U.S. regulators say Silicon Valley Bank customers will be made whole
Phil1111 replied to rmsmith's topic in Speakers Corner
That would be three years in the slammer and a 43 million fine plus interest. I know that the GOP would want leniency and compassion for him. But what can I say. I'm a bit of a hard nose. AFAIK from CNBC reporting CVB just got caught by rising Fed rates. There is no reporting of improper conduct. I haven't heard any reporting on the Signature bank failure. -
U.S. regulators say Silicon Valley Bank customers will be made whole

President Biden's statement on this matter today is right on the money. The only thing he missed is that the banking executives leave without pensions, bonuses paid within the last 12 months. Or any other type of golden parachute -
Agree. Ukraine has just successfully deployed its first JDAM-ER. Most likely from a Mig-29 Its a guidance flight kit which turns an ordinary 1000-2000 lb bomb into a 45 mile range guided bomb. This standoff ability keeps the AC out of the range of SAM. In most cases. Perhaps its time to revisit Putin's bridge. IMO, for Slim King, its a lot more humane weapon than the little 40mm grenades dropped from drones. After all we don't want Slim's relatives to suffer.

Yes agree. It has to be like an Alcohol Anonymous approach. Because people have to decide they want to move in a certain direction. You can't ram it down anybody's throat. But solutions for most problems should be available. Even if its providing free tattoo school for someone. Just as an example. But such freedom of action and the cash behind it is hard to authorize.

Mostly agree. A debit card is a good idea instead of cash. Mostly agree. A clawback of income should never be 100% so it encourages work. Social workers are the most important part of the equation. When monitoring of spending on debit cards is combined with counseling. Mandatory drug or alcohol treatment programs. Many people can be moved out of dependency. Into productive members and families within society. Politicians hate hiring social workers however. The effectiveness of all such programs has been studied in Europe and the Nordic countries. But with the GOP involved in the equation its a hopeless dream for America. IMO drug use would not necessarily increase. Theft and related street crime pays for most of drug use now. There have also been studies in this area.

Given the quotations from that fatally flawed document often quoted in these forums. Used as justification for hatred, racism, bigotry, prejudice, etc. Perhaps its a mistake to associate it with any form of guidance. Despite any representations of positive guidance associated with that book/ religion. Given the posts in this forum. I can find only one SC Christian regular who seems to be absent those negative qualities. BIGUN. Perhaps he doesn't read it.

"Islam is growing more rapidly than any other religion in the world, according to a new report by the Pew Research Center that says the religion will nearly equal Christianity by 2050 before eclipsing it around 2070,"..." A new study from the Pew Research Center shows that America's Christian majority has been shrinking for years, and if recent trends continue, Christians could make up less than half the U.S. population within a few decades. The study found that Christians accounted for about 90% of the population 50 years ago, but as of 2020 that figure had slumped to about 64%. "If recent trends in switching [changing one's religious affiliation] hold, we projected that Christians could make up between 35% and 46% of the U.S. population in 2070," said Stephanie Kramer, the senior researcher who led the study." You're just an early adapter of science and fact. The worship of christ is dying out. Soon Imams will be buying up the old churches where the worship of the christian god has died out. Contractors will put minarets on them to replace the steeple and cross. After that the televangelists will have to sell their jets. Finally even heaven and hell will have to close.

MurDoch submitted an affidavit Rupert Murdoch testified that Fox News hosts ‘endorsed’ stolen election narrative. To the effect that election lies and representations by FOX prior to Jan 6. Were all a big surprise to him. Lying sack of shit. He has the same MO in Australia. The plaintiff should amend the claim in court to $15 billion.

Oh Hell! Has anyone forgot "Trump Giddily Praises ‘Genius’ Putin as Russia Sends Troops Into Ukraine" " trump direct quote“I said, ‘This is genius,'” Trump said on a right-wing podcast. “Putin declared a big portion of … Ukraine … as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful. … I said, ‘How smart is that?’ And he’s going to go in and be a peacekeeper. That’s strongest peace force. … We could use that on our southern border. That’s the strongest peace force I’ve ever seen. There were more army tanks than I’ve ever seen. They’re going to keep the peace all right. Here’s a guy who’s very savvy … I know him very well. Very, very well.”

On this we agree. Latest polling in Ukraine shows a 90% number polled that Ukraine will defeat Russia and win all its land back. OTOH Putin, Tucker Carlson and Hannity believe it will be Russia.

Putin only knows one response to any opposition to what he sets his mind to. Double down. Then double down again. He could easily call up another million men. He may eventually find a good general to lead them. Rest assured he has ordered 24/7 artillery shell production. NATO just can't do that. Ukraine currently has about a million men and women under arms. In reserve forces and regular military. Many of the artillery systems in Ukraine using old Soviet calibers will be completely out of ammo in another two months. That leaves them with NATO 155mm systems of which they may have 200?? artillery systems. NATO gave Ukraine over 700 rocket and artillery systems up to the start of December 2022. Soon they will be useless.

The UK is training Ukrainian solders, so is Germany and Poland. Keep in mind that Ukraine has been fighting Russian trained separatists since 2014. Most of the line of contact with Russia is quiet with little movement or engagement of forces. Ukrainian casualties have been consistent at about 100 killed a day So likely another 300 wounded. Russian casualties have been up to ten times that amount. Local defense forces may have had many of its best troops KIA or WIA. But Ukraine is concentrating in building up new units in reserve forces. Designed to be deployed if and when Russia launches its much vaunted "spring offensive".

January 4, 2023 "Talks of dictator Alexander Lukashenko's Belarus becoming Russia's vassal gained ground in 2020 when the regime violently crushed all forms of descent, with Moscow's full backing.{Including Russian troops and FSB backing] Two years later, Lukashenko's Belarus is barely independent from the Kremlin. The Belarusian economy is dependent on Russia's direct and indirect financial contributions, the Russian army is stationed all across the country, and its territory is used to launch missiles against Ukraine. Russia trains Belarusian troops, the country's opposition is in prison or exile, while the country's official language, Belarusian, is being actively suppressed by the authorities in favor of Russian. Belarus is also part of the Union State, a political union with Russia that used to slowly integrate Belarus into its warmongering neighbor. "

Probably not. Ah! the US military industrial complex and its political connections. Mostly agree. Russia is not likely to flip over to an open democracy after Putin is gone. Just as China is not going to go democratic after Xi dies. IMO the western NATO countries closest to Russia have the best feeling for Russian warmongering. From Latvia to Poland defense budgets are on the increase. From Finnish, Swedish and Germany appeasement of Russia is over. All knowing that the Russian military is a paper tiger. Soon Putin will be resurrecting the gate guardian T-34 tanks for service. But as long as sociopaths in Russia can use a subservient media. As long as Russia is a kleptocracy led by gangsters. It can jail opponents, draft more fodder and start more wars. If it decided that Belarus is full of previously undiscovered Nazis Would anyone stop it?

"A leaked internal strategy document from Vladimir Putin’s executive office and obtained by Yahoo News lays out a detailed plan on how Russia plans to take full control over neighboring Belarus in the next decade under the pretext of a merger between the two countries. The document outlines in granular detail a creeping annexation by political, economic and military means of an independent but illiberal European nation by Russia, which is an active state of war in its bid to conquer Ukraine through overwhelming force." Within seven years according to Putin.
