Congratulations Dave! Graduating from the Corps is something that you will be even more proud of as time goes on. I graduated from a different Corps of Cadets about 10 years ago and my classmates are still some of my closest friends. You're dead set on that Marine Corps thing huh. The problem is that if someone is stupid and gets themself killed then we ALL have to deal with the consequences. It is sort of along the same lines as requiring seat belts. If someone is not wearing a seat belt, gets in a wreck and gets hurt then we all end up paying for that person's medical expenses either through our taxes or increased insurance. Our society is too interconnected to believe that most of your choices don't somehow effect other people. I'm not arguing that AADs should be required. In some situations it is probably safer to jump without them. I'm just making the point that everything you do in this sport effects all other skydivers in some way or another. Skydiving safely is everyone's personal responsiblity to themselves and other skydivers. I'm all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with typewriters.

You really have no idea what you are talking about. I believe the motto of the Black Panthers was "Black Power" not "Non White Power". They also hated and fought against Jews. They had absolutely no right and no justification to commit the murders and other attacks of the 60s and 70s period. Neither does the KKK or any other race based group. But if any of them want to demonstrate or make speaches touting their ideology then they have every right to do that in the USA. Most of them make more sense than you have so far. I have to agree with Jimbo on this one. I do not agree with anything the KKK says but as long as they remain non violent and don't break any laws then it is legal and should be allowed. Heck, the best thing we can do for groups like that is let them run their mouth and demonstrate to people just how stupid they are. I think your problem was an overzealous "up" not the Cessna. We only do that to coordinate a group exit so I'm assuming your JM was exiting with you.
