Small update (from talking to the DZ owner) - boogie registration 50 euro's - altitude 12.000 ft, 14.000/15.000 ft on special jumps Depending on who's coming from the UK (Andy Ford I hope!) there isnt any other organising for wingsuits arranged on this side of the pond for the boogie. I blame it all on a bad childhood Wanna see my kermit tatoo? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

As we've seen in some countries (I believe Italy a while ago?)...it only takes one bad incident to HAVE the governing body step in and suddenly put severe (dare I say unrealistic/dangerous) limits on who can and cant teach... Some people try to work towards something better....some just stand along the sideline and comment... And knowing you a bit better, I believe you are definately part those trying to further the dicipline the right way....but tend to like come across a bit of an ignorant rebel here, critisizing (tongue in cheek or not) everyone who does not share you vision of how it should be... commercialising the whole teaching/coaching is not my intention...and I guess thats mostly what puts you off of the whole 'official' instructors thing...or did some instructor do bad things to you in the basement or touch you in the private place...its ok to be scared JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Yes..and its because I still believe we should strive for the instructors patch meaning something...which is the reason I choose to have and get one in the first place... Because, for me, it stands for something... Its too bad it may not stand for the same thing with everyone...and thats what you are rebelling against..over and over again... But trying to get good educated and capable people out there teaching and instructing has always been the goal...and for people who dont know anything...it could and should be mean the same thing, as it means when you have an instructor with an AFF rating teach you skydiving. The fact that not everyone may actually have 'earned' that title/patch or whatever is clear...you've mentioned it a bazillion times...and you'd probably see me get a tatoo with kermit on my arm sooner then you'd ever become any form of instructor...WE KNOW! But dont bash every person who chooses to get a rating, because it actually means something to him or her... Moneysceme? Pyramid thing? I dont know who you've met, and what wrong example those people set for you..but the people I've witnessed getting their training didnt get ripped off, and got 2 full days of training and their moneys worth of jumps, and are now walking around as instructors fully deserved...and when somebody goes up to them for instruction..they can fully trust that person to be capable of doing everything that I title claims he can and cant do for a student wanting to get into wingsuits.. There are people out there who got their 'rating' the cheep/easy way, and may not deserve it anymore...and there's nothing we can do about that.. But your pointless, and over and over bashing of people who choose to get a rating, with the sole reason of wanting to actually have it mean something...its silly...and I honestly dont get it... you dont want to be an BMI/PFI etc....because you have your own 'vectorboy' rating, and thats what you stand for when you coach, teach and instruct someone... But some people believe that official instructorspatch should uphold and represent that same 'quality', who are you to call them idiots? Its kinda like the whole BASEnumbers thing. Go to france, and most BASEjumpers there dont have a BASEnumber...because they dont care...but you wont see them slag someone who does have one... As most people who have a BASEnumber have it because they think it stands for something....but like the BMI/PFI thing...some people just have it to show off (with a big copyrighted tatoo on their shouldeblades).... Even though they are not the best basejumpers ever...and maybe even hardly jump..as for them...the number or title is all they throw around.. There's different reasons to get a title or number...be it base..be it wingsuit instructor... dont redicule people who have one for the right reason just because you think its stupid...not everyone has the same beliefs as to what it stands for (or should stand for) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

In an ideal world, everyone takes the same exam. Both based on flying skills, chasing dummy students, doing briefings, debriefing. And some people who are out there as instructors do so, and can. So yes..having SOMEONE (notice I never used the word instructor, I sayd capable person, so even you 'you rebel you' would fall under that catagory) who 100% deserves the actual title 'instructor' (and by that I dont mean 'officialy', just in terms of someone being good at teaching someone....then yes...that truly is 10x better then any 'reading' FJC you could do. And Id gladly call anyone who thinks low jumpnumbers and little to no guidence getting into this dicipline an idiot.. If you truly want to fly wingsuits, there's only 2 things that are important. Have some decent experience flying your body before you ad wings...and no matter what you think you can do at 100 jumps...come back online when you have a 1000 and tell me that is not a HUGE difference in awareness and skill.. Take the efford to listen to people who have made all the mistakes for you...who learnt things which they could teach you..both 'to do's' and 'not to do's'... It might seem like the cool and quick thing to start flying soon, but listen to the right people, and learn from them..instead of trying to be the hot new kid, bragging how you learnt it without guidence, skill or experience and somehow survived... Being the guy that flies safely...flies where people want to see him on a formation or to the point in the air where they expect him to open (or further), and you will be the coolest guy alive. You can get there the easy way or the hard way. And just inventing everything on your own, doing a lot of scary shit in the air, with the risk of hurting other people (oh yea..and yourself)... But taking that same route with some proper guidence from people who have made all the mistakes for you, definately helps making you a safer jumper... You dont need someone with the TITLE BMI/PFI/WS-I or whatever....you need someone who is an instructor in his heart (gay as that may sound) Doing it for the love of flying...doing it for the smiles....and doing it because he or she wants to further the dicipline...a huge force of enthousiasm and drive to fly being what makes him or her want to teach people.. There is a whole lot of bitching about the instructor title...its useless..there probably wont be any unity in that untill something really bad happens and the organisations start making safety rules...and even then...who will take the exams..hand out titles etc. Its a sad thing the title isnt a 100% secure way of telling if someone has the skill, attitude and drive to really be teaching someone... But I think that was the drive behind starting it all..and still support the training of new instructors who go for such a title.. Im proud for what I did when I had the exam (2 days of flying, teaching dummy students, and even a real one) and for me..in terms of structure of a briefing...(the ground stuff) it taught me A LOT which I use in every briefing I give... The I programs may not be flawless...half or more of the instructors out there may or may not even know how to fly...but if nobody is trying and working towards something better...this flawed and tainted instriuctorsystem is all we got... Long rant....no point....probably...... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Knowing plenty of stories of people who did the read, read, read, and still had some bad hickups on their first jump that could have been prevented had someone given them a good 1st flight course.. Id say yes...1st hand instruction from a capable person is always 10x better then reading... reading about a flight patern, or having someone 'walk' it with you can already be the difference between understanding it or being lost in the sky. Maybe not for you, but plenty of low-jump-number-ahead-of-the-curve-heads-up-firsttimers out there who probably wont grasp every aspect of wingsuit flight that well from reading it in a book. Next to the fact that a lot of the unofficial 'reading material' available online is not always the best advice possible... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

