Hey Jewels, When I turn 83, You and I are going to do a head down demo jump into the wind tunnel parking lot for a tunnel type birthday party!!! Bush is invited if he lives that long... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  23. You will never get him to take you up on it. Steven Colbert makes a living making fun of people for what they do, not actually doing anything himself. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  24. I for one think all the hot air generated on this forum discussing this issue is the TRUE CAUSE of global warming. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  25. Giving a false answer is a felony and is grounds for deportation, even for LEGAL immigrants. Like THAT is any deterrent to their lying. Thier being here is a lie from the start. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
