I have a joke: Why does the Navy give Marines a ride on their boats? . . . . . . . Sheep are to obvious. Good luck! Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

You said: "A good JM will turn off the cypres and then let the student turn it back on." So I took that as if I don't turn off the cypres for each different student that uses that rig, I'm a bad (not good) JM. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
-
Quite a bold statement. I guess every dz in America and abroad has bad JM's. I don't shut off the cypres on every jump. In fact, I've never heard of such a thing for any AFF I, or I/E. Turning it off and on 5-10 times a day just doesn't seem like a good idea. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

I knew what a cypres looked like on and off. When I do a gear check, I tell them if the Cypres is on or off. Back 9 years ago when I was trained not too many people had a cypres. Like I said before, the only AAD that I had experience with was an FXC, which I knew how to turn on and off. Cypres can save your life and it could kill you too. I jump with a cypres now, but my first 500+ jumps were without a cypres. At least the person asked and I hope like hell you didn't make them feel stupid. Are you aware that there could be jumpers out there with thousands of jumps that may not know how to turn a cypres on? Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
-
Yes, and no cause it depends. There is a very good possiblity that the all the jumps they did the rig had already been jumped and the cypres turned on. I was trained with an FXC, so when I got off AFF I didn't know how to turn a cypres on, and didn't purchase one until 500 jumps later, at which point I had to learn how to turn a cypres on. Should "hook" turns be banned at demos?
jlmiracle replied to hottamaly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Like was stated earlier - the only thing a wuffo understands is on target and stand up landing. The swooping is cool if that is what they are there to see, but I am completely against hook turns into demos. If we keep having all these problems with demo's, I will be against them also. judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -
Eat At Chili's on Monday Sept. 20th for St. Jude
jlmiracle replied to jlmiracle's topic in The Bonfire
During the month of September (National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month), Chili's is sponsoring a nationwide campaign to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in the fight against childhood cancer. For the entire month, Chili's is sponsoring the Create a Pepper to Fight Childhood Cancer campaign in which guests will be invited to donate $1 or more to color the Chili's signature pepper logo. Additionally, on September 20 we ask that you, your family and your friends visit the restaurant for lunch or dinner to participate in a unique giving opportunity. On this special day, 100 percent of Chili's profits will be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. * The goal for this September campaign is to raise $2 million for St. Jude." I just thought I would let eveyone know, since this really cute little boy whose friend is at St. Jude told me about this. Pumpkin Toss can be done safely - Like the Turkey toss. Naked Slip and Slide Poke the Bear - still working on the rules for this one. We still have that giant roll of plastic wrap we can wrap people up with and throw them in the pool and see who can stays afloat the longest. Why do I have to make "FUN" jumps?
jlmiracle replied to OnYourBack's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The TM I had observed some years ago does not jump anymore after he flipped though his risers on a "fun" jump (the first in years) after doing ONLY tandems for years. He stopped about the same time they were going to make all TM prove they could fly as a coach (or something like that). Why do I have to make "FUN" jumps?
jlmiracle replied to OnYourBack's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am not a TM, have not nor will be. My KNOWLEDGE - of a TM (who does not jump anymore) who could not be stable with a drogue (stable meaning belly to earth). He made 1 "fun" jump in the 4 years I saw him do Tandems and flipped through is risers because he could not get stable. What part of any of my posts have I said TM's have easier in the stablity deparment? People that put words in my mouth annoys me. That's utter bs. jlmiracle replied to OnYourBack's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So you do make jumps other than Tandems. My apologies. You made it sound that you only do Tandems and leave. Again from what I observed from a TM that only did Tandems for years and never did any jumps other than Tandems (until that last one when he flipped through is risers) was he couldn't skydive by himself, which I think makes for a bad TM. I know of no other TM that does not/cannot skydive by themselves. Judy Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -
Why do I have to make "FUN" jumps?
jlmiracle replied to OnYourBack's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What TM would admit that they need a drogue to be stable? How do you know you can be stable if you don't ever jump without someone attached to you or with a drogue? Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -
Why do I have to make "FUN" jumps?
jlmiracle replied to OnYourBack's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
To keep current because flying with a drogue is different than flying without one, and as stated in the other thread, I've seen a TM that could not get stable by himself without a drogue. Now you say you can but then you said you don't fun jump so how do you know you can if you don't try it often. I really don't care if you just to Tandems as long as you are a good safe TM instructor, but to me, a good safe TM is someone that can fly without a drogue and like I stated before, if all you do is Tandems, how do you know you can get stable by yoursefl without the drogue out. A tale of two different drop zones
jlmiracle replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
He doesn't jump anymore. This incident happened some years ago (4-5). He is the only TM I have never seen make a fun jump except for this incident. I hope was the 1 in a million kind of TM. Don't you get paid as a TM? How far is the next place you could be employed at as a TM? Does your DZ have a short supply of TM's? I guess I'm just grateful to have super nice place to jump at that is less than 1 hour from my house. I get paid to do AFF, which in turns pays for my fun/coach jumps (usually). I would have to travel over 4 hours to find remotely comparable facilities and I haven't see any dz pay as much as mine does. I've seen a TM like this and after a few years of only doing Tandems he couldn't get stable without a drogue, the last time he jumped (by himself) he flipped through his risers and got tangled up, we did cutaway, blew a panel out of his round reserve, luckily he snagged a tree on this plummet towards the earth and his only injury was a stubbed toe. Also, it would be nice to see TM's make a few fun jumps, give back a little bit that they made to the dz and just stay current as sport jumper. 911: Tips for Coping with September 11 Anniversary
jlmiracle replied to Tonto's topic in Speakers Corner
No, 9/11 in the United States is recognized as September 11. In case you missed it, that is the anniversary date of when a bunch of pig fucking ass hats flew 2 airplanes into the twin towers in New York. I don't know if you didn't know this or not. I'm a little sensative about it because of the number of people I knew that died because of these arab ass fuckers. I thought I had interest in skysurfing once, then I talked to a competitive skysurfer and she explained all the bad stuff that can happen so I said no thanks. I don't really like spinning anyway. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

It doesn't have to be cloudy to do naked jumps. We could do naked slip & slide and Chug. I think that would be more entertaining - at least for me. Raffle prizes are starting to come in. I will start posting them next week! Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -
I dated my first JM. After we started dating he did not act as JM on any of my remaining AFF jumps. Now part of the problems with this is everyone assumes that he was giving me the ALL the information I needed, and, well, he wasn't and didn't. I was way behind the curve when it came to packing and general knowledge of sports equipment, etc. Dating your instructor is not a good idea. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Yes, if I was feeling ill or injured. Not usually at least not like that. I tell them that they may find an instructor they feel more comfortable with and they can request that JM, but they may have to wait longer to jump waiting on a particular JM. Some student could careless who they jump with, some prefer some type consistancy. I don't believe it helps them. Like I stated above, some student can be comfortable and RELAXED with any JM, some get freaked out by some instructors approach and presentation. I'm not saying they don't need to talk to or ask questions of another instructor, just not everyone clicks with everyone and I want to give the students every opportunity to succeed. We need to focus on the Student and not the money or whose turn it is. If 5 students show up and they all want the same JM(s) and are prepared to wait for said JM(s) then that request should be honored.
