Student arrested for following directions on assignment.
NCclimber replied to grue's topic in Speakers Corner
Does he deserve a criminal record for it? No, he does not. I do think they overreacted. But I also have no doubt he is a punk and will get a record on his own some day. You seem pretty sure about this guy's motivations and general character. Straight A student... following directions.... I can see how you reached your conclusions. -
Documentary filmmaker claims PBS shows bias
NCclimber replied to NCclimber's topic in Speakers Corner
Sorry about that. Based on past interactions and your claim that the film would make most conservatives bungholes shrink, I took it as a backhanded compliment. All in all, I think PBS is very even handed. The programming is top notch. The topic of this thread is about the PBS people at WETA, who I don't consider representative of all PBS stations. While I think PBS is fair, objective and worthy of praise, NPR seems quite biased. -

You just can't help yourself, can you? -
Tim McVeigh was in the US 1st Infantry Division during the Reagan-Bush years. So using your logic, George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan were terrorists. Ah...then shopkeepers were responsible for Dunblane... or was it the Scouts? Nice strawman, BTW... So you agree that your logic is idiotic. Fine. Not his logic.

Documentary filmmaker claims PBS shows bias

If your film leans the same way as the people at PBS, why is there any reason to think you'd be challenged on ideological issues? There's not a lot of criticism when you're preaching to the choir. Did the people at WETA have direct control over your film? What in the film "would mak most conservatives bunghole shrink"? Is it overt propaganda? Or do you think that most conservatives are have an aversion to fair, objective stories? -
You mean people like Tim Russert? Robert MacNeil? Andrea Mitchell? Diane Sawyer? George Stephanopoulos? Cokie Roberts? Yeah. They're a bunch of slackers. Does Stewart ever appear on news programs, outside of his controlled environment, where he can't control the discussion or rely on his writers?

How fair do you think it would be if, say, Iran set out the parameters for elections in the UK, and armed Iranian troops were standing around in the streets of London during the elections? If voters in the UK were intimidated from voting with threats of violence, and the presence of Iranian troops was a viable way to protect those voters, I'd support it. Of course, that's pretty silly.... as is your analogy. Right, I forgot to add that the Iranians were an uninvited invading force. Which takes back to... LOL

Not quite. Hyperbole for the purpose of sarcasm? Talk about beating a dead horse. You are right.. I incorrectly counted four of the eight as Republicans. You've clearly shown it's five of the eight. -

my hippie parents have claimed a right wing bias at PBS for decades due to the primary funding sources. The CPB funds about 10% of NPR's budget. -

Not quite. -
Moyers was on the Tavis Smiley Show to talk about this program. His parting statement. "Thank you, Tavis. And my guest on Friday night, by the way, will be Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show" because I think he's one of the most significant analysts of the news and information of our time." Classic.

Hey tis good enough propaganda for PRAVDA-FOX.. since their newspeak of FAIR and Balanced means toeing the party line...if you aint with em U must be a leftieCommie Terrorist... agin em. Its only BAD bias when its left of the Ultra Right Real fair and balanced in the mainstream middle is seen as leftie bias. What does Fox have to do with this? I found the story on the Canadian Embassy website. Quade, It was an interview. They tend to be one-sided. -

What about this one:

That's right... Bush is a Fascist. Cheney was behind the 9/11 attacks. People in the White House are hoping for another 9/11 type attack, so they can declare Martial Law. Not to be confused w/ Marshall Law All of our civil rights are being destroyed by the current administration. Bush stole the 2000 election. Bush and Cheney only care about helping their oil industry pals get rich. The government blocks national press organizations from printing stories. How do I know these things? Posters on this site said so. I almost forgot - Bush hates black people.

Yep. We expect to hold other world leaders accountable for their actions. We should expect our own to be equally scrutinized. Do "shades of grey" or "don't throw the baby out with the bath water" mean anything to you?
-
Precipitator? The only definition I could find involved a dust/particle/smoke filter. Seems apt... and complimentary. I like to think of it as "Calling Bullshit where it's warranted".

Thanks for being thorough in your critique. It makes it easier to point out the first five words of my post.

I like that idea. Congress should just hop on the ICC bandwagon and let the international community give him the Milosevic treatment. The really scary part is a lot of people actually favor doing this. I think it's important to lead by example. If we're going to hold other countries accountable for war crimes, crimes against humanity, etc., then we should police our own. Otherwise you are perceived as a hypocrite imperialist whose actions may spawn a "terrorist" response. Same thing goes for exporting "democracy". Ours is still in the beta stage. The problem with sending him to a criminal court would be that we'd have to pay reparations, and we certainly can't afford to do that AND keep our military industrial complex living in the manner in which it's become accustomed. Does your post have anything to do with carting him off to the Hague?
-
And this has to do with the content of the post how? Or is this just a knee jerk reaction by someone who has no idea what the program was about? It's pretty lame to slam the content when you don't even know what it is or what he's talking about. C'mon, you're missing a perfect opportunity to rant on the inadequacy of the "liberal" media. If you were to take that route I'd join in the bash fest with you! Don't you just hate it when posters go off tangent with kneejerk nonsense? Especially when they confuse the issue with half truths?

Are you saying weather forecasters get it wrong on the same frequency as two pack a day smokers live to age 85? I didn't know 25 percent of two pack a day smokers live to age 85.
