    I'm new, so I don't know what I'm talking about. The slider noise is normal on student gear and lots of other gear as well. Not all gear will make the noise, however. There's no telling what happened, but it sounds like you did a gerat job with the situation you were given.

    If nothing else, I hope you can learn that it takes a lot more than saying it; it takes behaving like one to truly be a good person. You regret the outcomes of your behavior but you don't regret the behavior. You're like the kid who gets caught stealing a cookie. He doesn't regret the stealing; he regrets getting caught. The truly good people don't ever find the need to tell anyone they are. They just are. Hope you can figure out how to get there. This is a great example of why I always stop scrolling and read anything that NW Flyer has to say. You need to listen to her. Dude: As I read the first part of your post, my ASSHOLE radar went into red alert. Stop being an asshole and the world will beat a path to your door. To hell with the tears in your bed and all that other nonsense. Change yourself.

    Blow Hole Cave. Cavers have a saying about newly discovered openings that have wind coming out of them: "If it blows, it goes." Which means that if it blows, it is worth exploring.

    I bought a great used rig (under the supervison of my instructor) before I was off student status. I had people tell me to wait and downsize. My thoughts were that the earlier I bought gear, the more suited it would be for a beginner and I would not be tempted to buy a canopy that was too small. Now that I have it, I know it will be a very long time before I even think about buying again. Consequently, I won't be getting in over my head by jumping a canopy that's too small, too soon.

    I have a Dolphin D-4 with a tempo 210 reserve and a PD 230 9 cell F-111 main. Both fit fine.

    Wasn't the decline in hang-gliding partly because of the rise of paragliding, which gives you pretty much the same thing with less hassle? Another factor maybe, especially comparing to sports such as motorbike riding is the whole "instant gratification" thing. . You're right. I forgot about paragliding.

    Is that such a bad thing? Skydiving is not for everybody any more then bridge is. Yes, it is a bad thing. Hang gliding reached it's zenith several years ago and has been on the decline since. Gear manufacturers are fewer than they were before. Fewer pilots meant fewer places to fly. A lot of the hang glider pilots blame the decline on the tandem hang glider ride, which allowed people to taste the thrill without much of a personal or social investment. I'm all for tandems, but there needs to be a better way to get them back.

    What you really need to worry about is the drastic alteration making your first jump will have on the rest of your life. From that point on, everything will be judged by and compared to that one event!! Enjoy it and jump again.

    Let me get this straight: Next time that I have a normal opening, if I reach up, put both hands in my toggles, but release only one of them I am committing a dangerous act?? Would I not be able to release the second one at the first sign of being in over my head?

    Next time I go out, I'll pop one brake and see what happens. I bet that with my big docile canopy, it will be a non-event. Might be a another good argument for big docile canopies.

    Just because you are related to her doesn't mean you have to have contact with her. If your breakoff with her upsets other members of the family, break off contact with them as well, regardless of who they are.
