As a TM, I like it when the student is pumped and strutting after his tandem. Most will never come back and jump again, but they faced their fears. I give them all the kudos in the world. Buy the tee-shirt, tell their story over a beer, make the most of their moment of fame. Carpus Diem! steveOrino

Personally, I like what they do in Maricopa County. http://www.mcso.org/ steveOrino

Got me - I'm not familar with it. I'm not for Welfare as anything but a temporary solution except in cases of disability. steveOrino

That is my feelings. Welfare has its purpose, but too many abuse it. it needs a MAJOR overhaul. steveOrino

Six Muslim Clerics Removed from USAir Flight for Praying
steveorino replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
Bill, we can play hypothetical all day long. Look at my original post. Although in no way would the charasmatic acts be seen as terrorism based on previous terror acts, but had they acted that way (as I initially posted) they would have been removed if they did not stop doing their religous thing. Are you really saying that if the imans did what was said they did (shout anti-american slogans, etc) that the airline did not have the responsibility to ask them to stop and if they wouldn't to take them off the airplane? steveOrino -
Sir Aurthur? steveOrino

Rep. Rangel Seeks to Reinstate the Draft

Since I'm the one to said I worked 2-3 jobs (and still do) let me explain. My lack of income is not because I'm stupid, it is because I intentially chose careers that have rewards that are not financial. I pastor a small congregation, I teach, and I'm a videographer & tandem master. As well, I illustrate for major magazines (Sat Eve Post, BH&G, GH, Ebony, to name some of the 100s) and books. Had I simply wanted to draw, or pastor, I'd never been able to support my family. I got creative rather than dependent. I never abandoned my kids. I was home around 3PM every day. Yes, I drew and built websites after they went to bed, but I proved I didn't have to rely on a hand-out. It is not always either/or when it comes to second jobs and raising a family. Too many take the easy street. steveOrino -

Imagine that. steveOrino -
I WAS a buiness owner. I never saw unemployment insurance as welfare. steveOrino

Collecting what you paid in to isn't the same as staying home every day, cashing welfare checks. steveOrino

I understand. But there are those out there that would rather do nothing then get paid minimum wage. See poll. That bothers me. Maybe it shouldn't but it does. steveOrino

Six Muslim Clerics Removed from USAir Flight for Praying
steveorino replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't know, maybe politely asked them to stop instead of throwing them off the plane? Just an idea. Vale I agree. I'm not sure we have all the facts here. Were they asked and refused. Were they simply told to get off the plane the second they stood up to pray outloud? steveOrino -
So who is NOT having the traditional Thanksgiving meal?
steveorino replied to SkydiveStMarys's topic in The Bonfire
I WISH I was, but alas the family likes turkey and dressing. Ugh, not me. The best Thanksgiving meal I ever had was when a friend with a Chinese wife came over for Thanksgiving dinner. She cooked traditional Chinese food for me and my wife cooked turkey and dressing for her husband. steveOrino -
Six Muslim Clerics Removed from USAir Flight for Praying
steveorino replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
Probably not, but what would they have done if six charasmatics coming home from a Rodney Brown meeting stood up speaking in tongues and rolling down the ailses in a prayer time as they are known to do at times. Hey, throw in a few snake handlings for good measure. steveOrino -
As a Texan who lives in OK for the last 11 years I'm trying to figure out where you saw that many rebel flags??? In all the years I've been here I have seen maybe one or two on a biker's leather vest or on a pick-up truck. I guess I don't hang in the same places you do. steveOrino

A thread drift on another topic leads me to this question. Your job only pays X amount of dollars. You need more. You can make the same or close to the same X amount of dollars by collecting welfare. Should you quit your job and collect welfare (you'll be with your kids more -- and won't be "emotionally abandoning" them as someone put it) or should you take on another job that may mean you will spend more time away from home. steveOrino

Rep. Rangel Seeks to Reinstate the Draft
steveorino replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
Bull crap. My dad was an eigth grade drop out in rural KY. After WW2 he got his GED, then college degree. He was home builder. he was home most of the time. I too put myself through college, working 2-3 sometimes 4 jobs. I was home more than the average dad. Coached all the kids sports and took them camping, skiing, etc. I taught them you can make something of your life without others giving it to you. steveOrino -

How'd that work in Korea and Viet Nam? In VietNam the well connected found ways of getting around it, like finding their kids a billet in the NG. My point exactly. It had little effect on the rich and powerful steveOrino
