Pretty sick!! Nice to hear 'The Pixies' again. Never thought of putting it to BASE footage. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

Well that's just your opinion man. I happen to think that they're very light. Ugly? Well that just proves you've got no fashion sense. 'L'-bars are in and 3 rings are like sooo 1 hour ago. On a more serious note, although the things you say are often coded, they also make sense and bring up good discussion. And I'm hijacking a thread. again The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

get sewn in 'L'-Bars and buy a few GOOD hook knives. DISCLAIMER: Don't get either and rather get something you can cut away. Preferably reverse risers. There, I said it. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

I agree that Tom does a great job. I can think of one other person maybe. Tom has made some mistakes but they are never huge and it just shows a human side. Running a busy forum like this on your own must take a hell of a lot of commitment, and to do it for no $$$, chapeau!!! The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! 33 years old. Been in the 'milieu' since 2001 Active since 2003; did my first jump in september of that year. 173 jumps 'ASE', with this year being particularly bad, work and weather preventing jumps... poc The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

The big way at the ITW (Internet Terminal Wall). My wide angle was not wide enough to get everybody in frame but our favorites are there. managed to hook knife his line over opened all right despite the head down on his back. and just has saw balls. All in all, nobody really hurt. A few bruised egos and those who didn't respect the rules or tried to sabotage other jumpers gear got banned from the wall. Different form of expression but I'm not that good with words... The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

... I finally got to jump again. Almost a month and a half uncurrent. My father in law was having his 70th, something we just couldn't miss. Friday mid-afternoon, my wife Cathie and the two girls were in the car and we were off. 4 hours later, I turned off into the parking lot of the first bridge. It was kind of weird having the girls with me. It was way past sunset and getting very dark. I had been hoping to get two in; bummer. So there I was, all geared up walking along this bridge with trucks full of merchandise and cars full of week-enders roaring past. Checked the bugee bridge but they had long cracked their first beer. There were just a couple of new guys working on something to do with bugee jumping. Then I crossed the road to the usual exit. This is where you wait for the traffic to pass before climbing up. It tends to freak people out. Besides, screaching tires are not that good for focus when you're uncurrent... I was jumping the Ace. Karl had a cliff strike with that Ace, Erik fixed it and now I use it on bridges. Any way, nothing too eventful, just a go and throw at the perfect spot to get current and 20 minutes later I was back on the road. It was nice to feel like a real BASE jumper again. It might seem a little obsessive to have to stop and do a jump while with family, but then again, BASE is what I do. Saturday, after some preparatory labour work for the party, I started looking for somewhere to pack. I am way way uncurrent packing and it took me ages. One thing I saw was that the 'shoestring' on the risers is pointing up and doesn't get dragged along the ground like Tom A said. I really need to get my brain thinking parachutes again. Any way, chopped it and cleared the fine sand out from between the rings that I picked up on the last jump. Packed slider up. sms Tack to ask him if he wanted to jump the 730' 'S' the next morning. He replies telling me to meet at 5:30 am at the Engen garage in Plett. Cool, it's on. The party was great. I don't really like crowds and usually just take a safe distance and sip on my beer. I did just that but Cathie stuck with me most of the evening and that was nice. So the next morning I drive the 30 kms to the said garage. I'm a little early and go in to the Wimpy for a take away coffee. I really need that coffee. A lot of matriculants come to Plett to party at the end of the year. Unfortunately there are two right in front of me at the counter, still drunk. No rudeness though and I suppose I was like them once. The lady behind the counter is pretty slow also. Tak is here and the guy in front of me drops Vodka he had in his pocket. It's all over the floor. I decide to forget the coffee and we go to the bridge in Tak's car. Now I've done a few jumps off this bridge already but it still scares me. Despite this, there's nothing like walking out onto it with a buddy at 6 am feeling like the world has been deserted. I am going first. Climb up on the concrete. In the distance, at the gorge, I see there's a good swell running. "Vic-Bay must be going off!" "Cheers Tak" Slightly head down but no kicking like I usually do when uncurrent. Conservative 3.5 sec I think and on-heading. Negotiate the dodgy landing area and decide to go dry. Still convincing myself that my Mojo's better. Watch Tak go off. I think it was the first time I saw him do a flat and stable. The closest I've seen him come to that before was a floater... The first time I jumped here, the climb back up was scarier than the jump itself. Mud and flakey rock that crumbles under hand, all on a steep slope. Now I'm used to it but today there were tics everywhere. I don't think any bit me though and I'd hate to get tic bite fever again... Half way up we chat about BASE jumping and stuff. Tak is probably one of the luckiest guys in the world right now. Tandem master at Skydive Plett, swooper extraordinaire and a 730' bridge all to himself... Back in Cape Town after 6 1/2 hours driving and it all seems so surreal. Too much internet BASE jumping lately and I suppose it's all about balance. Hopefully I'll get to jump the rock before a month has passed. Internet BASE is ok but there's nothing like the real thing. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! I thought either this is photoshoped by a buddy of yours taking the piss or there's some rational explanation because this is just too big. So it turns out it was the second... The one about the built in turn made me laugh though. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

