  1. I don't think it's financial all the time. I get that same response from people who make a lot! I actually get tired of people asking about it because it always ends the same way 95% of the time. When they say "I always wanted to do that" Now I just say.."Whatever" or "Then do it". When people find out how easy it is today to make a jump they always fall back on the cost as a way out. I have more respect for people who say that they couldn't do that. But the cost does stop a lot of legit people too.
  2. Any opinions on the curv z sunglasses for jumping? likes, dislikes?
  3. Holy shit. $15 jump tickets to 13.5k? Or have they not updated their site in about 12 years or so? No wonder why people love California!!
  4. Thanks for posting the pics!! Do screws come with the box for mounting or do I have to buy them separately?
  5. You are right. I think I'm going to go with the 2K composit box.
  6. Heard from Square 1. The Nvertigo-X top flat spot is too small for the pre drilled holes on the horizontal mount. Guess the vertical mount or the box are my only real options now.. Back to the drawing board..Ha
  7. Thanks, I will do that. wiah there was a place close to actually go in and physically look at it
  8. How do you like it? Does it fit well? Also I have seen the square 1 mount and that is also an option. I do prefer a lower profile mount for the top. Thats one reason I got the contour since the lense rotates. The horizontal mount from square 1 looks nice too but I'm not sure if it will "fit" nicely on the nverigo-x top flat spot.
  9. Does anyone use the countor HD box made by 2k composites? Looking for the best option for mounting on a Nvertigo-X helmet. Seems like the least snag prone option. The box seems like it could be good for a side mount to resist riser slap but I don't know. Need advice from you experts out there. I still have a few jumps before I'm ready to fly with a camra though. Just trying to find the best and safest mount.
  10. Thanks! I downloaded the free trial of video pad.. seems pretty cool. Now just have to figure out how to use the stuff. Not too computer savy.
  11. Looking for advice on a decent software program for editing videos taken with a contour HD 1080p camera. Not looking for profesional quality but basicly to chop and some special effects and adding music. Thanks
  12. I was out at the DZ today where a student jumping a spectre 230 got spanked hard and broke lines and he had to cutaway. Not normal for spectres!! obviously a bad pack jump or line dump. I jump a tri and I love it but no matter what I do in packing she always has a little "snap" just after the snivel. Nothing hard but noticable. Friends who have spectres say they are really sweet and soft opening canopies.
  13. ok, mine has been about 4 weeks now. Maybe I'll call my rigger tomorrow..Closed today. Thanks for the replies!
  14. Anyone know the current approximate lead time for cypress 4 year maintenance?
  15. My brother was making an AFF jump at quincy that was videoed. His protec helmet came off and the instructor tried to grab it..It was funny to see. Not one got hit by it though
  16. I always do. Usually a dollar a pack job. Always get nice openings and I noticed my rig usually gets priority. Sometimes I throw in $5.00 on top of that. I even tip my rigger on repacks too. The first time I told my rigger to just add $15.00 to the bill. You should have seen the look I got..Totally surprised but extremely gratefull. But this rigger is always willing to help with an equipment question or issue and does minor things and won't charge for some things that I would expect some kind of small cost associated with it. So tip? Hell yeah
  17. Nice video!! Your son looked great on that jump. Like a natural. Congrats!!
  18. On canopy manufacturers web sites they give a wingloading recommendation for a specific canopies. 0.9 novice, 1.1 intermediate, 1.3 advanced. Now I know a lot has to do with each individual jumper's ability but there must be an average. This would be for a 7/9 cell like a sabre, pilot, storm..ect... Not high performance. Whats everyones opinion?
  19. Unless you have a reason to like the lines really long in flight, why risk forgetting to take the wraps for landing? You are right but I wasn't clear.. For me my lines are fine for landing as is. I just needed to wrap them in order to stall it.
  20. I have a tri 210 (Aerodyne) I took a canopy course too and I had to stall it. I could not stall the tri with the lines as is. So the instuctor said to just wrap the lines around my fists a couple times and that worked. Just do that and you won't need to shorten them. With mine the way it is I don't have to worry about stalling the canopy during the flare. Trust what PD recommends..They built it and they know best!!
  21. Yep. That. Ask experts who have seen your flight/landings. If they are OK with it then you might be. The only way to be sure is to jump it, and then you have to land it. It is a 100% commitment and you won't know until you try. Have a valid reason to want to downsize (ie. not "to fit my container" or "it should be easier to pack") and ensure you can repeatedly do the things on the various canopy skills lists on the larger canopy before going smaller (eg. accuracy, landing down and crosswind, up and down hills and on the rears). Quote You are right, Master things and know your canopy completly before downsizing. If you have never done any of the things mentioned above about landing and flight control etc on a bigger more docile canopy then you are not ready to go smaller. Smaller and faster is not the time to try and do something you have never done. after 100 jumps on my Tri I went through the canopy course and learned even more stuff about my canopy I never knew before. I highly recommend a canopy course. Be safe and live to jump other days
  22. Depends on what your instructors have told you if anything. When I completed training, I asked my instructor what would be a good size for me. He recommended based on my canopy control a 170 main and 176 reserve and I weighed 195 without gear! I was jumping a 220 at the time. Well that made me a little nervous so I decided on a 210 triathlon main with a PD 193 reserve which I have made about 130 jumps on. The triathlon IMO is a nice canopy and somewhat forgiving. your weight and a 220 tri isn't scary but only you can decide if you are ready for that. Take a canopy skills course. I took the Scot Miller course and what a difference that made!! Now I'm ready to down size to pilot 188. I also have dropped some weight and weigh 182 without gear.
  23. actually I do. Had her for 18 years. She's great. She always has been supportive of me jumping. She simply suggested selling it since I was dormant but that woke me up!! I'm lucky..I get to have both
  24. Coming back home to skydiving. Haven't made a jump in 3.5 years. Just dropped my rig off for repack and will get current in next week or two..Glad I didn't listen to my wife when she said sell your gear!! Wow 180 day repack. Man have i been out of the loop a while. I have a lot of catching up to do!! Blue skies everyone!!
