No they aren't. But what they are saying is that they are willing to accept death as a consequence of making such a mistake. Okay fine, then why do they seem to have such low opinions of people who jump with cypres? Obviously they think everyone who does is a toad and shouldn't be in the sky, or at least that's how these people are coming across to me. I jump with a cypres because I want to. If for some reason I am unconscious for either a bad skydive or unforseen medical reason, and survive, not only will I be glad I had it but so will my family. Thank you for the info. I can't believe most of us made it out high school alive. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Was there ANY alcohol involved? I'm sorry for you loss, but in cases where they tried to blame the dope, there was alcohol involved. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Even though I'm libertarian in my leanings (do what the hell you want to) that number is wrong. I had two close friends in high school die less than a month apart as a direct result of the use of marijuana. Jump Please explain how? I am very curious about that. I'm not making light of this, but my life is at least worth the cost of a cypres. You make a very valid point PhillyKev, but unfortunatly, you don't get to make those decisions, even though they seem to be more logical than the current state of affairs. I love the USA, but damn lets take care of our own first. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

QuoteAt least two that I know of. In one a jumper "wiggled" the other jumper's pin because he thought it was too far in. The pin came out and the container opened near the (half open) door. Fortunately it did not deploy. In the second one a jumper pushed the other jumper's pin in so far that it was past the "bump" on the loop, thus causing a PC in tow. The checker swears she didn't do that, but that's what the jumper found when he looked at the pin. The loop was very loose to begin with. Gear checks should be just that - checks. All too often, though, people treat them as opportunities to adjust another jumper's gear. reply] Holy crap! Okay we have something else to work on. How to give a proper gear and pin check. When I check, I LOOK at the pin and in window on the pilot chute bridle. I don't touch the pin or bridle unless I can't see it or if something looks wrong, at that point, I always ask for a second opinion. I have personally never heard of gear/pin checks being a problem, but I am for damn sure going to be very thorough when explaining to new jumpers how to give a proper gear check. These are good examples for me to use on what not to do. Thank you Bill. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

I am amazed how many people have eyes in the back of their head to give themselves a pin check. We are talking pin checks right, not flap checks, not bridle checks, pin checks. How many pre-matures or malfunctions have there been because someone DID receive a pin check? How many have probably been prevented by getting a pin check. I like to get a pin check, especially if there is a student on board to set a good example. Many students mimic what they see. If they see their instructors not wearing helmets during taxi and take off, they figure why should they once they are off student status. They don't think they are a tard and going to hit their head. If their instructors don't wear a seatbelt, why should they. I jumped with students that have over 300 jumps now and still wear their helmet getting on the plane, during taxi and take off. It would help if all the "experts" out there would help set good examples to students and maybe we could improve on overall safety. Even though the story was about Kate Cooper and her great accomplishments, I was in a few of the "scenes" on the show Lifetime. When I was 5 years old I was on the cover of the Cambridge Star (very small town newspaper where I grew up). The worst 15 minutes of fame was on the local news here in Memphis. We had had a fatality some years ago and the news people came out and was filming and believe or not I didn't notice the camera and blew a kiss to a little baby. Of course they show that on TV while reporting on the fatality. There were a few more blurbs here and there so I figure if you add them all up they will equal 15 minutes. Judy

I would not call her stupid. But why was she the only one that hit the tail? She is lucky that she had an AAD, and that it worked. I'm glad that she had an AAD, I am glad it worked, I am glad that she landed in a way that didn't kill her. But she could have prevented the whole thing by a better exit. Or do you not agree? You didn't call her stupid Ron that other guy did. She got knocked out. I was not there, I don't know the situation, but to quote Mike Mullins, "sometimes skydivers get excited and do stuff.". I thrilled she was saved and this turned out okay. But what these anti-aad people are saying is that they will NEVER EVER make a mistake, that they will NEVER have us for an aad. I like to try new things and jump with new people. Things can happen and that's why I prefer to jump with an AAD. I am not perfect, in fact I'm a bit of a klutz. I have jumped without an AAD and with. I will jump without an AAD, but prefer to jump with an AAD. Apparently some of you never ever make a mistake and have zero tolerance for people trying to learn and making mistakes. Its pretty sad. There are 9 million ways to die in this sport. If you are stupid enough not to pull...you are stupid enough to hook a good canopy in. If you are stupid enough to get knocked out....you are stupid enough to get your neck broken in the same type of collision. Just in case there is someone out there I have not offended yet....I think putting 2 squares in your container and arming one with an AED is stupid too! ...but if you chose to anyway...always pull at the correct alt(I have to...for different reasons). Your opinions are very disturbing to me especially since your profile shows that you are an instructor. Your point of view is calling this girl stupid because she got knocked out.. That is a personal attack. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Tennesse Skydiving Center -- Aircraft

Sorry to tell you that you are wrong here. They are only 20 minutes for everywhere. On there other website they made up a D license number for someone that's not on their staff anymore. I'm surprised the picture isn't of a 747 or the space shuttle. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -
Instructor/coach/TM lost fun in skydiving

I love working with students. I got my AFF I because we needed instructors at the DZ to make more skydivers to play with. And trust me, if you want excitment, get a rating. You never know what's gonna happen next. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -
Its both, the coke and the c-meth. It just pisses me off soo much to see him like that and then lie to all of us about it like were stupid. Thanks you PhillyKev. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

This is unfortunately a serious post. A friend of mine has been shooting up cocaine now for several months. He used to weigh about 215lb now weights about 140. He has had a problem with this but kicked it (in jail) 8 years ago, but started again. A few of his friends have spoken with him, and I was not nice about it, I basically said your killing yourself and how can you do that to your family, etc. He said when he is ready to get help he will and then says he wishes he could do this socially. OMG! He cannot be reasoned with. One "hotline" told us that basically if he doesn't want help, then walk away cause he will only hurt you more. Is there another option? Anyone? I wouldn't recommend jumping through a solid cloud layer (especially near a big lake) to anyone, regardless of experience level. I'm not recommending ANYONE jump through any cloud, but they are not the only dz in america that does that. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Some of those things go on at other dz's around the country. I completly understand your anxiety. You made the right decision for you. If you were a regular jumper at that dz all those factors probably wouldn't make you blink an eye, but when you are trained to know better, it makes a difference. Again you made the right decision. sure, I used to have one pop out every once in a great while when I wore goggles instead of a full-face helmet. The contact stays in the goggles generally so if you lose on in freefall, carefully take your goggles off because if will more than likely be attached to the inside of the goggles. Yes, I understand things change during the course an event and intentions are not always met, but some people go to boogies more to party and the skydiving is there if they feel up to it. I just fear that these boogies could end up going away because the people that supply the planes are not going to want to sit there and wait for people to get up if the majority of the people are there for the parties. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
-
My point is are you willing to let the partying interfer with your skydiving. example: staying up until 4:00 drinking and running around with bull horn and unable to get up to jump by noon or party til midnight or 1:00 a.m and get up and jump by 10:00.
