  1. For almost 30 years, Nazi groups in the US have been practically invisible. They're a non-issue. Can the same be said for Germany?
  2. Try Googling "April Glaspie" if you think we stopped talking to Saddam. I'm guessing that involved extenuating circumstances, outside the parameters of normal diplomatic relations.
  3. I guess I wasn't actually giving a reason to ignore the issue. I was giving a good reason to ignore television. But now that I'm thinking about it, I guess I really don't have a problem with allowing profanity on TV. Maybe it will get so bad that people quit watching it or parents may start paying attention to what their kids are watching and lock the most offensive channels. Then the advertisers, not some appointed government political "decider", will crack down and force broadcasters to change their content. Hell, shit, fuck. Bring it on. How much television do your children watch?
  4. I was basing my statement on the CDCs Physician's Handbook on Medical Certification of Death. Sorry if I was wrong about that.
  5. You seem to be holding a particularly vicious grudge against the "average German". The war has been over for 60+ years. The Germans surrended and agreed to abide by the rules of the conquering forces. The nations of the world have made a concerted effort to root out and prosecute any surviving war criminals. The world has moved on. Why does it seem you haven't? What's your beef, here in 2007?
  6. I'd still like someone to show the similarities between present-day US and June 1939 Germany. You know... a direct comparison between actual circumstances in the presentday U.S., to Germany in 1939. Cue Monty Python voices - Run away, silly moonbats! Run away!
  7. Go back and read my message #8. kallend often refuses to state his position, so that he won't have to expend energy to defend it. He prefers to lay low and attack others. Surely you jest?
  8. If you say so. Did you know the Federal Government blocked the NYT from publishing an article by Flynt Leverett (which is not to be confused with Mr. Leverett's former employer execising it's non-disclosure authority)... or that Colin Powell tried to coverup the My Lai massacre... or that opponents of a referendum to raise minimum wage in Florida claimed hundreds of thousands of jobs would lost if the effort passed. Not directly. Your follow up to "Everyone knows that kids emulate what they see on TV, and that's bad enough already" was to counter with an alternate example, followed by "Why blame TV?" So you weren't dismissing/discounting the impact of TV on kids? . Do you think people are actually taken in by your "debating" style. I prefer to support claims of twisting the facts with actual examples. Sorry you seem to find that so unsettling. I can understand why.
  9. No. Just a list of people, where the consensus opinion is their exposure to ETS was a primary factor in their death. BTW The cause of death section on most death certificates asks for information on the deceased person's smoking history.
  10. No doubt there are a number problems with network television. But just because some are worse, I don't see that as a good reason for discounting/ignoring this issue.
  11. DUDE... that site is SOOO not on the right wing approved media sources list Every once in a while I'll come across a site like that, with a catchy name. One that sticks out is People for the American Way (like feeding on tax dollars is the American Way). Fairly quickly, I see shit that just isn't right. And like that, I'm outta there. It kind of reminds me of the time back in college, when some friends and I went into what we thought was just a normal bar... that is until we saw posters of man on man sex. Outta there.
  12. Silly me, I thought discussion was about what is and is not appropriate on TV.
  13. So pointing out an inconvenient double standard is just a "red herring". OK. If you say so. Your memory must be failing. It was you that wrote that, just a few posts back.. I wrote "So pointing out an inconvenient double standard is just a "red herring". OK", just a few posts back? Which post are you talking about? And just so your up to speed, my quip about red herring was made because you used of former German scientist, that we inherited, when the discussion was about people leaving their home country to fight for the enemy.
  14. Hmm Getting back on track - it doesn't matter if people think kids shouldn't watch TV or whether kids are exposed to negative influences elsewhere, it's pretty much a given that what kids see on TV (and a lot of kids watch a lot of TV) has an influence on them.
  15. so, which is it? "the biggest achievement in their lives"? or "really, who gives a shit?"
  16. So you're in favor of having words like "fuck" and "shit" be commonplace on prime-time kiddie TV shows? Interesting way to twist words around. I don't believe I wrote anything at all to suggest that. Your post was a response to: Not really much of a twist when you back up a post or two, eh perfesser?
  17. THAT depends on how useful they would be. The USA welcomed Wernher von Braun with open arms and he was responsible for killing a whole lot of Allied civilians and servicemen. Red Herring is not on today's menu. So pointing out an inconvenient double standard is just a "red herring". OK. If you say so.
  18. I think you are mistaken. From the Washington Post:
  19. There must be a good trade in the special stores for those NEO-CON Blinders..... and with just a little effort they put the fingers in the ears...... and going NANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANANA And all those troublesome issues seem to go away. Or perhaps the moonbats are relying on rank emotionalism, instead of responding to specific questions about similarities. Doing so might expose the silliness of their claims. Move along folks. Nothing to see here. The US is quickly becoming a fascist state. Believe me... I know.
  20. Third hand hearsay, that has been refuted by people present when Bush allegedly made that claim. I believe it.
  21. I've read before and I scanned it this time. It sure does sound a lot like the US in the 1940s. How'd that play out? It's pretty easy to make general comparisons when you overlook the magnitude of such comparisons. I have a mild cold right now. You know... sore throat, runny nose. Technically, I'm ailing... and so are people infected with HIV, but trying equate the two as being similar would be offensive and just plain stupid. What has occurred in the US that is on par with "Operation Hummingbird", the Nuremberg Rallies or the Kristallnacht?
  22. So which groups have been purged in the US? Bush has been in the White House for almost six and a half years. How does the current climate compare to the six and a half year mark of Hilter's tenure? I'd really like someone to show the similarities between present-day US and June 1939 Germany.
  23. Mohammed dropped 3 places in 2005, it's now #23 in the UK. It's predicted to move up to first place by years end. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=070606062208.yii0bwst&show_article=1
  24. So it's okay for moderators to troll. Good to know.
