Rep. Rangel Seeks to Reinstate the Draft
steveorino replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
Which would you prefer: 1. Support your family even though you don't get as much quality time with them. 2. Live on assistance from the Gov, but have plenty of time for your family? I choose #1. By showing children that you have to be responsible and productive you are doing more for them than letting them think that it is OK for the Gov to take care of you. . Bingo! Just what my dad taught me. steveOrino -
Rep. Rangel Seeks to Reinstate the Draft
steveorino replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
In practical terms, that can be very hard, especially if you have a family with whom you hope to eat dinner with at night. Dang, what was I thinking. I had 4 kids under 10 years when I lived in Alaska. I guess I should have expected someobody to take care of me instead of being resourceful enough to work several jobs. steveOrino -

Rep. Rangel Seeks to Reinstate the Draft

Come again. What steps are we taking to become this way? I see us going the other way, so how are we losing this so-called, self-help ability? You're a perfect example. You believe you are entiled to public health care but you don't want to pay premiums. Somebody pays for heath care (such that it is) You just don't want it to be you. Our country is full of entitlement programs ... they're not hard to miss. steveOrino -
Spiders don't bother me just spider webs ... weird, huh? steveOrino

We're off thread topic, so I apologize, but what did I say that made you think I'm enamoured with corporate profits? I'm for people doing what they need to do without looking for another entitlement. I guess I'm old fashioned. steveOrino -

So, living free from pain is a privelage? No, but I distinctly remember working 2-3 jobs when my kids were small so I could pay for Doctor bills. Our country is quickly losing its self help ability and taking on an entitlement personality. I'm not for people being in pain, but I'm not also for people throwing away money on rent. I guess we should give everyone a home. steveOrino -

Funny that the only opposition so far has been based on class envy. - I see, because I haven't had medical coverage most of my adult life, I'm envious? Perhaps I'm disgusted at the classist nation this is. Perhaps I'm envious of countries that establish medical and social services for ALL people in their country - citizens. So class privilege disgusts me, not makes me envious. I'm curious as to why you seem to believe medical coverage is a right? steveOrino -
I'm not overly fond of spider webs. steveOrino

How'd that work in Korea and Viet Nam? In VietNam the well connected found ways of getting around it, like finding their kids a billet in the NG. Of course that would never happen again. Gimme a break. The draft is NOT the answer! steveOrino -

That was used in the second generation of mission impossable on TV. not that old. I was in my early teens and I am 32 on monday! thats not Old is it? The original TV line was regarding Mr. Phelps. Mr. Phelps played the bad guy in the MI movie, but he was the star of the TV series which aired from '66 to '73 steveOrino

GOOD! I'm too old to see or hear that term in any other light other than that from my youth. Growing up in Texas in 50s & 60s I remember the "colored" drinking fountains, "whites only" restrooms, etc. People both black and white paid dearly to reverse a long held injustice, and it sickens me to see it or hear it regardless of the color of the skin of the person spewing that crap. Good riddance! Back on track. I bet this "somehow" comes back to bite OJ. With double jeopardy I don't know how, but I bet it will. Remember, I said it here. steveOrino

i think it's because OJ is a nigger If THAT reply won't ban you then some mods here are wusses. that's the best "forcing their hand" post i've seen in a while

You're right -- it is stupid, whether the generalizations are made about Americans, Muslims, Christians, Brits, French (well, maybe not the French. ) I agree I respectfully disagree Maybe not, maybe. I guess we will never know. How many 100,000 soldiers were in that enviornment and didn't commit autrocities? I'm too much an existentialist to give them that pass. See my reply about me being an existentialist. steveOrino

I guess most people would think I was referring to the topic thread of public smoking, but hey, some people don't always get it. steveOrino

Well, in a cessna 182, you "typically" dive the exit on a tandem. In AFF, diving exits are "typically" taught AFTER poised exits, that is all. steveOrino

Kid is hungry? Feed him/her. Put a light blanket over your shoulder. What could wrong with that? steveOrino

One would have been sufficient for sure, but let's not let anyone use the actions of these rogues to bash America or its troops. It would be the same as bashing Saudis or Muslims in general for 9/11 steveOrino

A reference to TV's Mission Impossible. Dude, I never dreamed you were THAT old! steveOrino

Yeah, but still. My son is into these games. What was he thinking?? steveOrino
