Why do whuffos walk on skydiving gear?
dragon2 replied to JohnRich's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Would be nice. In the summer and with good weather, we have the tandem briefings and gear outside. But now, the gear and mock-up is on the wrong side of the hangar ciel bleu, Saskia -
Why do whuffos walk on skydiving gear?
dragon2 replied to JohnRich's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
One of my pet peeves as well. Kids to tend to listen better than adults in my experience, especially some adults with cameras don't seemt to care about anything but getting their shot, even when politely asked to not step on lines. Other related pet peeves of mine include: letting kids roam free playing with creepers, or jumping on the big mattress, that usually has gear on it, this is how my camera helmet got jumped on and no kid/parent in sight to pay for the EUR 1100 videocamera that was split in 2 . Also, kids using our big TV to watch cartoons then bigmouthing me when I put in a tandemvideo, man I wouldn't have dared to do that when I was a kid! And the parents give me glares like ""you're being mean to my kid" Also grown-ups (tandem family) using said TV to watch soccer/skating/racing and sometimes almost get violent when you put in a tandemvid, what's up with that. Seems like it's a general attitude problem. "I'm the customer here so I/my entire family should be able to do anything I want here as I'm paying for it". Hmz. ciel bleu, Saskia -

For CRW the bridle is string (usually dacron), so it can pass through all the rings easily. The pin is "free" this way though, you push it up against a knot on the bridle. Not seeing the advantage of a bridle like that for normal freefall jumping. Also, collapsible pilotchute bridles don't seem possible with a round design, at least they seem impossible to me. ciel bleu, Saskia

-Branched Castrodavid's discussion on swooping
dragon2 replied to castrodavidd's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
photo of said spool post impact No need for a photo, just picture a pile of wood that has no resemblance to a giant spool. But but but hitting that spool so wasn't the jumper's fault, they just put it way to close to the landing area and it suddenly popped up. Oh. Wait.... @OP: Dude, most people here probably couldn't care less if you hurt yourself, making those humongously stupid choices. Well, unless they are the ones who have to clean up after you, so I'm guessing everyone here is hoping you do not show up at their particular DZ. But if you ever EVER make someone else get hurt, even if they "just" had to avoid you under canopy and get hurt by that, that's going to change very very quickly. In that case, you might want to consider if you can run as fast as you can downsize ciel bleu, Saskia -

This time, yes, it's for both sexes. There was a girls-only course last weekend but some guys just kept on begging ciel bleu, Saskia

You're just jealous ciel bleu, Saskia

We have a special course you don't have at your DZ!!!!!! If anyone's interested, it's march 12th ciel bleu, Saskia

We had one of those Foils at my DZ until a couple years back, see attached pic. That reefing system sure caused a lot of cutaways ciel bleu, Saskia

What is it called when...and is it legal?
dragon2 replied to zf15z's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Unless it's a tandem mr bill, in which case you need some jump numbers but the enthusiasm suddenly seems to be proportional to your passenger's body type ciel bleu, Saskia -
Who did the measuring for the suit? Edit: If i read you right you measured it yourself? Then I'm afraid you just found out you should NOT do that... ciel bleu, Saskia

So what happens if the canopy does not pass inspection, or needs work? Does the buyer still have to pay for the inspection if he doesn't buy the canopy? ciel bleu, Saskia

Reminds me of a play we had a few years back: only master riggers would be allowed to sell 2nd hand gear in The Netherlands. Luckily, this didn't pass. ciel bleu, Saskia

What's the latest on First Swoop Canopies?
dragon2 replied to mbondvegas's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I wouldn't get a pilot for swooping purposes, and a safire 2 may or may not work for you. The sabre2 is really good for learning to swoop. If you liked it except for the openings, you might give the fusion a try. Or maybe just another sabre2, as there's some differences between sabre2s in how they open. ciel bleu, Saskia -
Um, so? The whole problem with OIS is that it moves even when turned off. EIS you can turn off if you need to. OIS, for skydiving purposes, not. ciel bleu, Saskia

I'd forget about the solo. Haven't jumped a navigator but got the impression it's sort of the student version of the silhouette, don't know if that's correct. Anyway I'd go for the silhouette. Too bad the pulse and sabre2 only go to 260. ciel bleu, Saskia

Why the photo camera on top? If you put 2 quickreleases on a FTP and put a videocamera on one and put a stills camera on the front mount, you have your desired setup. Make sure you route the stills switch and 2 cam-eyes in the helmet. Now, clicking on a 2nd videocamera or a flash in a bracket or rotating the front mount only takes a few seconds. Edit: or you can click on a stuffed Co-Pilot ciel bleu, Saskia

Meh, you're not a wingsuit instructor, so you don't know jack. Wait. Oh. ciel bleu, Saskia

7 Cell vs 9 Cell for Beginner
dragon2 replied to jcolborn48's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And you would be thinking wrong. The first ram-air canopy on the market was the Para-Plane ( now commonly referred to as the 'baby' Para-Plane ) was a 7-cell. Just to keep it factual, JerryBaumchen might have been wrong there, but there WERE 5-cell reserves out at some time.. right!? I actually just bought one last month (hey, it was cheap). ciel bleu, Saskia -
Pfffffff you probably need to grow a thicker skin if you want to stay jumping. Maybe especially as a girl. I've seen people getting pulled back from the door before, and there's usually a very good reason for it. And it may get a bit forceful yes, to get the point across quickly. No time to argue about stuff in the door. Fun and positive is all good and well, but this is a serious sport, and while you're not in the military, there's no room for much pussyfooting around either. If that's what you're looking for, you might want to stick to tandems or pick another sport. I've gotten cussed out (literally) for pulling people back from incoming swoopers (standing in a swoop competition lane is not particularly safe), from propellors (doesn't look so close through a photocamera does it?), situations like that. I'm sure all those people would call me "rude". Fine with me, at least they were safe You only got a few jumps, you have no idea what's going on around you yet. Don't take everything so personal now. ASK the guy why he did what he did. Don't whine about it on the 'net for crying out loud. Even if you were absolutely sure he was being rude, it's still a personal matter and I'd keep it off the 'net to keep from being seen as whiny/drama queen/tattletale, if I were in your shoes. TALK to the guy IRL, even going straight to the boss over a one time thing seems a bit weird to me but OK. Anyway, my tip, as a fellow girl and from just knowing you through your posts and your side of the story, is to grow a somewhat thicker skin quickly And jump more and post less ciel bleu, Saskia

7 Cell vs 9 Cell for Beginner
dragon2 replied to jcolborn48's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If a spectre doesn't open nice, either it needs a reline or you really need to learn to pack. The spectre opening is almost proverbially excellent. Also, it's still the best canopy around for wingsuiting IMO, I also used mine for CRW, filming CRW (try that with a sabre2 or stiletto), it's a good demo jumping canopy, etc. A lot of cameraflyers (world class) fly spectres. The only reason I got rid of mine was that getting a spectre relined at the time was quite expensive, and a 2nd hand Fusion or Safire was way cheaper Anyway, I wouldn't knock 7 cells in general, makes you seem kinda dumb ciel bleu, Saskia -
AFAIK the reason our new student gear was taken out of comission last year had to do with slipping hardware. But since these rigs also have skyhooks, they are now getting that mod done too. ciel bleu, Saskia