What you'd really need for a poll like this is the sales figures of each manufacturer..? Aside from that, its not much of a true face of whats out there. You hardly see any frenchies on this forum, yet look around on any french DZ, and theres more S-Flys out there then you can count. I wouldnt be surprised (seeing the amount of suits flyyourbody has sold in france/spain etc) if they are actually one of the largest players (just in terms of # suits on the market) At least for this part of the EU.. I dont care too much about ratings from the formal side of things. But I think rating can and should be a guideline, as to knowing the person who holds that rating is a good teacher/coach. Both on the ground and in the air. At the moment, there isnt a boogie you can go to, without 75% of all attendees having some form of a wingsuit rating. Yet when you see most people fly, they cant even get a normal 2 way to fly together. With all ratings (and not one excluded) there are people who work hard to get that rating. And can and wil definately give you your moneys worth when you decide to go up with them for an FJC, camerajump or coaching. Be that for free, at slotprice, or for an additional coaching/instruction/video fee. But there's also a large bunch of people out there who didnt really earn that rating. And Im not even talking about an exam. Im just talking about having the skills as an instructor, which the rating they 'flash' indicates they have... With some people having ratings from 5 years ago, and not having done anything to read up, learn or fly since then. Yes. There's people out there that may have helped setting up the dicipline 'back in the days', but shouldnt be a teacher anymore. And there are people who had their 'whatever' rating handed out over drinks, at a campfire or at an exitpoint somehwere. But I still dont think thats a reason to just throw away the good intentions behind the rating. And especialy the whole rebelling against it. As some point, it wil become clear who are good and bad teachers. And who will give you coaching worth your money, and who not.. But sadly, that point is not here yet. Every new manufacturer starting a new rating, instead of trying to work towards a non factory/manufacturer specific rating which is recognised worldwide (such as tandem/AFF etc), is definately not helping in making things clearer. BMI, PFI, SFly-I, TonySuits, EG suits....tons of different ratings...and most of them are based on the same innitial rating system... Although its going to be hell at first...I would cheer on an official rating system, that also specifies the organising/coaching skills level. But then again...why even try, as most will be against it anyways... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Its already been done several times before. At Texel, a few years back (when 'my classic II flies much further then your classic I' was the only debate possible) for a Dutch (science) TV program. With the TV host being the passenger. And if you do a search on this forum, you'll also find some mentions from earlyer attempts by other people. Just havent seen a lot of video/stills online, but its been done before.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

After the contestjumps, we tried a tandem-wingsuit dive. Jokinly dubbed the Xwing project! With the slight sideways movement between tandemmaster and passenger, it proved to be a bit fo a challenge to keep it flying straight and on heading. But all in all an awesome sight (and a cool flyby after opening) Both TM and passenger are highly experienced wingsuit pilots and base/skydivers Here's some framegrabs from the video.. Capture NTSC footage from a PAL camera
mccordia replied to pllnm001's topic in Photography and Video
Ive had no issues whatsoever capturing NTSC tapes using my PAL sony PC8, and have done it from other cameras as well.. Premiere does seem to have a bit of a glitch every once in a while when you use automatic scene detection and/or timecode when capturing this way. Just hitting play on the camera, and then record on your NLE program should work fine..? JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? -

Awesome video dude! But I miss a certain girls name with the camera credits... A true groupie who dedicated herself to film the Topgun landings and therefore missed her own Skyvan load. Hmmm.... I was only crediting the in-air footage for this one.. But rest assured, your name will be on the big boogie vid! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
