Just got my A card in the mail today, got A-50246.

Ouch, rough. But man the suits do look sweet as hell. I've seen them in person and the quality is top notch. I want to put a custom logo on the suit, so I'm sure that will raise the price quite a bit.
-
Just wondering what the typical turnaround time for a custom freefly suit from Ouragan takes, and what the suit cost you after customization. Thanks!

For me there's a lot of budgeting involved. I don't go out much (if at all) during the week. It's work, come home, chill out and go to work the next morning. But on the weekends, I'm jumping my ass off. Pretty even trade for me! Once you get more involved you WILL find ways to pay for it. It sucks that you're in college, I'm sure that doesn't make things any easier. But hey, graduate, get a good job, and then jump as much as you want! Buy gear, used gear preferably. Yeah, gear is a big out of pocket cost all at once, but once you have gear you will save a ton of money beacuse you won't be renting gear. Something to think about. Oh, and start to accumulate small pieces of gear here and there where money permits. Helmet, altimeter, jumpsuit, goggles, gloves.. whatever it may be. This will help, too, instead of trying to buy everything all at once. Good luck!

Thanks Cacophony. That's what I've been doing. My accuracy is good, and my flares are really good. I've had one bad landing on the Tri after hitting turbulence at about 10 feet and not having any flare, landed right on my ass. But the only thing that sucks for me on this canopy is the fact that I'm so lightly loaded on it. If I have a bad spot on a windy day it's hard to make it back because I don't get much penetration. Same thing on a no wind day. So I've been working on taking that into effect when setting up my patterns. Yeah, I don't do the 360s low. I stop at 2000 feet. I've been wanting to pull higher just so I can work on them. I have no intention on getting into swooping any time soon, but I have been having a blast working on riser stuff. I think that when I do have the skills to start swooping it will make the learning process a bit easier to have practiced the techniques a bit.

I think it's the harness input that gets me into it. I was trying it before by just pulling on both dive loops. After that I started putting some input into the harness.. kind of pulling myself up almost and towards the direction of the turn, and letting up on one of the dive loops. That got me into a real sweet 360.

I actually like this one much better than any of the previous designs. Who cares if it hurts peoples eyes - it's your rig! Red and orange looks cool, I like it.

Hey guys, I've been playing around a lot lately with my front risers up high (3000ft and above) and I've been having a lot of fun doing 360s on my front risers. Problem is, once I hit 360 degrees, the front riser gets so hard to hold down that I have to let it up. The canopy I have is a Triathlon 160, loaded at about .8:1. I figure that may have something to do with it, but I was wondering if a different canopy will allow me to hold that spiral longer. Thanks!
-
I have a Triathlon 160. I just bought a Hornet 135 and I packed it up (not hooked up to my rig yet) but it was the same volume, if not BIGGER than my Triathlon. The fabric is definitely heavier, and I'm switching from a 7 cell to a 9, but I was surprised at how much volume that thing has!
-
Man, who was the last person to pack the reserve? Might be worth contacting him to find out what kind of condition the thing was in last time it was inspected. Painting the lines white.. that is just unbelievable.
-
Doug.. My tail wraps come undone I'd say 40% of the time. My canopy still opens slow as hell. It's not a Pilot, it's a Triathlon, but I don't think the tail is where the slow openings come from. I quarter my slider as well. How do you do your S-Fold to get the canopy into the bag? Have you talked to any of the other UCONN guys/gals about their openings? I wanna watch you pack this weekend (minus stuffing the canopy into the bag because I've seen you do that haha) and see how similar your technique is to mine.

Oh I can juggle, too. Forgot about that one!

-I can tell you what card you picked from a shuffled deck. -I can bend a fork or spoon by simply shaking it. -I can make a pen move without touching it. -I can pull cards out of the air. -I can make a coin completely disappear. -I can make your chosen card appear on the other side of a window. -I can levitate... Common guys, this topic is too easy. Actually, something I'm pretty proud of is the fact that when I was about 9 years old I taught myself how to do front and backflips. Always thought ninja movies were cool and wanted to do the crazy flips they could do. Took a bean bag and put it on the grass and just tried jumping backwards and whatnot until I could do a backflip. Moved down to a mattress as support and once I was comfortable took everything away. I later taught myself some other types of flips and whatnot. I can walk on my hands for a while, too.

Just stay for the whole month, dude. Fuck it!

Going to Lake Wales for the Great White North Boogie. Thanks everyone for the advice and the attachments! Very much appreciated.

I'm going to be traveling with my rig in a couple of months and plan on carrying it on the plane. I bought the rig second hand, and don't have the Cypres card that explains what it is for the people at the airport security that may want to open my reserve. Is there a place where I can download this and/or the letter that explains that sport parachutes are allowed as carry-ons? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks..

Does it every get old or routine?
MagicGuy replied to Kynan1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, I only have 75 jumps so everything is all very new and exciting to me. But what I think is the best part is the fact that I learn something (or things) on every jump, and my skills improve as well. And wait 'til you start jumping with one or a few other people. That's when it gets really awesome! -
Oh great, so you want me to buy a 'scary' canopy. I see how it is.. Come out to the Perrine in March so you can jump with me!!
-
It's funny, because the first time I did that, I found myself the most relaxed in freefall. It was a pretty cool experience, and on every sunset load I find myself looking around a whole bunch.

My goals, in no particular order: Stay Safe! Get my B License Make a Balloon Jump (or several) with said B License Start doing some Freeflying Attend Bridge Day '07 and of course.. Have Fun!! My goals for 06' were only to stay safe, have fun and get my A License. I accomplished those!
-
Yeah Doug, just because you had successful rodeos doesn't mean that you have to friggin' BRAG about it Me and Fish are gonna nail it next time!
-
This is certainly not a funny topic, and I'm glad that you are are OK, but this line just made me laugh my ass off.
-
HA! Sane in the sense that I can relieve some stress from work and other shit by making jumps on the weekends. Want to start BASE, still need some serious experience before I do, though. Trying not to rush into it (although I am really looking forward to it). Great White North Boogie is in the works. Got an email with some really awesome round trip rates through Southwest. Sounds like a good time!
