  1. My wife hates that I spend time on DZ.com. She thinks I use up valuable time that could be put to better use. I have to come to this sight when she is not around. Is this a common problem? 2. Why would you do that? Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  3. I would not go for an occupation as that is a type of conflict that allows a technically inferior enemy to mitigate our technical advantage. I simply mean overwhelming force with a reasonable attempt to minimize collateral damage followed by a withdrawal which will hopefully result in someone realizing (while trying to conduct damage control) that an attack against us is not worth it. I realize that for many this will be the seed for new hatred but it could not be helped. In some cases a great deal of damage needs to be done before the other side realises that it is not worth it and is willing to back down. It took a couple of horrible world wars for people in Europe to realize that problems need to be dealt with by some other means. Perhaps that may be the only option Isreal has. It seems that they have wanted a peace settlement but the other side always drags up old greivances to block the peace process. I realize that negotiating is better than fighting but sometimes you need to spell that out for the other side. The problem is that you're not fighting a cohesive government that will surrender and the war will end. You're fighting a fragmented ragtag bunch of paramilitary types; often there's not even any leadership to get them to stop fighting (even if you could convince them to stop fighting to begin with.) In most cases it appears that the governments of the neighboring countries support these rag-tag groups of fighters implicitly (if not explicitly) and could be doing more to curb their actions. They may not be able to stop them completely but they could at leat try to cooperate with Isreal by limmiting these groups to the best of their ability. I realise that just about anyone can find a million flaws in my argument and be right because there is no "right" solution. It just seems that when you are faced with somone who is hell bent on doing harm and will not agree to peace then in the short term fighting back is the "least worst" option. It appears that nothing else seems to work over there right now. 4. I don't know if I can define it that easily. I guess I mean I would treat it as a total war. I do not agree with responding to every provocation as that is clearly what some elements would want, and those elements could be dealt with by other means. If it became evident that a neighboring state was allowing elements to operate within their borders to plan attacks against me I would start by using diplomatic means, but if those failed and the attacks continued I would give an ultimatum to that country and go in if they did not comply. I can't say any good could neccessarily come out of this (all war is horrible) but I could not allow something like that to continue. In terms of playing to win I figure going full out against all military, government, infrastructure, and terrorist targets until they capitulate and come to the negotiating table. It is impossible to say that without coming across as brutal but I would not see any other way. I gues I am glad the decision does not rest on my shoulders because no-one responsible for dealing with this is going to come out looking good. 5. Wasn't accusing you of that, sorry if it came across that way. Again I can see that with the US and the Iraq war, I disagree with respect to Isreal. I am not a historian but I have over the years observed that everyone in the middle east wants to wipe Isreal off the map. While I agree that Isreali troops have been guilty of misconduct in many cases (much like US and Canadian troops) I do sympathise with their position. This is not merely a border dispute. A neighboring country harbours elements who intend to attack Isreal simply because they are Isrealis. If I were Isreal I might be fed up with trying to explain nicely that I have the right to exist. I would certainly not feel like limmiting my response when the people I am up against wish me dead simply because of my religion (while using the palestinian situation as the red herring for his actions). No matter what Isreal does it will be at war. In that case it may as well play to win. Cheers, Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  6. I am not sure how you would expect them to respond to the attack on their troops. If I may use a barfight analogy, it would be wrong for a 240 pound guy to provoke a fight with a guy my size but if I punch him without provocation, he does have the right to defend himself even if it is against a smaller guy. Perhaps a weak analogy but just trying to convey my perspective If they limit themselves to a proportional response will it really be effective? I don't know as I am not a strategist but I would imagine that an overwhelming response would send a more severe message. 7. I can see what you are saying with respect to the US invasion of Iraq but I do not see Isreal bringing a war. While you may not agree with their tactics I hardly see them asking for this war. Either way even before Iraq and this latest Isreal/Lebanon/Palestine thing, everyone seemed to hate these two countries. Not saying there aren't some legitimate greivances but much of this hate will exist regardless of what they do. 9. I suspect that pretty much every country in the world will seperate human life into "our people" and "those people" during a time of war and will show the same bias with respect to human suffering. Why is this something that should uniquely single out Isreal and the US for hatred? Or is it just that some people want to hate them and will find any reason they can? 10. Unfortunately not my first surgery. Fourth major surgery. Although it was my first since Skymedic came into my life... Damn! No free beer!! Oh well, I sincerely wish you the speediest recovery and that you be back in freefall ASAP. 11. Yeah.. like playing video games all day on th enewest consoles... Naaahh. Surfing porn, skydiving, and scratching myself shamelessly on public streets while staggering drunk. 12. That sounds a bit harsh but then I am in no position to preach leniency given some of my views on issues. I usually try to determine if the long term benefit of getting even is worth it. In some cases if someone wrongs me and I find that if it is not likely to continue then I will try to avoid initiating a a tit-for-tat scenario as it is uses too much energy, and therefore should be avoided at all costs. That said there is a line that cannot be crossed and it is diffrerent for everyone. If a person demonstrates that they intend to continue a harmfull action against me then I will resort to detterence. Do you not worry that getting even might actually provoke a series of back and forth "attacks"? 13. Should you not try turning the cheek initially and resort to deterrence only as a last resort? Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

  15. Short boring and rich. With oodles of money I would not need to be interesting, because I could afford to create my own fun without compromise. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

Holy shit. I am not very experienced with pistols but that sounds pretty hard. Approximately how long does it take the average person to become that proficient? 17. Agreed. While I doubt she has broken any law (maybe emotional abuse but then I don't really know), she has certainly acted in an unethical manner. Deliberately manipulating an infant to inflict torment for the purpose of making the child cry for a picture is heartless and mean spirited. I cannot fathom how she could actually live with herself while doing that. While I am sure that her work cannot be banned, it would be nice if art galleries decided to make a moral stand and refuse to show her work. Hopefully this stunt backfires on her and gets her shunned not only by the mainstream but also by the art community. With luck she may actually come to see how reprehensible her actions were and have the insight and character to realise that she should be ashamed of herself. 21. Like yourself I do not advertise the fact. When I first stated in the sport I told all my freinds, but only because I wanted them to try it as it was so much more fun than I expected. I learned over time that while most of my freinds will say " I really want to try that some-day" most of them will never come out. I do not make a habit of dropping it into conversations unless the conversation merits it. Anyway I am temporarily on hiatus from the sport so it rarely ever seems to come up. My only conection is the occasional chat with my freinds from the dropzone and visiting this sight.
