  1. QuoteAlthough the city of Harrisonville did not approve our lease for office and hangar space, we will still be opening April 1st. I'm impressed!! Way to go!
  2. Where is Playlinda Beach? Nevermind!! I googled it and it's a NUDE BEACH. You trying to get me killed??
  3. Thanks for all of the advice, folks. i can't wait.
  4. Great news!! I was talking to the kids about the trip and they both said they did not want to go to Disneyworld, they want to go to the beach!! Man, that will save some serious money. Looks like Titusville wins. What's the best beach/resort in the area? Is the week of March 20 the week that theya re overrun with college studebts?
  5. How did you make it work splitting time between family & jumping, or is that what you are talking about? Ken
  6. Hi Folks, I'm going to Disney World with my wife and kids the week of March 20. I intend to split the time between D.W. and jumping, with the following jumping goals: 1) Get enough jumps in 1 week to get my "A". If not my "A," at least get to self supervision 2) Transition to my gear that I recently bought I have 9 jumps. (s/l progression) Will probably have 10 or 11 before I go. Questions: 1) Which DZ is closest to Disney World? 2) Would that DZ be appropriate for the above scenario? 3) What advice do you have to offer? Thanks, Ken
  7. How many of you have seen Hugh Laurie in "Jeeves & Wooster?" The House character is miles apart from Bertie Wooster. It's a tribute to his acting abilities.
  8. It does not matter what either of you do. You are both hopelessly messed up. Call me crazy, but try this: Get a better job sell the house and get a smaller one cut other expenses.
  9. What about "Kick Start My Heart" by..... What was their name? Had a cool video< with skydiving, on MTV, back when they played videos.
  10. My dog is the same way. It's the first dog I've ever had like that, too. On the plus side, he's castrated and hasn't gained any weight.
  11. I assume you are using the FM modulator?? Make sure the radio station you are using on your car radio matches the radio station that is set on your XM unit. Wait a minute, it probably is otherwise you would not be able to pick up the preview station. I'll go look at the user's guide and see if I get any ideas.
  12. I'm a hard ass and won't let my kids have computers in their rooms. We have 2 computers that are networked and they are right next to each other in a small den that is open to the rest of the living area. At any time, I can see what is on my kid's screen. It's nice. *** Right on!! Only one TV, one computer, one stereo in our house. No one gets to "hide." I know every song they listen to, every show they watch, every friend they talk to. Just bought XM satelite radio so they won't have to listen the garbage on the the top 40 stations. We are not total Nazis. We make sure they have plenty of fun, too. However, they know what we expect from them and they know that we won't get off their case until we get it.
  13. *** Flayangel is absolutely right. You need to completely disregard all these folks who are worried about "losing trust" with your daughter. It's already gone. What you need to be concerned with is her welfare and safety. Curtail her activities and intrude into all aspects of her life and don't let anyone discourage you.
  14. Uh, you have to have electricity and phone lines before you can have a computer with a mailing list... :) Eule (in Tulsa, but who has visited Chester, AR) 2. You might also ask in the 'Events and Places to Jump' forum. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?forum=19;
  15. If there is, please e-mail me at kbgoff99@yahoo.com Thanks, Ken
  16. Blind Brick said.... I am going to post my opinion here. I want to make it very clear that this is my opinion and nothing more. It's a good thing you were there and that you are speaking up now. It has been enlightening for everyone, which helps us enlighten the thousands of people we come in contact with. This is skydiving and people get hurt. No one else understands or wants to understand. They want sensation, not explanation. We provide voyeuristic entertainment for everyone else. Everyone is getting plenty of what they came for. As a newbie, one thing I'm taking away from this and all of the incidents I read about is that a student needs to take responsibility for his/her own safety. THere's way too much to learn to expect to be taught all of it. Absorb as much as you can as fast as you can because when you are new is when you will be most likely to need it. Read, read, read, and ask, ask, ask.
  17. I was surrounded by people within 5 minutes of arriving at work. One thing that amazed me was how many conflicting stories people at work were telling about the story as they heard it on the news. I talked to Shayna at the DZ about a month after the accident. She seemed pretty level headed about the whole thing and said straight up that she will kick herself the rest of her life for chopping a perfectly good canopy. One thing we all need to keep in mind is that all we are hearing is the news account of Shayna's account of what happened. The news people are not interested in giving information. This was just an opportunity to get people to not turn off their sets for another few minutes. She may have given them the complete and accurate skydiver's version of the story but all they used were the "juicy" parts.
  18. QuoteHow much do you weigh? I weigh 193 without gear.
  19. About 2 months ago I bought a PD 230 manufactured in Feb '96 with 70 jumps on it. I had a rigger look at it before I bought it, but I have not seen it until tonight when my curiosity got the best of me. I was going to wait until I took it in for inspection and repack. That would have been a while since my instructor wants me to wait several more jumps before I transistion to BOC. I'm glad I opened it because is looks awesome. A great color combination and it looks brand spanking new. Anyway, here'a a couple of questions: 1) I used to jumping a Manta 288. What kind of change in flight characterisics can I expect? I cleared the purchase with my instructor, so I know it will be docile, but am wondering if I'll notice much difference from the Manta. 2) Is this canopy Z-P or F-111? Thanks, Ken
  20. I commute 90 minutes per day. I don't have many CDs because I tend to overplay them and get sick of them very quickly. Radio choices in Northwest Arkansas consist of: Wheelchair Rock Top 40 with lots of ganster rap Country and Western NPR XM satellite radio in my car would change my life. Wal-Mart has an XM receiver for $28. I have many times that amount in my nightstand because my jump money is piling up since the last 5 weeks have been too windy for student jumping or I have not been able to go on the days that have not been too windy. I want to drop the $28 and buy it, but all I can think of is: Are you nuts? THAT WOULD PAY FOR HALF OF A JUMP!!
