Sorry, I have no words of encouragement because, been there, done that, got the same response. You are probably gonna have to do this on "non-company" time and dis-associate this outing from the company. Good luck. First off - I AM NOT RELIGIOUS, unless, of course, skydiving is now a mainstream religon. What was the thread originally about? Oh yeah, didn't it have something to do with Clay? baaaabaaaa baaaa Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Try living in Memphis (moved here from MN about 6 years ago). We have 6 flags over Jesus down here (formally known as Bellevue Baptist). These good church going christians are more tolerant of an all day long KKK rally in downtown than they are of Mike Tyson fighting Lenox Lewis in a 1 night battle. Its so bizarre. I'll take neither for 400 Alex. (playing Jeopardy) I don't quite understand either statement or question. If religion is making your personal decisions and beliefs, then, I would have to say "try thinking out of the box". I am personally a hypocrite. I think gay people should have the rights to do what other human beings do, yet I have almost zero tolerance for people who don't think gay people should be treated as equal humans. Judy p.s. any statment was not directed at any one person. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

If you ever want to compete you will need a minimum of a C license. If you plan on making beach jumps, most dz's usually require a C or D license. If you want a rating of any type you will need more than an A license. If you want to do night jumps, you will need a more than an A license. Ignorance spreads AIDS. The guy or girls who says "not me, I'm straight, I don't use drugs,", they are the "spreaders" of AIDS. I actually know a guy who thinks you can get AIDS from being served food by a gay person (male or female). Can people "out grow ignorance"? Is he really a dick or is it just the way he presents himself. Some people (I work with alot of them) come across as total asshats but really aren't that bad, its just the way they say it. If this is the case you just have to explain to people he's not soo bad. Maybe charm school of some type. It really is nice of you to want to keep this kid around. Hope you can straighten him out. I didn't think it could happen either. Here's what happened or we think happened. New jumper at our dz. He rents gear (not student gear). I believe the main is a 190 sabre. He cuts away (doesnt follow ANYTHING) and we can't find the main and freebag. anyway, we ask him what was the malfunction. He said the canopy was hooked up backwards. (that's appears to be his story and he is sticking to it) I ask him a few more times and so do other people and he said "the canopy seemed to have flipped through", I said "so you mean it was upside down?" He said oh, I guess that would make it upside down." Then he said it must have been hooked up backwards. I'm guessing he flipped through the risers and or had some line twists. I did not hook up the canopy. I guess the fact that he made a comment about the canopy doing something more than just flying backwards makes me believe something else was the problem. Anyone have any ideas. Unfortunately no one saw the problem. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

The top of the canopy is now the bottom of the canopy (you look up and see your pilot chute right above you attached to your canopy), whether it was hooked up and packed upside down. or here's a hypothetical - say you deploy and the pilotchute goes over the nose and is pulled all the way through. Will the canopy stay inflated? Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
-
Not quite what I'm referring to. Say you hooked it up and packed it upside down. and no I didn't do this. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

if it is upside down? I really don't know if it is possible to even get the canopy that way, but would it inflate and stay inflated? Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Well, my hubby just left a pen in his shorts and was able to get the ink off with some kind of petroleum based (I think) adhesive remover. Otherwise get it cold (frozen) and scrap it off. asshat. Good luck Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

IMO, If she was not trained on emergency procedures, the Instructor and/or DZ is at fault. I've had some student do some interesting things under canopy, in the air, and even just on the ground, but they are trained on how to handle and malfunction. Our students are given a decision altitude (an altitude to which you need to decide if you are keeping this canopy or not.) We have no way in knowing if the student is going to screw up or not until they are given a chance. But they will have a better chance of surviving with the knowledge that we provide to them during AFF and through their A license. We teach them to practice their emergency procedures over and over and over again. We can only educate the newer jumpers, what they choose to do with that knowledge is their choice. I guess I consider cutting away and pulling my reserve as part of "dealing with the problem". My Aff training 7 years ago was quite thorough as far as how and how long you deal with a canopy problems. If I remember correctly, back when I first started jumping, alot of the fatalities were due to an inadaquate amount of time they gave themselves to cutaway AND deploy the reserve. As its been said in many threads before, education, education, education. Blue Skies, Judy

Chuteless, are you saying we should all deploy lower so we don't think we have more time? It doesnt' make any sense. It's not a complacecy issue, its called survival. I don't like deploying at or below 2000 feet unless I am told to for sepation on big ways. IMO, those of us that deploy higher than the old day jumpers, are just be more cautious than the "old days". The reason I dump higher is because I can. I do most of my jumps from 14,500. There is no reason for me to dump at 2000, when my canopy could, on occasion, take 1000 feet to open. The canopies nowadays are smaller and when you have a spinning mal, altitude is your friend. These little canopies spin faster and lose altitude faster than the canopies from the "old days". Just my 2 cents. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

What the hell is wrong with them? When I eat hot wings, I always use bleu cheese or I won't eat them. In fact, that's the only time I use bleu cheese. I'm skipping lunch today. Unless I make a run for the border, but we are trying a new mexican deli tonight. When I was an AFF student, I took everything literally. Level 4 and 5 are very similar. If you can pass 4, level 5 should be no problem. 6 and 7 were the funnest for me as a student and now as a jumpmaster. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
