  2. Playing the race card is the quickest way of squelching any critical debate. When you present a logical argument that starts outweighing the rhetoric of multiculturalists or people who promote unsustainable immigration rates, then they can always deploy that as a debate ender when they feel they are losing. We are collaborating with Mexico. They keep you distracted with blatant obvious border violations while we ever so sneakily infiltrate. You will be assimilated....resistance is futile...eh. We will send all of you to re-education camps where you will be taught to be greatfull for a government that protects you from your own spending habits, by taxing all your wages and deciding how your money would best be spent. You will learn to trust them to think for you as you suck the government nipple. Those who don't get with the program will be shot, in the interest of the collective good. You will systematically be brainwashed with a rigorous regime of Molson Canadian, maple syrup, poutine, Anne Murray and Uncle Paul (Paul Martin)...etc. You will become anti-military, pro-socialist, and the word "gun" will be outlawed due to politicall correctness considerations. It is too late to stop us! We live among you! For all you know the freind sitting beside you having a beer could be...........a Canadian! 6. Would that be the same India where about 700 muslims were slaughtered in Gujarat while the government stood by and watched? The worlds largest democracy? Richards The attack was on 58 hindus on a train and it happenned so fast that the government could not respond. The slaughter of 700 muslims happenned over several weeks while the indian government stood by and allowed men women and children to be slaughtered in revenge. Ether way, India is not a good example of multiculturalism or how a society should be run. They still stricly adhere to a caste system. Furthermore while slavery is technically illegal, it is overlooked by the authorities. India is a better example of how cultural balkanization can lead to strife. 9. Thats OK. It's only considered racism if white people do it. Didn't you know that? Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  10. So long as there is one standard for all and not some "adjustment" to make sure we have equal representation, then any man, woman, minority, gay, transvestite, transexual, ...etc should be allowed to serve. 11. It is not an issue of blaming so much as critiquing the way he handled it. Yes the robber started it by initiating the robbery, however regardless of who creates a scenario, if you are there then you have a responsibility to act in a manner that minimizes risk for all concerned. My question is did he do that? Either the cashier figured that the situation was going to end violently regardless of what he did, or he did not think that. If he was convinced that it was going to end violently then he had justification in shooting. Whether or not a reasonable person in his position subject to similar stress would have believed violence was imminent, I cannot tell and will not presume to do so without more information. If however his reasoning was for any other reason then he was being irresponsible. Shootouts in enclosed spaces place everyone in the place at risk. Even if he was being carefull where his bullets went, the other guy probably would not show the same standard of care and therefore the shootout places everyone in danger. If the robber started shooting back and hit the woman/baby in an attempt to hit the clerck, then the clerk would bear some responsibility for starting the shootout unless it was absolutely neccessary to start shooting. That is why in scenarios where there are hostages, SWAT goes in as a last resort when the negotiator fears that people will die if they do not go in. Even with their degree of close quarter fighting skill, they realize that a shootout will endanger everyone, and try to avoid it at all costs. In almost all cases if you cooperate and give the robber what he wants then he will leave with the money and your boss will claim it through his insurance. No amount of property is worth risking the lives of innocent people. It is also not right to try to be a hero when your actions have repercussions for everyone in the room. I am all for citizens arming themselves for protection, and I like to see a bad guy get his commupance more than anyone, but I do feel that when you carry you have a responsibility to always consider the consequences of your actions before you draw. Again, I realize that I do not have anywhere near enough information to draw a conclusion. I am just pointing out that questions do need to be asked about his actions and motives, and I am no way mitigating the actions of the robber. 12. I fully acknowledge that I would need more information to arrive at a final conclusion. The point I was trying to make are that the optics of the situation looked a little frightening. Wasn't trying to be the judge and jury, merely the saying that he had better have had a damn good reason for starting a shootout with all those bystanders around. 15. Did BC or Alberta create a special police task force to enforce English only on signs in stores? Quebec did. After implementing Bill 101 ( a law requiring commercial signs in quebec to be french only, not bilingual, despite having forced bilingualism on the rest of canada), quebec created a police task force called the language police, who would go to stores and make sure that signs were not bilingual but french only. If a store owner had a sign french and english he would get reported to the authorities and the "Language SS" would come around and order him to remove the english, and would take legal action against him if he did not comply . English was outlawed! Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  16. And probably likewise, french people move away or just don't move to Alberta or BC because of hostility or (more likely) because nobody speaks French here. No they simply take over and act like they own the place. I actually knew a french canadian girl ( who spoke perfect english) who went to Alberta (where french is about as common as leprechauns), and signed up for a tour of the provincial legislature. When the tour was about to start she proclaimed "I would like my tour conducted in french" and would not budge untill they found someone who could do the tour in french for her (bitch). While they were looking for someone to help her she proceeded to berate them on all the "bilingual country" bullshit that is shoved down the throats of english canadians. Was it really neccessary for her to be difficult with them and get in their faces? My extended family is about one third french and I can speak from experience that quebec culture encourages contempt for english canada. We have accomodated them again and again yet they still pout and scream, and get in our faces. I realize that there are two sides to all stories but I think at this stage it is quebec that needs to start extending a bit of an olive branch. 17. So in other words, armed civilians are equal in effectiveness to trained cops! For all the nay-sayers: stories of citizens using armed self defense: I'm not sure how you derived that from my comment but ok. I am not at all against the idea of people bearing arms. I certainly support the right of a person to use a gun in defence. I just have serious concerns about the way that robbery was handled. I realize that I was not there and am therefore a monday morning quarterback, however a person has to use judgement. If the robber was stating an intention to kill anyway (or if the clerk had reason to beleive that the guy was going to go on a mass murder spree) then fine. With the right to carry comes the obligation to use responsibly. Even cops have backed off when they felt that a situation might cause greater danger to bystanders. Starting a shootout when there are bystanders around is reckless. 18. And only at that point should you be thinking of shooting it out with them. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  19. If you are willing to risk your own life to protect the bosses money (in a low paying job like those cashiers), that is your choice, but starting a shotout with a burglar, while bystanders who have no say in whether or not there is a shootout is irresponsible. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  20. The rift between the french and the english has almost brought us to breakup on several occasions. There is seething resentment throughout canada about the fact that official bilingualism is enforced in places like alberta where there is almost no french. I have received rude treatment on many occasions in quebec and at one time I was in a french hospital and the receptionist would not serve me. Many english people in quebec have moved away because of the hostility that is present. 22. Gosh, we shouldn't let cops have guns! Not my point. I'm just saying that if someone who has that amount of training can miss under stress, then it is easy for an untrained person to miss. 23. Thats highly lethal! Everyone knows that. Dial 911 immediately, and have them send a medical team before it's too late! Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  24. Without a great deal of training a person can easily miss targets at close range when under stress. I saw a video where a cop and a bad guy fired at eachother from about 5-10 feet and emptied their mags yet neither guy was hit. 25. That can happen very easily. In the heat of the moment a person can develop blinders to everything but the other shooter. The video is really quite frightenning to watch. I actually support the right to bear arms but to borrow a phrase from Billvon "a gun cannot be a substitute for a brain". That guy acted recklessly.
