  1. Roger that! Although the Twin Otter flies all winter long at Mile High even though some of the jumps start out at -5 degrees F at 12,500 AGL in January..... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  2. I agree with all the other comments. I don't have an extensive jump log, but I really enjoy looking back in my aircraft logbook and I occasionally look through my dad's old logbooks and it is a history of his 40 year flying career. He was an old school "logger" with alot of details about weather, specifics of the flight, passengers, etc. Always interesting and entertaining. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  3. You don't have the right to encroach on other peoples property even if it is only occasionally and not intentional. As a land owner I can see both sides of the story. It really comes down to how you handle the problem. I have allowed perfect strangers use of my place because they were civil and respectfully asked permission. I have also run off people because they came on our land and informed me that they would do whatever they wanted even though it is private property. That crap does not fly around here. Mature communication with even the meanest landowners will usually work. NOT ALWAYS. Just usually. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  4. I was jumping Saturday and doing a 2 way with a guy I have never jumped with before. I climbed out on the T Otter, faced in, standard floater position and he took a grip on my chest strap. I made the pre-arranged count with my leg and we left. What actually happened in retrospect was that I released, he was late enough on leaving that I floated up slightly, my left hand contacted the top of the airplane palm down, slid a short distance down the fuselage, and my wedding ring hung up on end of the drip rail that is above the doorway. Because I had on a pair of lightweight gloves, it did not hang tight and slid over the drip rail. If I had been barehanded I probably would have hooked solid on the drip rail and lost my ring finger. As it is, the joint was bloody, swollen, and sore enough that I did not pack my rig, just went home. The rest of the jump went very well, and even though I felt the tug at the time it all was so unusual and happened so fast that I didn't realize what was happening 'til after I landed. Moral of this story- I am not going to wear my wedding ring jumping any more, even with gloves. Hardware of all kinds that we wear is subject to possible snagging on all sorts of places in, around, even on the outside of, the airplane. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  5. I've had 3 dreams about skydiving. It's always a dark cloudy day and I always pound in with some kind of mal, get up and walk away. The last one, I landed smack in the middle of the swoop pond, nothing out, and three of my jump buddies dragged me out of the pond and lectured me about the no pull thing. I woke up in a cold sweat with my heart pounding. Best medicine I have found for it is to go jump right away and chase the booger man off. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  6. Hey at least it won't go "out of fashion" or become "dated". Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  7. The first two steps, and the mantra that I say every time I practice EP's is LOOK REACH Taught to me by my first instructor, who had not had a cutaway in his 1500 jumps. I asked him, in my ignorance, "if you have never had a cutaway, how come you practice your EP's every jump day?" The answer, of course, was " BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER HAD a cutaway, I have no real life experience at it. So I practice ALOT." Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  8. Maybe a clearer answer to the OP's question is: First off, compare you to yourself. Second, get to a DZ where they are doing alot of relative work, get some tunnel time, get some coaching. Jumping at a turbine DZ where you can get another 3000 or 4000 ft of freefall per jump won't hurt either. Nobody here is dissing any Cessna DZ. I have had some great jumps at two different single engine Cessna DZ's. It's just different from what you can get in the overall at a little bigger dropzone with bigger faster airplanes. 9. Ryan- I wouldn't say you are "behind" others of your approximate jump numbers- I would say that there are others out there like myself that have had the advantage of alot of tunnel time to learn to fly better sooner, thus placing us "ahead" of the norm. Tunnel time is a great way to gain control of your flying and fall rate in less time. If you come to Denver for the August tunnel camp, let me know and we can go jump at Mile High and get in some 60 second belly jumps(exit at 13,500 AGL). The extra fall time also helps in the execution of what you have learned in the tunnel. (Fall time seconds really do add up, I only have about 100 jumps and over an hour of freefall time logged to date) Bill Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  10. In the sport 3 1/2 years and lost a friend, the TI that had taken my wife for her one and only skydive. THAT SUCKED. Have lost another friend since then. No different. But both would have wanted us all to stay as safe as we can, keep learning, and keep on jumping. So that's what I am doing. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  11. HEEEY YOU GUYS. Don't be dissing the Brits and their doggone good idea. They will get all butt hurt and not let us copy them. America will not be able to take advantage of their visionary and astute military planning.... But I did hear that song! Fighting canines from the sky... Fearless friends who bark and cry Dogs who fly and work for food They look so cute under parachute Bad ass hounds who know just what When they land, they'll sniff your butt Dogs who jump and are the best They work and earn that green jump vest... Chorus Place silver wings upon their vest Make them one of Britain's best They'll fly and work and earn the right To get dog bones and beef pasty pie Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  12. It actually does not FEEL as cold when you get out as the airplane's thermometer says. It has something to do with the fact that I wear full cold weather gear in winter and you just aren't up in the really cold air all that long. I have seen -5 F on the outside air temp guage in the cockpit of the Mile High T Otter at 13,500 AGL many times. Kind of like running outside to your car in a t shirt and shorts in the dead of winter to get something. You just aren't out in the cold very long. IMO You will be able to handle it just fine. ESPECIALLY in San Diego. Come jump in Colorado in January for some COLD FUN. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  13. Are you talking about the PS job or the group picture at the bottom where they put a black circle over the dogs face as well? Someone obviously has a sense of humor I don't suppose it occured to you that it was done so the dog isn't recognized by other dogs, did it? Not so smug anymore, eh? If THAT was the reason, they would have put the black circle over the dog's BUTT....sniff...sniff...sniffsniff... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  14. Yes, but I will have to wait until the Marine Corps get done with both of them..... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  15. Other reasons to log regardless of numbers beyond 1000? Those log books are priceless to his children and I'm sure will be passed on in his family for generations to come. YMMV R.I.P. I want to echo this. My father was a pilot with over 17,000 hours flying time when he retired, and he had meticulously logged every minute. It gives me great pleasure to read comments in his logbooks about famous people that were his passengers, exotic or dangerous airplanes that he flew, wild weather conditions on this flight or that, etc. We should all think about this aspect of our logbooks-today's logbook entry is tomorrow's history. It has value today and even greater value in the future. I even like reading in my own skydiving logbook about jumping 2 way with my son, now off in the Marine Corps, and dreaming about the day to come when he, I, and his brother (A Marine deployed right now in Iraq) can all be together again and jumping a 3 way. 16. Hey check out CSPENSEFLY's sig line....you may NOT be an asshole... I am glad to hear some of you skygods still have your goggles up on exit-I thought I was the only damn fool that pulls this stunt! Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  17. A wonderful tribute. Quite obviously an exceptional man. Semper Fidelis ...BSBD. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  18. They have quotas. One week it's old people, the next it's soccer moms. Hey Skymama - Those TSA perverts probably saw the article about you in Parachutist and recognized you from your picture. They just wanted to have a look UNDER that sweatshirt Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  19. What a load of tripe. The Bible is no different than statistical studies in that if you want to set up an idea and then creatively shape the stats to support your theory, it is do-able. The Bible is clear that DISCIPLINE IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY PARENT. So, take that mandate and shape your parenting and life to IT, not the other way around. If having a child do pushups works better than spanking (certainly did on my boys) then use that method of discipline, but don't twist and twist and twist on Scripture to make it say what you WANT it to rather than what it says. The Bible is also clear that people who add to or subtract from the Scriptures and spread that opinion/misinformation as the word of God have a very real problem with God come the judgement day. 20. MAMBA if you got the money. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  21. I like that one too. Kinda gross but it is the way you should go, if yo go skydiving. Does that mean you should j/o if our reserve doesn't work? If that is the only thing left to pull on I guess you should just ... keeeeeep pulling... Just burning a hole in the sky.....

  23. My goal in posting, well in most cases, is to get jumpers to think about what they are doing and take steps that will allow them to continue doing it. I don’t want you or any other jumper to quit having fun but to realize you can have fun and live to tell the stories. I have got more stories than I care to remember and am still here to tell them. That is because some old gray beards showed me how to have fun and still survive.
  24. You can really die doing this shit and when it happens, it ain't pretty and sometimes it ain't quick. I think I may write this one on the inside of my googles. Thanks, Zig Zag. And thanks for starting this thread, Sparky. Blue Skies, EZ landings everyone.... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  25. I'm with you. Lucky for me, my husband supports my decision, and most of my bills.... but heck I put on some pretty good boogies that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. You and the OP are both lucky. Good for you!! I wish my wife would let me "cut away".... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
