And about the PM's explaining why I support the USPA. Since I don't hide anonymously, most everyone here knows that I received support (none financially) from the USPA to open a drop zone. Everyone here also knows I help other USPA members with all sorts of questions when they are trying to start a DZ. Or to keep their DZ from being booted off of an airport. I was a also a guest speaker at the last DZO conference. That presentation was to help DZOs prepare for emergencies. I think that being a part of this organization for 26 years has shown me one thing. You can either be part of the problem or part of the solution. So yes, while I have disagreed over the years with some things that have been done, I usually wrote to my regional director, or to the BOD and voiced my concerns. So please explain again why you are so upset that the USPA is ensuring all tandem instructors are properly rated?

First of all, show me where Ed Scott lied to the media after the Lodi incident. In direct quotes please. Second of all. Your grasp of the USPA and it's interaction with the FAA and FAI seem limited. Show me a country that has a large skydiving community that doesn't have an organization governing the sport. And when you visit that country, you usually have to join their association to jump. Every single week, across America, licensed skydivers and certain DZOs at group member and non group member drop zones step in great big piles of dog crap that the USPA has to collectively remove. EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK. The USPA does a great job of getting us access to airports and keeping us jumping at established airports. The USPA does a great job responding to incidents to keep the FAA at bay. The USPA does a great job of being proactive in the aviation community. Without the USPA third party insurance, there would be about 2 or 3 drop zones operating on publicly owned airports. I, like MANY long time jumpers, have taken issue with things the BOD or others at USPA have done over the years. However, making sure everyone has a valid, current tandem rating isn't one of them.

Twin engine=double dollars+pilot issues=stick with a single engine. They are great fun to jump out of. We use the military one in Belize once in a while. However it is a Defender model. A good climber with 6 or 7 on board to about 10,ooo feet, but then it is a very slow boat to 12.5.

Since you are an instructor, I assume you have received the "USPA Professional" e-mail that explains everything that is going regarding tandem instructor ratings. If you think something nefarious is going on after reading it, you're the confused one.

This isn't a "witch hunt". The USPA is confirming that all of the instructors meet the FAR 105.45 requirements. The facts are presenting clear answers.

This weekend was the Skydive Perris 40th anniversary of the Conatser family's ownership. The DZ was packed all weekend. DC-3 loads, Beech 18 loads, Otters, Skyvans and vintage aircraft rides. The parties were outstanding and the legends of our sport were out in force. It was great watching newer jumpers fly in the 3. I spent time with Pat Works, Al Krueger and Jerry Swovelin and many others, listening to how they saved the DZ from lawyers way back in the day, and other great stories of old. Bennie Conatser told the story of how it all began. It was a "Who's Who" of legendary jumpers in attendance and the DZ provided free booze and great food to hundreds of jumpers. It was pretty awesome for all of us old farts to get together and make some leaps and tell No Shit stories. My side still hurts from laughing. A T-6 had a minor crash on Saturday when it encountered a dust devil on landing. That was crazy to watch, but the pilot pulled it off and ended up nosing it over. Old time jumper Dave Dolak was on board for the ride. I think he is still cleaning his shorts! There is a rumor that the jet could be back in action by next year's Nationals. I was at the last DZO conference as a speaker on drop zone emergency planning and management. James LaBarrie was also there to speak on marketing. Tom Noonan spoke about tandem issues and Bryan Burke spoke about trending skydiving issues. After our presentations there was a long open forum on all sorts of topics from DZ issues, marketing strategy, FAA issues, etc. It seemed that most DZs were up in their tandem sales.
