  1. Ditto, People from Florida think 70 is cold. Don't blame them because there is a difference due to the humidity. My in-laws live in Florida and wear sweaters in the house when they come to visit and that's after I turn the heat to 72! I'm originally from NY. Gone to Florida in winter wearing short sleeves in 65 degrees and seen them bundled like eskimos. Plus check out the average monthly rain fall. AZ in that time of year is next to Nil! Florida can't say that. Go to AZ
  2. I've had prople ask me, "Waht if your parchute doesn't open?" I reply, " I have a reserve" Then they say " What if that one doesn't open?" Then I say... "then you go back up to the plane and get another one!" You'll will stun some people as they ponder what you just said. Dumb asses
  3. I just signed up to take the essential canopy skills course at my local dropzone. I'm looking forward to it. The advanced course is offered the next day. I'm not into swooping and high performance landings at this stage. I was wondering if I would benefit from the accuracy part instead. What are some opinions of these courses?
  4. Hey thanks!!! I looked into the super 8 but was a little wary cause it was so much cheaper. Will look into it since I have 6 weeks til I go.
  5. On the weekend they can fly anything. I jump there and it all depends on how many jumpers are there. Especially the the tandems. For the most part they fly the otter and king air. I've jumped from three different planes in one day there. King air, otter and casa in that order. King Air is early but once the tandems roll in around noon then they go bigger. Best thing to do is call them @ 919-496-2224. They should be able to give you a heads up on how it looks for the weekend at what they might be flying. Hope this helps.
  6. Has anyone stayed at the Red Roof Inn in Eloy? I made reservations for October, but am looking for comments just in case I need to change them. Not looking for the Waldorf, just something clean. If anyone knows of a better one please let me know. Thanks
  7. How busy is Skydive Arizona on weekdays in the beginning of October? As in average loads per day.
  8. Thanks to all who replied. I will stay with the 210. If I could find the colors I like in a 230 that would be an option. I'm in no hurry to hurt myself! Once again.. thanks to all.
  9. you make some good valid points, but the answers to your questions are yes, I have flown my 210 in all winds and have landed out a few times and I have confidence in my canopy skills, Stand up landings for the last 40 jumps and the last time I didn't stand it up was due to a down wind landing to avoid traffic and I did a PLF. When I was a student, my instructor downsized me from a 288 to a 220 after 14 jumps. Yes there was a considerable difference. But I wasn't intimidated by it. True, in hindsight it was aggressive but I followed my instructors advice. I'm just asking if 20 SF is that much of a difference. It's not like I'm making an aggressive downsize move. Thanks for your feed back!
  10. How long did it take for you to drive a car? Or do you? if you are looking for someone to tell you it will be all ok, It won't happen. There's an old saying... "shut up and jump" Good luck deciding.
  11. Good Question! 2 reasons.. reason number one is that I never really cared for the colors of mine. It was a stock color pattern and my first canopy, reason number two... I tried a few jumps on a spectre 210 and loved the way it opened, flew, and flared!! I was hooked! now all I need to do is get one in the colors I really want.
  12. Does anyone think that the size difference between a spectre 210 and 190 is a cause for concern? I currently jump a tri 210 and have over 90 jumps on it and fly it well. I'm considering a spectre. While I would like to get a 210, it seems that 190s are well in stock at PDs stock list(especially the colors I prefer). I currently load the tri at 1.0-1. What are some thoughts? Thanks

    ZP Material

Not too sure about how they came to be. I know that aerodyne canopies before the merger were made in South Africa. So there might have been some relation prior to the merger. I'm just wondering why they don't use the same fabric they did for the older triathlons. PISA's Hornet was also made of that same type of fabric. Nice to pack. Harder than F111 but a hell of a lot easier than PD's fabric.

    ZP Material

Ok, it must have changed when they merged with PISA.

    ZP Material

Does Aerodyne still make their canopies out of the same ZP material it always has? My Triathlon was new when I got it and packing it wasn't as bad. I felt PD's fabric and it was like oil on ice!
  16. It is not that big of a deal. Check with your rigger. It won't be that much.

    Pilot canopy

I'm looking for opinions on Aerodyne's Pilot canopy. I know that everyone has a preference for one manufacturer or another. I would really like to hear from people who have jumped a pilot and a Sabre 2. I currently jump a Triathlon and love it. I'm not trying to compare it to a 9 cell. I'm just thinking about switching to a 9 cell. I don't have a real bias preference toward Aerodyne because I have a Tri, after all my reserve is a PD.
  18. Has anyone ever heard about replacing certain cells in their canopy to replace some colors they didn't like? I was wondering if it is even feasible. I'm very happy with the size and flight of my triathlon 210, but I never did like the"pink" cells in it! It's the stock color pattern #2. I bought it because it was my first canopy and it was brand new and got an unbelievable deal on it. But here about a hundred jumps later on it, the color is getting to me. I really have no desire to downsize or switch to a different canopy brand except maybe to demo a spectre. I can't seem to find on performance designs web site about demoing a spectre. thanks in advance. Look forward to all and any replies...
  19. Don't rule out Wings. A lot less expensive than Javelin and Mirage. A very comfortable Rig and very well made!! It was designed by the same guy who helped design the javelin.I love mine! Try going to WWW.para-servive.com AKA rigs and things and check out the prices. You will not regret it!!

    Oxygn A3 visor

Thanks for all the input. I replaced the visor yesterday and saw a difference on how the new one sat as compared to the old one. Did a jump and did back loops, front loops ect... it stayed closed. I guess it was time for a new one, the old was all scratched anyway. Can't justify another 300 bucks for a new one just yet! Thanks...

    Oxygn A3 visor

Last weekend on two jumps my visor popped open in freefall. The first was when I flipped upside down and just brushed it off as a fluke because of the wind just catching it right. The second happened in a stable bellly to earth position. On the ground when I open the visor it doesn't seem to open any easier than it ever did. Has this happened to anyone? If so what did you do to remedy the problem? Thanks

    cypres check

How long does it take to get back a cypres from its 4 year check? Thanks
  23. QuoteWhat about some form of gun control and gun registration? Lets say that if you want to hold guns & ammunition then you've gotta get a license from the police or Federal agency. QuoteSee the problem is that there are thousands of laws on the books already for hand guns. They are simply not enforced enough. most states require that you apply for a permit and the guns are in fact registered with the police! Stats show that less than 1% of all handgun crimes are committed by law abiding gun owners. The criminals are the ones who get them illegally and do the crimes. Perfect example of something that can't be controlled is drugs! Drugs are illegal and nobody can go buy them in a store, but look at the problem there! Gun control would end up with the same results. Only the criminals would be able to get them. It's not gun control it's criminal control! It's funny how people are so quick to ban something that they have no part in or interest in. USPA fights for our rights. How many people do not skydive? Those people don't give a rat's ass if skydiving was banned or not. I don't do hook turns but I would never support a move to ban them! Just like the guns, a hook turn doesn't kill the jumper, the error in performing it does along with that jumpers dicision to do it. I don't like to play golf either but don't want to see it banned. I'm not a member of the NRA (anymore), but they fight just like USPA. If you give these people an inch they will go for that mile. You have to make that stand up fight early on.
  24. Well I'm not considering downsizing, I was just asking what size reserve would be best for me.
