  1. I wish more people would accept that right or wrong ..it is done and now the question is "how do we minimize the damage". Too many people want to debate a decision that has already been made even though it is now moot. Lay the blame where it belongs after the issue has been resolved. None of the people who wish to lament endlessly about what should have been done can offer a constructive solution as to how to move forward. If you tell people that if we pull the troops out it could cause chaos they will simply say "well Bush shouldn't have gone in there in the first place". That is great but no help whatsoever to the people in Iraq who now have to face the consequences of an invasion they had no say in. If pulling out will make the situation better then fine do it but don't leave them to clear up our mess because "we shouldn't have gone in there in the first place" Sorry for going off in a tangent from the original thread. 2. 1) Michael Ignatieff - Initialy was impressed by his demeanor (he seemed so realistic for a liberal) yet his flip flop turn against Isreal told me that in true liberal fashion he would trade his integrity and values to appease a large voting demograph (muslims) just to buy a few votes. 2) Bob Rae - WTF. This is the idiot former NDPer who said "Socialism is love" and argued that refusing to allow people to bill OHIP for penis enlargements, tattoo removal..etc was un-canadian. This is the fool who destroyed Ontarios economy by sending business scrambling either south or to other provinces. Lets see he fucks up a province so we want to let him run the country? Thats like taking a man whos drivers liscence has been revoked for careless driving and DUI numerous times and saying "maybe he will be a good 747 pilot". I will shoot myself if this man is our next PM. 3) Gerard Kennedy - He can always count on the special interest vote. 4) Stephane Dion - Let a seperatist run the country. Uhhmmm....no. 5) Ken Dryden - Don't know enough about him. 6) Jon Volpe - Don't know enough about him. 7) Scott Brison - maybe a least worst for the liberals 8) Martha Hall Findlay - Celebrity...must be a good politician. 1) Jack Layton NDP Leader - HAAAA-HHAAAAA-HAAAAA!HAAAA-HHAAAAA-HAAAAA!HAAAA-HHAAAAA-HAAAAA! Again the NDP who can destroy a province faster than a twister destroys a trailer park. these are the fools who in British Columbia put together a study group which determined that single mothers on welfare were overwhelmed by their housework and decided that the taxpayers were going to provide "Subsidized Maid Service" to single mothers on welfare. I would feel more comfortable with Tom Green or Saddam Hussien running our country than this laughing fool. 2) Gilles Duceppe Bloc Quebecois Leader - communist seperatist. Uhm no. 3) Stephen Harper PM and CPC Leader - Well so far he has done OK but he does have his failings (better enviro plan). I know people were upset at him for his reversal on Income trusts but it was the right decision to make in the end. He should have thought more carefully before making that promise. So long as he doesn't start imposing his "family values" on every canadian he should do OK *** Then again we know Canadian's are all about "feeling good about themselves" without actually doing anything of real substance. All one needs to do is look at our big cities to see how rapidly they are becoming cess pools of poverty, crime and corruption thanks to Pierre Elliot Trudeau and his socialistic brainwashing much of the nation. Oh and there is a JR Trudeau (Justin) brewing in the pot promising to pick up where his father left off. He's doing his show-biz thing now tailoring himself for that poster boy good looks style whichs works so well on lemmings.*** The truth of that statement makes me want to cry. I hope for a Conservative majority. Mostly because I wish to have two strong parties which in the long term will serve canadians better. 3. Exactly. Why go to all the effort of seeing the other sides perspective and seeking a constructive resolution/compromise, when we can simply blame "Them" for all the problems that "Those People" create. 4. I see people in urban areas hop on the subway to go 3/4 of a mile because they are too fat and lazy to put forth the effort to walk. Are gas guzzling H2's and F-350's unique to suburbia? I see a lot of SUV's and even Hummers right downtown. Many people I know in suburbs drive a Honda Accord or Civic. Any environment can provide incentive for slothlike behavior. Like for example having every kind of store and fast food place within 20 steps of your inner city apartment, or living right near a subway which can take you to the theatre 4 blocks away. When I lived in the burbs I drove my bike everywhere and walked all the time. I do not like walking downtown as I am frequently harranged by panhandlers (I still do walk however), and I will not risk riding my bike in the city traffic. Suburbia does not promote sloth, peoples choices promote sloth. 5. Fair enough. You like living in more urban areas, and that is your right. Some people do, however like living in Suburbia yet people seem to want to prevent that from happenning. 6. As there are more people there will be need for more housing. Many people do not want to live in high rises in downtown and would prefer to raise their children in an environment that is somewhat seperated from the unpleasantries of urban life (ie crime, pollution, overcrowding, noise). In suberbia your 8 year old kid can actually walk a few blocks to his freinds house without you worrying about gangs and drugs. I can appreciate the desire to see farmland but the reality is that there is a need for housing and there is simply no more room in the cities. WRT people complaining about the dropzone. Pitt Meadows DZ is right near a suburban area, yet to the best of my knowledge there have been no complaints. Usually people only have an argument if some source of noise is put in place after they move in. If the DZ was already there then it is a case of buyer beware. 