  3. Damn, Mad John. This really sucks. Liz sent me an e-mail last week about his condition. Bob was a good guy, a good jumper and a good friend. I'm so glad he joined us in Nicaragua. Fly free my friend, a LOT of people will miss you...

  5. I just thought about MSB yesterday. I spent many nights at the old Agora in Youngstown and Blossom in Cleveland watching them. They should have been WAY more national of a band.
  6. Hi guys, The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce is putting together a 125 year book for the city. They want to chronicle the jumping history at the airport over the years. If you guys have any photos of back in the day, and stories, let me know. Thanks! Rich DZO at Oceanside www.tsunamiskydivers.com

  9. Tsunami Skydivers is hosting $20 days this Thursday and Friday. aug. 9-10th RW and freefly organizers $20 jumps to 13,000 BBQ friday night. www.tsunamiskydivers.com
  10. Balloon pilots in the Del Mar area of San Diego County have been sued and are involved in court action due to landing in "open areas". Property owners tired of their land being trampled by the passenegers and balloon crews. Nothing worse than broken wine bottles and empty cheese tins in your flattened garden. Back to Perris...
  11. yes, but there are plenty of angry, anxious Liberals who think Mittens may win, too. Good point...everyone is worried Mittens will win then
  12. Some airports do a permit for commercial operators. It may list things like the PLA, operational and other items for the company to follow. If these items aren't followed the permit may be revoked. Some airports address these items in a lease. News articles usually end up being "he said, she said" types of deals for a DZ. Having unkown skydivers e-mail city hall and FAA types is not really a good idea. You have no control over what is being said. Also, if a Part 13 or 16 process is started, you don't want outside people involved giving any information, true or false, that could impact the outcome. Leave that to the DZO and the attorney handling it. IMHO
  13. It seems to me there are a lot of pissed of Conservatives at the moment. The thought of a black, Kenyan, Muslim, Socialist in the White House is really making them mad. Add in a dose of Mitt Romney as their great white hope, is making them even more mad...
  14. The "free bag" should be renamed the "expensive bag", since they get lost so often

We now have the dispatch center on speed dial. The guy that called 911 was almost pissed no one died wanker. So I owe beer
  17. Haha, we were doing that at the blue hole fo years, sort of Good stuff!!
  18. Most of your assumptions about how an airport is governed and what an airport sponsor may or may not do are wrong. Courts won't hear access issues until an administrative process with the FAA has been conducted. Unless there is proof that the sponsor is violating their own city code, a state court injunction won't mean anything. Unless the sponsor is illegally discriminating against an operator under constitutional equal protection rights, a federal court filing is useless. Sponsors have rights under the airport compliance manual to run the airport within a broad spectrum of control. The FAA rarely gets involved unless a Part 13 and then Part 16 have been conducted with the ADO. It's also nearly impossible to sue for monetary damaages as a result of a sponsor's actions against an operator. Even with all of the rules in skydiving's favor in the 5190.6b, we still face insurmountable odds sometimes, as a sponsor can drag things out for years. The only way to resolve these issues is with a good attorney, USPA's guidance and unfortunately a lot of $$$$ and patience. I can assure you that e-mailing the newspaper, city council and the mayor and most of all folks like Kevin Willis, who is the head of the FAA ACO-100 group will only serve to hit the bee hive. When I finally prevailed over a sponsor for access I hired a land use attorney and an aviation attorney. They didn't tell the sponsor anything I hadn't for two years. What they knew however was the legal actions we could take against the sponsor and the ramifications that it would create. Each access denial is slightly different and requires a well thought out game plan.
  19. You need to hire a good attorney. I'm sure you have spoken with Randy Ottinger at USPA. He'll point you in the right direction. 30,000 skydivers can write letters to a city or airport authority and they will just throw them away. One good lawyer letter will make them crumble...
  20. The floor of the DC-3's...ewwww
  21. Beach jumps, August 30th to kick off the boogie! C and D license holders. You must e-mail your USPA card and drivers license before Aug. 15. Tsunamiskydivers@gmail.com One jump from 4,500ft over the Oceanside Harbor Beach!
  22. Take a sunset drive over the Golden Gate to Sausalito. It's a great little town with a nice view of the city. Lots of good eats too.
  23. The good ol' boy network called the NCAA is a joke. Punishing the current players for crimes they had nothing to do with is like beating your youngest kid for all of the bad crap the older kid did. The NCAA is supposed to be there to monitor the programs and the student athlete to ensure a proper environment and see that recruiting and operational rules are followed. Reggie Bush got a house and a car, so kids that were in 5th grade when that happened get punished at USC. Fine the school, fire the AD, but let the current kids play in Bowl games. IMHO
  24. My uncle was an early pioneer in computer geekdom for IBM in the '60s. He helped design the Apollo guidance systems. We visited my aunt and uncle in Huntsville and got to go out to the Redstone Arsenal to see the assembled rockets before they were shipped to Florida for launch. He knew most of the astronauts, which to me was the coolest thing ever. One year all of his geek pals gathered at the house with this giant telescope to track a mission. We were there visiting and they explained all sorts of techinical mumbo jumbo to me, a then 10 year old. Those guys loved being a part of the program. And yes, they all had pocket protectors in their shirts
