Longmont City Council will take up skydiving noise
grimmie replied to stratostar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
"To be clear, Mile-Hi operates a local recreation business; a carnival ride that happen to utilize airplanes. There is no reason why a local government should be prevented from regulating or controlling this local business." I made it to page 14. When I read this I started laughing out loud. Did you know the FAA now has Part 1100 that governs roller coasters and Part 1101 that governs dunking booths? This is directly from the FAA Advisory Circular 150/190-7 Titled; Minimum Standards for Commercial Aeronautical Activities. f. Skydiving. Skydiving is an aeronautical activity. Any restriction, limitation, or ban on skydiving on the airport must be based on the grant assurance that provides that the airport sponsor may prohibit or limit aeronautical use for the safe operation of the airport (subject to FAA approval). The following questions present reasonable factors the sponsor might contemplate when developing minimum standards that apply to skydiving: (1) Will this activity present or create a safety hazard to the normal operations of aircraft arriving or departing from the airport? If so, has the local Airports District Office (ADO) or the Regional Airports Office been contacted and have those FAA offices sought the assistance from FAA Flight Standards (FS) and Air Traffic (AT) to assess whether safe airport operations would be jeopardized? (2) Can skydiving operations be safely accommodated at the airport? Can a drop zone be safely established within the boundaries of the airport? Is guidance in FAA AC-90-66A Recommended Standards Traffic Patterns and Practices for Aeronautical Operations at Airports Without Operating Control Towers, 14 CFR Part 105 and United States Parachute Association’s (USPA) Basic Safety Requirements being followed? (3) What reasonable time periods can be designated for jumping in a manner consistent with Part 105? What experience requirements are needed for an on-airport drop zone? (4) What is a reasonable fee that the jumpers and/or their organizations can pay for the privilege of using airport property? (5) Has the relevant air traffic control facility been advised of the proposed parachute operation? Does the air traffic control facility have concerns about the efficiency and utility of the airport and its related instrument procedures? (6) Will it be necessary to determine the impact of the proposed activity on the efficiency and utility of the airport, related instrument approaches or nearby Instrument Flight Rules (IFR)? If so, has FAA Air Traffic reviewed the matter and issued a finding? -

So letting all of those Marines die on his watch and selling arms to our enemy to fund an illegal war was A-OK, as long as there was economic growth. Oh, and letting in 3 million illegals. Got it. Check.

Skydiving needs all of the promotion it can get. The Red Bull Air Force brings in a lot of customers to a DZ near you. Rich, skydiving has been trying to go mainstream for years. I don’t think it fits. But then I am old school. We flew the Red Bull Airforce into the Miramar Airshow a few years ago. The next three weekends saw an increase in tandems at the DZ. Any positive exposure people have to jumpers leads to more advertising for the sport.

You are forgetting about Ronald Reagan. Marines killed in Beirut under his watch. One investigation and solutions to keep it from happening again. Forget the fact about his illegal gun running to Iran to fund more illegal gun running to his "freedom fighters" in Central America. Or GWB, who lied us all into a war that lead to thousands of innocent people dead. Of course this was after the worst attack on American soil, that had one investigation. And add in Hurricane Katrina and that utter failed response for our own citizens. But keep worrying about the Kenyan Muslim Obummer...
-
You left out getting demo insurance and a ground crew that can keep the spectators safely away from the LZ.
-
He always brightened the DZ when he arrived. Sigh...

Sure, because they are sensational. They get the ratings. They get people's attention. Again, the "We have to do something!" call to arms (see what I did there?). What do you want to do? What can be done that will reduce already smaller numbers to even smaller numbers without large impacts on the 2nd amendment? The low hanging fruit is gone. Derek V Mass shootings don't get attention? What do I want to do? Read my post again.

Statistics are great, right up until you become one. As a nation we keep sticking our heads in the sand over gun violence. It's time to gather law enforcement, the NRA, Congress, Governors, prosecutors gun dealers, mental health professionals and others with something positive to add and hold a national summit on how to help prevent gun violence. We work to keep people alive and help prevent all of these... Heart disease: 611,105 Cancer: 584,881 Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 149,205 Accidents (unintentional injuries): 130,557 Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 128,978 They are followed by Alzheimer’s, diabetes, pneumonia and flu, and kidney disease. Next is suicide, the only leading cause of death that might be considered violent But do nothing about gun violence. Yet everyone lost their minds when "Ebola" and "Target bathrooms".

