New video - First flights/Wingsuit Weekend coming up(Belgium)
mccordia replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
news not worthy of a new thread, but Ive uploaded some new pics to the photo gallery of http://www.flylikebrick.com Slovenia, Hoevenen, and (in the misc folder) Alex with a huge ENG camera on his helmet JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Make sure you capture the program and upload it to skydivingmovies. Not a lot of people get german channels.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Sorry...read that wrong Maybe you didnt jump enough that year and just started sucking performancewise JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

The airlocks on my suit are functioning so well, that I could inflate a bed if I just hooked a hose on to the legcells. It sounds like a deflating tire of a car when you squeeze the air out... So probably functioning better then the s3 proto you're talking off.. From what Ive heard, the airlocks on the new mach1 work just as well.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Dont you think the added year/experience also adds a lot performance/skillwise?. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

MIGHTY AWESOME!! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

If you're used to deploying in full-flight. An airlocked wing does not change one single thing... If you're used to shutting down the wings. It takes a few seconds for the air to be pushed out, so it takes some extra attention.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
-
Correct no.....as normaly, air would leak out of the wing as soon as you collaps the arms/legs. And the wing would deflate. In airlocked wings, the wings stay presurized much better. As they dont leak air through the vents. As soon as air enters the wing, they are rigid. And they dont deflate when you do weird rolls etc. There is truly a huge difference in flying a wingsuit with airlocked wings and without. Especialy when you're really throwing your wingsuit around the sky, its something that improves your flying a lot, as you always have inflated controll-surfaces. Both in turns, rolls and flips.. Pre-Cochstedt weekend @ Schaffen (info on sleeping/driving etc)
mccordia replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
We've already made sure all cameramen know who to follow on seperation/opening, so those those deployment pics should be ok Mike Sadly, schaffen is closed on friday. Unless you want to drive to Moorsele (I think they do jump on fridays?) Hans probably knows the skinny on that? Or you could drive to Rotterdam friday, and have some fun with the SA boys in here And yay..my wingsuit survived its wash! Sqeeky-clean again! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

Cool..because the 3500 ft wingsuit jump I got in this weekend was nice, but Im a sucker for more altitude when it comes to building flocks.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

The weather is completely SHEIT here at the moment. But the weatherforecast promises a chance to really good weather by friday! We'll keep you guys posted throughout the week Note: In belgium, they dont mind a few clouds here or there (or everywhere). We've had base flyers with GPS units before. True story, although it never really happened ofcource.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

Eehm...yea.. Just like when I mean 2007 on every video I put out with 2006 on it as the date JULY 14th! Breakfast is included with the balloonjump, and takeoff is from Teuge airport. Cheerio! p.s. And DAMN Im excited about scheffen and Germany! Even washed my wingsuit, so its white again instead of a sweaty yellowish green/brown striped camoflage suit JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
Nice pics..but where are the office photos? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Almost! For those that are hanging around Holland/Belgium/Germany after the boogie. Juli 14th, early in the morning, we'a friend of mine is organising a big ballonjump. Altitude wil be around 6000/7000 ft, so ideal hight for a cool jump in your birdsuit of choice combined with some flocking action if you want... There's already 2 or 3 birds on the list. If you want to jump as well, contact me! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
I think cameralife mostly depends on how you mount your camera. Safe inside a D-Box, or just outside (maybe wrapped in a neoprene jacket) Wind/Moisture tend to break cameras quite quick..give em all kinds of failures..blocky images etc.. Think Im over 500 jumps on my current camera (mounted inside FF2 helmet). Still going strong... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Your suit being smaller, it will definately be a bit more difficult for you (depending on their mode of flight) If they are really flying all out, full speed. Then its going to be hard to keep up with them, and upgrading to a faster suit is going to be needed. But in this situation, it would be the forward speed you'd be lacking mostly. And you seem to be strugling with downward speed mostly? Getting some more info on the downward speeds the flock is doing would really help in terms of giving you a good and informed answer. If they are doing 40 mph flights...you're going to have a hard time.. But anything at 60mph and higher should be doable in most suits...but again..only talking fallrates...the biggest difference in bigger suits are the forward speeds when they max out..although..ofcource...for big boys..flying gets a LOT easyer when you're flying something bigger. Just try having someone video you during the approach/flocking, and see what you are doing. Just to see if its your flying that can use improvement.... Im always a firm advocate of not spending a lot of money when there may still be other options... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
-
Without even knowing the speeds the flock is doing? What suits the other people are flying? how heavy he is? how heavy the people he is flying with are? Dang..You should be in sales I say, see whats causing you to sink...and work on those skills... If that doesnt work, and you're really flying to suit to the max and have cash burning in your pocket...then start looking for a bigger suit.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
-
If you start sinking when you are arriving at the flock, it could be you are braking, and thereby completely stalling your wingsuit. Watch the video called 'forward speed' at http://www.flylikebrick.com/manual.php and see if you find yourself doing anything like this. Though getting a bigger suit is always the easy (and expensive) answer, unless its massive amounts of forward speed you are missing, quite often its just a change in flying style thats needed. I found myself quite sinking out on formations (even once with a whole sidewing of a 42 way following me...) and analizing video of myself doing this, I always saw the same 'lazy' leg position. Instead of just taking some of the forward speed out, by slightly raising my lower legs, I just let my upper legs droop/hang beneath my body. Causing me to brake too much, and sink out on the formation.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

If you already make your setup below the level of the canopy/flag, there is NO WAY you're going to climb back up to that level again. Unless your head is bolted onto your shoulders, keeping an eye on a passing canopy (especialy given the size of the flag) should not be a problem. Its possible to look in other directions then just the one in which you're flying.. Definately not a stunt you want to try without having practiced both the formation flying/setup and are an expert at judging the height/distance. This would not have to be done on level, or even that close, since its a show for people on the ground. They wont see if you're 3 meters high or low. So with some practice and good planning, Id say (with experienced pilots) it'd be perfectly do-able.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Which tracking suit has the best glide ratio?

We went out for drinks with the pilot (scot) and the guy charged with the machanics/fueling etc. Here's roughly what I remember.. The thing runs on waterperoxide (waterstofperoxide) and he caries just enough fuel for 35 seconds of flight. Scott, the guy flying it, was in the army and just happened to be in the right place when they needed a new pilot. Its (according to him) the only flying one, which is a leftover from an old US militairy program which was cancelled. Because the thing gets lighter with every second it flies, he has to throtle down the whole time, as it starts climbing quicker and quicker. They calculated that, if they'd just run it at MAX. They would keep climbing for +-20 seconds, and get it up to roughly 3000 ft. Scott is a former skydiver, and sayd he was talking/interested in doing a stunt like that, rigging it with a special base/harnes (scary when you see all the things sticking out of the thing, ready to grab lines). They where also trying to get money (or already building, dont remember) a new unit, which would run a lot longer then the 35 seconds of flight this one allows. And sadly...(everyone asked) he is the only one allowed to fly it.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

WS, chest mounted altimeters, full face helmets
mccordia replied to Waldschrat's topic in Wing Suit Flying
The fullface helmet would definately limit your view a little. Espcialy when it comes to a chest mounted alti. I prefer open face helmets, although partly for that reason, its mostly because you get much more inflight/visual communication across when you can clearly see and read peoples faces JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -
