  2. Ah what a dumass! Sincere apologies for the BS posted previously.
  3. Finish your studies, move to another state, make some money, get more skydives, get more technical knowledge.
  4. I don't realyy understand what you guys are on about. According to these calculations, a 36 doesn't even generate a pound less in drag. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

    cutaway?

I usually use a dingas The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen
  6. No I don't. I do too few slider up jumps (although that's not really a justification is it?). Hook knife on both rigs. I forgot it once and got all paranoid and walked down... The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen
  7. That's six mals on the same canopy... Good going! The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen
  8. Also, gaffer tape won't leave marks on your rig like duct tape would. Where were you allowed to do a skydive with a velcro rig?
  9. Tighten a piece of dacron with your hands. The fingers in your right hand turn the tensioned dacron one way and your fingers in the left hand turn the opposite way. A knot occurs and that is a tension knot. This can happen on your brake lines and a way to prevent it is by untwisting your brake lines before every pack. If you don't, in time these twists build up and you run the risk of getting a tension knot. Tension knots like to fight with sliders and guide rings and they're just a pain... I have also heard of this occuring with line dump from bad velcro in the tail pocket and while I understand how line dump works, i don't really understand how you could get a tension knot from this. Hope this makes sense. I usually need to draw or use my hands to explain things... The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen
  10. Nice:) None of the pics are in free fall. Does this guy jump at all? If not it's quite a comitment to follow BASErs around. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

  13. True, there has been a lot of talk about that. According to the reviews, it's low light capabilities are not too bad for a 3 chip. The assumption seems to be that if you are buying a 3 chip, forget about low light. I have done 1 BASE night jump, so quality of the footage was more a concern than low light on buying this toy. I wanted a broadcast quality camera I could jump with and the PC 1000 fulfills this criteria. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen
  14. Well, I had heard that the old 3 chip cameras didn't handle openings too well. More precisely, the 3 sensors would get bumped out of alignment after a couple of jumps. Just wondering if this could be a problem with the 1000. From the feedback it's obviously not. Thanks. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

    riser hardware?

The proper term for the piece of metal hardware connecting the shoulder strap to the riser: The Large Ring. Not all are marked with RW since not all are manufactured by RW. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen
  16. Hey that sounds a bit like me; well the 250 skydives and havn't jumped in 6 months part... If you have 250 skydives, you will be at least B or C license and should know what your currency requirements are. Untill recently, due to demanding work obligations, I had gone pretty uncurrent with both BASE and skydiving. I hired a 170 as opposed to using my 120. Did a 20 sec stable delay with practice touches and opened high on the first jump. Then did a few solo track dives and hop n pops before going back to jumping with others and flying the 120. As for 250 skydives over 4 years, it depends (IMHO). If for instance you could only make the dz on week-ends, were packing to pay for the jumps and helping a rigger out some evenings during the week, you are likely to have picked up quite a bit of technical knowledge. If on top of that there is not one BASE related web site you havn't thoroughly scrutinized, and you have harrassed all the dz BASErs for any info, ground crewing/ camrea handling you could get, then all there is left to do is get current with a few skydives. If on the other hand, you went to the dz on week ends only once in a while, got others to pack for you and havn't jumped in 6 months because you've been kind of losing interest... It's what that other clever guy said: "it's all relative..."
  17. I think some Javelin harnesses were recalled because of a problem like this. I did a quick search but can't find the details. Maybe someone else knows more. And then not so long ago there was the horrible death of a paraplegic tandem passenger who fell through the harness on opening.
  18. ok ok I just thought it was getting a bit too blatent but obviously not. Sorry The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

  21. Thanks for the reply. Funny you should mention it being knocked loose. My previous camera was top mounted and i've been a little worried about BASE jumping with a side mount. I have only done 2 BASE jumps with a side mount and on one of these jumps the riser slapped the 'rec' button of the PC 109 I had borrowed. It stopped recording right on opening. I recon i've got the 1000 pretty secure though and will probably just have to get used to it. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen
  22. I do a lot of slider off jumps and I just purchased the Sony PC 1000. I am interested to know if any one uses this camera in a BASE environment and how it performs. Thanks Poc
  23. Here's a picture of my first E. Hope you like it. That one also framed and hanging on the wall of your BASEment? The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen
  24. Here's one I took of some Cape Town buddies Al Mc Queen and Rob Smallie jumping our favorite 'E'. Still think the one by Jay Epstein Ramirez is the best so far. poc The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen
  25. Dunno Jimmy. I thought JP had it nailed with what he wrote. I started skydiving by chance at a real low time in my life where I needed something like that. I started BASE jumping at a very strange time in my life. There had been three deaths of close family, I had just gotten married and there was a daughter on the way. BASE gives me the same as surfing. Like JP said, I'm scared and i get a boost from overcoming that fear. It's also my escape when life gets too much. I saw an interview before I even contemplated the idea of pursuing skydiving as a sport. Nick or some of the older guys can correct me but it was an interview of Frank Gambalie where he said something like: "BASE is not about defying death but rather living life to the fullest". These are probably not his exact words but in essence that's the message i kept from the documantary and the idea I had of BASE from there on.