Arguments for (or against) the existence of God
grimmie replied to scottbre's topic in Speakers Corner
Satan is the spiritual power causing the maladies. He hates a dedicated saint and will do anything to stop their work. Haiti is the principle western country practicing Vodou. So god isn't more powerful than satan? Got it.. -
Arguments for (or against) the existence of God

This is from the "Can't make this shit up" file. This was on a friend of mine's facebook page. Her and her husband run a church in Puerto Rico. After I read this today, I could only conclude that if there is a God, it is one sick and twisted entity. This is Bob and Mary Johnston. Dear Missionary Friends of ours for 17 years years. Bob and Mary served in Haiti until she was accosted while a gang member held a gun to her then young son's head forcing him to watch. Right after that, they moved to the other side of the island, to the Dominican Republic. They planted their roots there and started a ministry to the Haitians. After that, Bob was struck by lightening. Then he and Mary were hijacked while on a flight back to the states. Bob had cancer twice. Mary was diagnosed with Leukemia 3 years ago and is now in remission. Their young son, who was forced to watch Mary be accosted came back to the States when he turned 18, was in a serious car accident and is now a quadriplegic. Bob brought her back to the States every 6 months to get her blood checked. While driving in Missouri last week, traffic abruptly stopped on the highway they were on. Bob rear-ended the vehicle in front of him. They were in a 1968 Dodge Dart. A semi then rear ended Bob and Mary sending the vehicle into the air, it rolled over, pinning Bob and killed him instantly. My children, Bill and myself are heartbroken for this couple. They have a large mission to the Haitian refugees and run a Bible school. When I spoke to Mary a few days ago, she said, "Karen, I'm headed back. I'll see you soon." After I hung up I told my husband what she said. This is their life's motto. They were called and they've answered the call...no matter what came their way. Please stop and pray for Mary as she is faced with running this dynamic mission alone. -
Blues/Sharks vs Pens/Bolts Who drinks from the Cup. (Besides Nyquist the horse!)

The crash today at Lodi should reinforce two things. Seat belts and helmets ON! A great job by the pilot also. Nothing like the spinny thing stopping at 1,000 feet.

If you needed more proof that George Zimmerman is scum

I know this might be a shock to you. Usually, when someone gets shot, rightfully or wrongfully, there is a trial. -

Zimmerman would make a fantastic VP pick for Trump. -
No. I am saying that even though skydive helmets aren't certified by anyone, however they still do a pretty good job in the event of a mishap.

Living On A Drop Zone Full Time
grimmie replied to lpeter757's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Avoid the drugs. Avoid the dating drama. Have a job. Help the DZO and staff anytime with anything you can. Shower once in a while and brush your teeth. Don't tell the pilot how to fly the plane. Pay your rent on time. Have fun! -
I hear this argument all the time about skydive helmets. "They aren't rated and meet no standards." After patching up a LOT of seriously wrecked skydivers over the past 26 years, here is my non scientific, personal observation take on helmets. I have seen helmets take a huge impact with the ground. Forces not unlike a motorcycle crash. A helmet offers you a great deal of protection, both in and out of the plane. They have saved many jumpers that have been involved in some serious contact with the earth. In a crash they will offer you FAR greater protection on than off.

I'll make a prediction. If Clinton wins, the hate spewed at her by Fox News, AM radio blowhards and the right wing click bait fringe websites will be off the charts. It will make what they have done to Obama the past 8 years look like child's play.

Not wearing your helmet on take off is a bad idea. And those that clip a regular non video/still set up helmet to their seat belt is a very, very bad idea. I have been in a couple of situations over the years where we had to return to land due to an in flight emergency or wind/dust devil scratching the flight. The first thing the couple of jumpers did, with helmets attached to a seat belt did was...take their seat belt off to get their helmet on. If the spinny things stop and you unbuckle to get your lid, you and your helmet will become a missile at impact or hard landing. And if you are returning to the DZ in a full jump plane, the landing most likely will be brisk and hard. None of us are too cool to not buckle up the brain buckets on take off for a thousand feet or so. IMHO.
