so i just bought a new rig (pilot 168 in an icon container) and noticed that after i jump it and go to pack it, my left riser's cutaway cable is out of it's housing (as in it's still through the loop, but not in the pocket to keep it in place) if that makes sense...almost like a quarter inch short. Is this something i should look into replacing, or is it not a big deal? it's not really close to coming undone, it's still about 4-5 inches through the white loop holding the 3 ring in place, just wondering if this is something that should be replaced or if it's not a big deal. i'll post pics if nobody understands what i'm saying.

Thanks for the info....i will be going to best buy here and trying to get a simple UV Filter... as for the videos i am going to be making, it's just the normal tandem video (interview before, half way up, the jump, interview after) and fun jumps.
-
does the uv filter mess up any of the picture quality?

Anyone know a good place to pic this up? Any chain of stores that carry them or is ordering online the best option?

when i'm out at atmoshpair i expect to see those pics...just leave them up on the wall of pictures..haha -
thanks for the moisture point...never thought of that as the ones i've made before have been closed... as for the snag points, i found out where to get some foam fillers and that should work better than the gaffers tape i had orriganlly planned on.... Edit to add: the foam filler is kind of like the spray on gap fillers, that foam up then get hard...dont know really how to explain it better thanks again for the comments, and pointers i've gotten...this is one of the first sidemounts i've made...the rest were all top mounts.

New Jumper here... anyone else from Wisconsin?
Iceburner replied to JumpinJules's topic in Introductions and Greets
Hey, I mainly jump at: Fort Atkinson, Skyknights (in East troy), Omro, and occasionally at Wisc. Rapids when i can get a balloon/ultra light up...which costs normally a case of beer -
I already have a piece made out for covering the rest of the front/lense...which will be epoxied and screwed into the fiberglass...i just wanted to make sure i got the lense before doing it, as i'm going to fit it snug to the lense...if that makes sense...

Here's my almost finished mount for my pc109...juts need some gaffers tape to fill in a couple snag points....any comments/suggestions welcome, as i made pretty much everything myself Edit to add: On the bottom is the camera screw which helps mount it, the velcro strap is a backup incase something fails. Box is made of fiberglass and has foam inserts to keep camera from scratching. Helmet is a bonehead optick, has a cutaway system, and i will be getting a new lense for the camera as well.

It's a lot of work and materials...but if you know some basics and have the tools or know someone who does, it's pretty cheap to make it yourself...just make sure you check for snag points and things of that nature. I have built 23 d-boxes for different helmets, and it's really not that tough once you do it a few times...i will send you pictures of my work if you want...just send me a pm or something. A new helmet is expensive, and the parts to make your own are fairly cheap.

Just wondering what lenses any PC109 flyers are using...i just got my camera, so now i'm thinking i might get a lens...any opinions on where to look, what too look for, and what to stay away from would be nice. I've video'd tandems for about 75ish jumps on a differnt camera (35mm lens stock) and noticed my 109 only has a 30mm.

Hello, being that i just bought/built a new camera setup i'm looking for the best way to sell my old setup...i've posted an add on the classifieds and found a couple people (none went through with the buy) and was wondering what others have done...should i sell it piece by piece or the whole system??? And, how is the best way to make sure you're not selling it to some 50 jump wonder (i've asked about jump #'s, but is there any way to really check up on it??)

What's the most idiotic comment you've heard from a whuffo?
Iceburner replied to Fallin4U's topic in The Bonfire
one of our dz pilots asked me why we would jump...i gave him my still camera to get some pictures of us hanging from the strut of the c-182. After the jump we all watched him almost crash the plane...he was taking pics of his approach and forgot to actually fly...here's the last pic before he dropped my camera and BARELY saved the landing. -
couldn't those latches catch a line and pop open though? or am i seeing the locking system wrong?

Hey all, I'm currently working on building my custom d-box for my pc109. I'm just getting into fiberglass work, but when it's done (proly a week or so...i do have other work to do) i'm going to post pics to see any suggestions. I have everything pretty much worked out, but have questions on the closing system...i have seen many camera setups (such as the one i currently own) use a cord running through slots to keep the box closed...what are some other methods? I was thinking somthing like a suitcase latch, with a depressible male end locked into a female end. I think this would limit snag points, but yea, i'm lookin for other ideas as i dont have mine built yet. any suggestions would be appreciated. Just pm me or shoot me an e-mail @ tunafisherman@gmail.com