Got lots of slider off on a Mojo 260 with full zp top skin. Pretty much all my off headings were bad body position (You're already thinking "oh shit" in freefall). One that was difficult to explain. It was my packjob but we swapped rigs for a 2 way off a bridge. My buddy ended up with a 180 and full line twist almost landing on a canoe and some guys working for the bungee jumping operation. We put that one down to the strong cross wind... The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

L-Bars Although I really don't see anything wrong with 3 rings. There's hardly any force on that "shoestring" if the system is properly built, so I don't see how it would wear out. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

Ha, had totally forgotten about this thread. Yes pretty much. On the climb up, the guys at 'groundrush' insert stills of the namibian sand dunes saved on their cards. If I understand correctly, you are talking about doing it on the spot, holding the camera on your hand to show the alti. I want to take a pic off the card and insert it on the video. Any way I can't verify it now since the optical is buggered on my pc 1000. No saying how bummed I am especially since it didn't happen while jumping. If anybody has kids, keep your camera out of their reach at all times... (as if that's not obvious enough already) Thanks for the reply Tim

For me, yes that applies but not TVPB. Most of the people responding had a "if this is true" written in some form. As for this whole thing, I would like to apologize especially to the two other jumpers. Losing a friend is terrible, and reading crap about him and yourself after that, well, if it was me I'd find it hard to accept an apology... I would also like to apologize to the readers of this thread who have to sift through 2 pages of BS before getting any hard fact. I am responsible for starting this and you'd think that with all the time I waste on the internet lately I'd know better... poc

From FBA Translation: "Rectification of the info regarding the accident, it wasn't a beginner, the jump he did with pc in hand was indeed his first at LM but he was doing it slider down to better film his two friends in freefall. During the last jump he was in a back track, would have turned around to dump and end up in the rocks." Now this is a totally different story. It's very possible the guy could have been joking when he said it was his first BASE jump. There are still some things that disturb me but I'll shut up from now. A good reason not to take a boskak at the top, or at least not to bring tp. Still find it hilarious somebody would bring a roll... From the FBA: Translated: "Hello everyone I just got back from Lauterbrunnen last night 17/11/06 at 6pm. I met a group of 3 hungarians at LM. I spoke with them and they were all euphorical about jumping here. From their speech and the briefing of the jump, I thought that they must have been quite experienced. Until the moment I saw one of the three with his pc in hand. I ask him what he is doing. His reply is that it's his 1st BASE jump. His friends seemed to be saying "mind your own business". They also asked him to come back facing the cliff after opening so that he could film their jump. I watched it from a distance with a friend. After exit we watched them and they scared us with their poor tracking abilities. After our jump we got on the road back to France. I hear of this accident through a girlfriend who stayed jumping with them and saw the accident. My best wishes through this challenge to the 2 hungarians and may the one who had bad luck rest in peace." The last sentence was tweaked a bit since it doesn't translate too well. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

Apparently this would have been his second BASE jump. His first was a hand held off the same spot. When questioned about it, the two other hungarians with him got all defensive and adopted a "mind your own business" attitude... His two buddies must be a bit dodgy to go and dispatch him off a rock on his first jumps ever... That's just stupid! The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Someone on the FBA forum says it was a hungarian beginner who took too long a delay at LM. Impact in the rocks during opening. RIP The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

Yes there is: to take a crap After landing, my canopy ended up in the patch of grass the crawfish poachers use as a toilet the other day.
