  1. Agreed. That being said I will go straight to silver if we get out anywhere below 2k. I think reserves are designed to open in like 500' or something like that. Not sure on the exact numbers, but I used one of my jumps at Skyfest this year to test jump a PD-176 as my main. I have video that proves it came out in less than 200 feet. Oh and that was on a hop-n-pop that I gave about half a sec and then threw. That thing came out fast, on heading and butter smooth. Those guys from PD knew their shit and made me feel real comfortable. I'm very happy to have a PD-176 in my container.
  2. That is exactly how to get one to spin up. Keep doing that and you'll be under line twists, even at those lower wing loadings. I actually like to pull high sometimes, a.k.a. a high hop-n-pop at 14k and play with things like this.
  3. Absolutely! Oh and be stable doing it too.
  4. Actually, I think the spirals in the context of this thread at the very least should be NO, NO's in the traffic area, period! That's what the play ground is for! Let me qualify that when I say spirals, I'm talking about the context of this thread, not a high performance setup!!
  5. You're missing the point. You're still opening at 2500 when you should be opening at 3000. I cannot agree more. When I was a student, I was not allowed, ever, to pull below 4000. I moved down to 3500 and eventually to 3000, but have no hesitation whatsoever about bumping that up again if I'm doing anything new. My first pack job, pull at 4000. My first 2 way, break off at 4500 and pull at 4000. First jump after breaking for the winter, pull at 4500. Extra altitude is your friend! Your speaking the gospel my friend! Besides, you can always burn extra alti once the canopy is open by just spinning a little. Heck, I actually like to spin my canopy! I think you mean you like to spiral your canopy... Personally I like to do barrel rolls with mine on the way down... I should post that video.
  6. I have reasons for asking this, i.e. I want to print it out. Is that posted somewhere on line? BK PS. I am still looking for it... The version of the Group Membership Manual that's currently posted on the USPA web site does not include the revised version of the pledge, however, USPA board meeting notes state that the pledge that Group Members signed this year (2008) would include the language. Until there's an updated version publicly available, though, it's hard to go to a DZO and ask "are you following this?" http://www.uspa.org/publications/manuals.pdf/gmmanual.sec1.pdf (see page 3) http://www.uspa.org/contact/BODminutes/BODMinutes0807.pdf (see page 14) Thanks Krisanne, I was just coming back to amend my post. I found the second one from the meeting notes. You answered directly what my next question was going to be. I do wonder even how many DZO's are even aware of this change. Bill's post was a complete surprise to me actually. BK

  8. First, this has to be one of the coolest shots I've seen in this sport. http://laszloimage.com/July_2008_NEW/pages/July_13th_08%20034.htm Second, what is that last shot? Is that a cutaway? Or another optical illusion?
  9. Right on, that will have to work.
  10. Shoot DSE an email with this thread, I'd love to see what he posts!!
  11. You guys are the best!! Seriously, I DO look forward to these and well... it's been a Monday and these have been the bright spot in it.
  12. I deploy by 3500 on terminal jumps, I just feel a lot more comfortable deploying stable between 3000 - 2500 on hop n pops. My first hop n pop (AFF9) I did a 3 second delay and the opening was so shit I nearly had a cutaway so I burn a little bit more altitude and it's working good. 15 jumps to B license, so don't get too mad Not mad at all. Sound response; however what are your pull priorities? 1. Pull 2. Pull at proper altitude 3. Pull at proper altitude with stability So based on that. If your H-n-P altitude is starting at say 3500+, as it should at the very least based on your profile, that's 5-6 seconds to get stable before you need to hit number 2. Get some coaching on how you can improve your exit so that your H-n-P's go smoother. Good luck, take care and BE SAFE!!
  13. Nice pic's. I'll PM my address to you for the beer...
  14. Oh trust me, I'm NOT bored, I'm getting killed at work today. This is my outlet though. Without this I'd lose my fckn mind!
  15. That third shot must be an AFF opening, nice shot. Of course my fav's are 1 and 2 though. Love the WS's!! Thanks for sharing, I feel like my week is off to a better start already!
  16. Not to bust your butt to hard, but right now you should be pulling by 3k my friend, if your profile is right. Here is a link to that section in the SIM. Take care, be safe!
  17. Come on ya'll, I need my weekly fix, somebody has some pic's to share from their weekend fun surely??
  18. Oh the picture on the wall in the background, that's just to funny... nicely done!!
  19. Well you helped to shape me as a skydiver, what I can say...
  20. Let's be clear here, Bill. There're some youngsters listening in. While your statement, in it's simplicity, is correct, there's more to the story that they should know. AADs do not open parachutes. They don't even open containers. AADs do not know, not do they care, whether you have opened your main or reserve. AAD operation is dependent only on detection of both altitude AND fall rate parameters. The AAD has no bearing on opening anything. It simply cuts the reserve closing loop if both fall rate and altitude parameters are met. A cut closing loop does not ensure a container opening much less a parachute opening. Hey Andy, I think your actually quoting somebody else. I actually replied to the same line you just quoted did and made more or less the same remarks that you did.
  21. Make sure to get some coached jumps and be sure that you are tracking. Track perp to the jump run your solo's, never up or down the flight line. Of course anything bigger, do what makes the most sense, normally 180 from the center of the formation. Get in the habit of that now. You can slow down while tracking too if your doing it right. Promise...
  22. yeah. but once i was down there wasnt really any pain. my ribs were actually fine. I had a fresh tattoo on my ribs but even that was relatively ok. the only "injury" i had was a strained calf due to a poor set up and crosswind landing. (tried to stand it up and run like 12 mph, actually worked too) all i had to do for that was take some ibuprofen and it was gone about an hour later. Well, in the future break higher and get a good box man going to slow it down more. I break at 5500 ish when I'm free flying and dump around 3000. Give ms plenty of me to slow down.
  23. I wouldn't think so wth that light of a wing load. IMO no way the jumper could be going fast enough to blow up a canopy. IMO the canopy had a rip in it some where, it was just missed by riggers and packers, just speculatory. I'm with you. I've dumped after a sit without slowing down properly and my altitrack said my minimum speed was 154 for that jump. I'm loading a tick over 1.2 and while it hurt like hell, my canopy did not blow up. I'm more inclined to speculate that there was already a tear and that combined with a probable higher than normal opening speed caused it to go. However a normal belly opening could do the same thing if the tear was already there and far enough along.
