  1. Chalk up NCclimber to those who cannot grasp the distinction. Since you seem to think you're so smart, how about you explaining to me. Can you honestly not see why it is arrogant to state that earth is the only planet to have life, when the only planets we have ever investigated (and not very well at that) are the ones in our own solar system? Do you honestly not see why it is arrogant to discount the trillions of other planets out their that we haven't been able to investigate? Was that an explanation of the distinction you mentioned? I must have missed it... what... with all those questions and such.

  3. That sounds like sleaze... or absue of power. What's your definition of cowardice? IMO it's illustrated nicely by the Knights of the Round Table screaming "run away, run away" as they flee from catapulted livestock.
  4. And some around here are in a class by themselves.
  5. Oh. It that how you interpreted the OP and how this discussion has played out.... Royd on one side and everyone else in opposition? What other planets are capable of sustaining life?
  6. As opposed to the "Holier than Christians" mantle that most athiests wrap themselves in? How can that be? It's well known that atheists have no moral values, and hence no sense of "holiness" Vale Smug self-righteousness would probably be more fitting.
  7. Which is 3x as much as spent on health and education combined. (Clicky added) Not true. HHS and Social Security (i.e. entitlements) are more than double than what is spent on defense. Here's a chart, and a link. I didn't write "Social Security" or "entitlements", did I? I wrote "health and education". So get it right. Okay, if you look at the budget for HHS alone, it is still significantly larger than defense. If you throw in the budget for education, the gap obviously increases. A large portion of the VAs budget is spent on health care, so again, that widens the gap further still. HHS is more than "health", isn't it? A large portion of the VA's budget is allocated to caring for bodies broken in the military. But you know that. The cost of long term care for wounded Iraq war veterans may well exceed the direct costs of the war. Oh great. Let's try and confuse the matter a bit. I pointed out on page one that your claim of military spending being 3x more than what is spent on health and education was just plain wrong. Considering health and education spending makes up 27% of the budget, your claim is impossible. I notice you didn't reply to that post.
  8. Hey don't worry about it, it's all borrowed anyway. It's your kids who'll have to pay for it, right? Did you come up with that all by yourself?
  9. What a lovely commentary by the leading Global Warning Chicken Little Hysteric a.k.a. CLH. What does it have to do with your claim of our system of government being based on cowardice? I get the feeling you think it means something different from what it actually means.
  10. Who was pratically unknown outside of Denmark before Fall 2001. If a tree falls in the forest, but no one hears it... Very xenophobic comment. Science does take place outside the USA. Very xenophobic comment? Do you even know what that means? Or is that irrelevant and your primary intent is just to try and discount my post without actually addressing it? Is this another supposed use of set theory?
  11. By your standards, so was D-day Since you seem to have forgotten, on 6th June 1944 a war was already in full swing and had been for some time. (Reversing Iraq argument) Germany never invaded us and they had no connection to the Japanese or Pearl Harbor. Forgetful today? Germany declared war on the USA in December 1941. And so we attacked them 3 1/2 years later??? Saddam tried to assassinate the POTUS. Declaration of War .... assassination attempt on the Pres Six... a half dozen.
  12. Joe Klein seems to think the lefties are particularly hostile. http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1630004,00.html Such open-mindedness is inspiring.
  13. Easy - Just the same way you do with kids. Should we apply the same rationale to all funding sent to Africa?
  14. But has love ever averted war?
  15. We should have adopted this way of thinking 60 years ago.
  16. I'd avoid statements like: "Can't you just fuck off already?"
  17. A sampling of Kallend's replies to me, today: Followed, after a warning by Billvon, with: I'm sure Kallend's statement wasn't directed at anyone particular.
  18. I'm not sure why people are giving rush a free pass on his bad math. Last year's budget wasn't 10 trillion dollars. Or remotely close. So the 5% claim is a load of crap. But putting that aside, no other major power has been engaged in a war for the year. A considerable chunk of that 528B is Iraq related. And removing that consideration, the US is still the runaway leader, but #2, #3, #5, #6, #8, and #9 have all benefitted from the US nuclear and conventional umbrella since WW2. And Congress fiddled while...
  19. so the best you can do is jump on the fact that Kallend said debt rather than deficit? Not at all. I just get tired of dishonest representations... especially when the honest ones are so damning. How was that "surplus" used? Funny how the debt rose every one of those years of "surplus". BTW I thought the fiscal responsibility exercised in Clinton's last term was impressive. I agree. Doing so would put a dent in his claim that we are "running up the debt faster than ever before." Why? I've never defended the current administrations spending. Actually the Republicans trounce the Dems when it comes to bringing home the bacon. Neither party has any claims to fiscal conservatism.

  21. Which is 3x as much as spent on health and education combined. (Clicky added) So, less than 14% of the federal budget is spent on health and education? I thought it was closer to 27%, with another 10.79% for welfare and unemployment.
  22. We currently have a system of government based on cowardice?