8. Putting him in prison will just create a movement to "Free Saddam" which will gai momentum so long as he is imprisoned. This might actually be worse than the martyr effect. They will commit act upon act until they get his freedom. His supporters would spin that to say it represents the willingness of the Western Infidel to "subjugate and humiliate muslims" thus promoting greater hatred of the west. It would still be funny to see however. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  9. What are you doing here? Mostly enjoying the debates and being entertained by some of the rather colourful characters here. I never found that fighting on this sight contributed in any way to a debate. I usually find it irritating even if it does not involve me. I realize you should not be here if you are thin skinned, which I am not. I have been called every name under the sun here yet laugh it off . I simply do not go looking for it as I find it to be a rather pointless use of my time and energy. It did concern me however that an acknowledgement of someones expertise was misconstrued as an implied personal attack. If my choice of words is that far from the intended message then I need to work on that. Cheers, Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

  11. Is this Speakers' Corner? Is the Pope Catholic? I don't know what to say. I simply wanted to make the point that you are knowledgable in the sciences and I am not, and therefore I was at a disadvantage on that point and unable to either agree or disagree with you. I really did not mean to come across as being flippant. It kind of concerns me that a statement acknowledging someones expertise can be perceived as an insult. It must be my delivery. It is not in my nature to try to be rude to people who I am conversing with online. I like a good heated debate but I never look for fights. 12. I can't say as I have never actually heard of these guys. You work in the feild of science and have a better perspective so I have to take your word on it. Cheers, Richards Kallend, I think what he's saying is, "Takes one to know one you pinko ecofreak!" Nooo! Holy shit. Did it really come across that way? I was simply acknowledging that as a professor of physics he is in a better position to determine whether or not their argument is valid. Despite not being a biologist he is at least better capable of recognizing a solid scientific argument vs a lot of misrepresented data than someone who is not knowledgible in any science like me. He may also be more familiar with who's who in the science world and know which organizations have credibility and which ones do not. Do I really come across as that confrontational and sarcastic? 14. Not an expert but heres my 2 cents. Not a big fan of pistols as they are not accurate even under the best of circumstances unless you practice regularly (combat shooting not target). Unless you are a police officer, military (in some capacity that trains you for close quarter fighting), you may find that a pistol is surprisingly inaccurate when your heart is racing, hands shaking, and you are generally shitting your pants in fear. As a backup for a point blank scenario it would be fine but I would go for the shotgun first. In fairness I do not have that kind of training so I may be projecting my own limitations on you. Regarding the shotgun, comfort has to be a factor because if you are not comfortable with the gun you are using you will not be efective (hit with a .22 vs a miss with a .44 analogy) so don't sacrifice ergonomics for firepower (within reason). A 12 guage pump is probably a good choice as it is simple to use yet devastating. As many have already mentioned the sound of a shotgun being pumped is universally recognised and will most likely send Mr. Burglar on his way. You do however need to train. Do not place too much confidence in the spread. It is not a claymore that will destroy everything to your front as some assume. People do miss with shotguns! A final issue is penetration. At close range smaller shot can be devastating yet it has less likelyhood of going through a wall if you miss and killing your neighbors kid in his home. That would be the other concern with the 1911. I have a Remington 870 Express and I am quite happy with it. Many will disagree but I have had no problems with it and it was reasonably cheap. Anyway, good luck with your shoping spree. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.

  17. Me thinks that is the LEAST of our worries right now I would imagine that this should actually be a priority. Not only is it a food issue but what about the effect on plant life in the ocean (which is responsible for a large quantity of the worlds oxygen) and other secondary effects? For interest sake I am curious. What is the most iportant concern? 18. What can I say? The story speaks for itself. We may have screwed ourselves. http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/science/11/02/seafood.crisis.ap/index.html This sucks. 19. Professional student (AKA Loser). My specialties include finding creative new ways to get the school to fund projects (which employ me) so i can have more money to buy more beer and get fatter and uglier while surfing internet porn. 20. Dumbasses who make poor choices and want to point the finger (think of all the boneheads in our sport who have signed every waiver yet stil sue after a bobo). The result; People end up taking less responsibility for thier own actions. Silly rules and warnings get put into place to protect us from ourselves. Lawyers get rich. 21. Oh ya, I just love it when some plug screws up and starts pointing the finger. Had a guy try that on me when he thought I wasn't within earshot. Tore him a new asshole right in front of theboss and shredded his credibility for the remainder of the time he was employed there. But copy machines. I have screamed at them, begged, threatened and even talked dirty to them just to get some cooperation. I swear the photocopier at my work laughs when I walk by it. 23. Great. Now we have double protection. I see some women on this thread saying that they would not trust a guy to tell the truth about taking it. Do you think that guys look forward to unplanned pregnancies. I would certainly take the damn pill. My own peace of mind.
