Just because you cannot find an article that you previously took notice of doesn't mean its been removed from anywhere. I almost always provide the quotations from where I make representations. IMO they are seldom read or re quoted. "statistically significant evidence" could mean a low percentage overall even defined as "weak" Entire industries and companies use "statistically significant" to market drugs, products, etc. That are nothing less than snake oil. IMO after two years of pandemic if people don't know how to use a mask they have not made an effort. Don't contaminate the interior or exterior of a mask when putting it on. Ensure that its tightly sealing around all of its edges. Ensure that its a quality mask like N95 or similar. Cloth masks are not as effective. Change frequently, Don't reuse unless its ... You nailed it here: "Sure, people may have falsely assumed that masks work 100%. That's their problem, and the best solution to that is education" Wandering into the abyss of discussion that masks are not effective is a slippery slope fallacy. I'm not saying that you are. But the interwebs, Facebook, etc. are filled with discussions that masks don't work. They are not infallible but there is a reason why they have been used in OR rooms for over a century Some people have an agenda in suggesting that they are not effective. Science says they are.

Well I used to think that as well, until. IMO an inexplicable marriage that runs counter to this thread.

Agree. I've long had the view that the quickest way to get old and die.Is to move into a seniors condo. People go from yard work to doing nothing.

I went to look at a piece of antique furniture a couple days ago. They said that someone living with them was immune-comprimised and living in the basement. So they put the piece of furniture out on their back deck to be viewed. An older man was out on the deck when I arrived wearing a mask. Upon arrival he immediately went into the home. The entire family was wearing masks inside the home and peering out the windows at me. I was also masked and told them i was triple vaccinated. Long term care homes also have to cope with the throw the doors open political philosophies of governments. Oh well, as long as some can throw their masks away, go to bars w/o restrictions. The party bus of the few can rule the road.

Its all just a bunch of quasi capitalists trying to create jobs for themselves. A uniquely American phenomenon like the Elvis is alive movement.

Thats how i viewed it but snowflake came to mind.

Its an interesting take on life to think that as Americans you have to hustle till you die. Otherwise you have a skewed view of life. IMO most plan to use their older years to pursue the dreams and adventures that many here have shared. Antarctica, Costa Rica, scuba, skydiving, etc. If a side hustle gives you enjoyment so be it. One more success is something not to be turned down given no detrimental costs. I doubt Joe's hustles, or lack thereof, has made him short of insight to life's enjoyments or pleasures. Sailing the Caribbean in retirement, or semi-retirement would be the dream life for many. Not one absent a complete view of whats important, nor any incomplete perspective of life. Two weeks ago I met a man who retired six months previously at 65. He had moved to a lake community just outside a national park to enjoy retirement. Then promptly had a stroke with a double bypass. I was buying a mountain bike from him as he could walk. But only very slowly. Prior to this he'd had no medical issues, was a avid cyclist and amateur athlete. After sixty even if you're in excellent physical condition. Medical issues can surface at any time that make an active retirement a dream.

Since masks, vaccines and social distancing are all wrong. I take it you've disavowed yourself of all such measures.

Thoughts on lithium iron phosphate batteries
Phil1111 replied to brenthutch's topic in Speakers Corner
I was just looking at this same equation this week. Cabelas has this "sale" on a what is not much more than a lantern battery. But I've been studying this guy's You-tube videos on building your own. He has a kw lot of subscribers. -
Well if you can't criticize his qualifications you attack his willingness to engage in theatrical comedy.

Oh winsor! The dichotomy of humor and racism. From a audience of GOP enablers. It's been a long, long week has it?
-
winsor second from the right. As usual Brent is far right.

We'd all be interested in something equally current and equally relevant. i.e. stupid.

This editorial may help explain the appeal of Joe Rogan. Status Anxiety Is Blowing Wind Into Trump’s Sails Its a NYT guest essay on the psychology of the right, white, male in America. It uses psychological studies to illustrate why GOP voters identify with the likes of Rogan and trump. Why "big dicks", testosterone injections, Brown immigration, etc. threatens the white male in America. Perhaps if everyone else better understood the tremendous pressures that those poor, sad, males face. They would understand why they act the way they do.

Post trump Legal Actions, Including his Enablers
Phil1111 replied to Phil1111's topic in Speakers Corner
Well in a every man is equal before the courts of law fallacy. Investigators have discovered gaps in the phone records of trump during January 6th events. Normally thats Destruction, alteration, or falsification of records. Thus could be eligible for up to 20 years in the slammer Nothing new here, an American president has always stood above the law. -
Vicarious living experience. Its just too bad that science camp, engineering camp, yoga etc. is not a part.

IMO Brent can start as many threads as he wants. His responses in his Global Warming threads was and still is trolling.Probably hard core trolling. But with respect to other threads he has started and participated in, not so. Or at least limited. winsor has single-handily kept woke on the go but he is not a troll. I find his endless response to that issue tiresome. But its others here that have enjoyed such discourse. I give Brent an endless hard time and as long as he is demonstrating some basis in fact. Some basis in reasonable thought behind his engagement. I'd say its discourse. Its a mistake to confuse tiresome right wing ideologues with trolling.

Are you anchored in Jamaica now? You should not hoist the sails for a bit.

Hey.....don't forget. If trump and the GOP are re-elected. We'll all become enemies again.

The problem with the NFL if you can call it a problem. Is that its just such a stupidly successful cash generating machine. This years playoffs could not have been scripted by Hollywood to be any better. I'll give to to hockey and to the NFL. At least their players don't drop as if they've been shot in the head by a 30-06. Every time an opposing player touches them. I've become a fan of women's and men's football(soccer). But it took some adjustment to see the acting that results in any contact with an opposing player. The efforts to draw yellow cards on opposing teams is shameful. Its a bit embarrassing to see a Canadian play/act that way. But when their winning.C'est la vie. After watching US players adapt to the phony 'injuries" so well, so deftly. I also adapted and cheered Canadian actors as well.

I'll defer to Wendy's instructions. But I'll admit that you, winsor and Ron add a perspective that heretofore I never knew existed. Prior to this thread I obviously knew Rogan from MMA events. But had no idea what he was all about. I guess if i was a trucker in the middle of nowhere and didn't have mp3 or reasonable radio reception. That his rambling could hold me captive for a while if enough humor was sprinkled around. Tucker Carlson for me is about 20 seconds.

Well I'll give Brent credit. At least he has moved on from climate change denial. and Joe Rogan is a good poster child for the right. Rogan's longest podcast is 5 hours and 19 minutes. So he could tie up the minds of right wing America for 1/5 of their lives if he really went at it.
-
The foundations of Brent's post is the historic under-participation of women in science and engineering. Which is typically the areas from which patents are generated. Now the equation is swinging the other way. Women are attending college in increasing numbers every year. "The coronavirus upended the lives of millions of college students. The Wall Street Journal reported this week that men have been hit particularly hard — accounting for roughly three-fourths of pandemic-driven dropouts — and depicted an accelerating crisis in male enrollment. A closer look at historical trends and the labor market reveals a more complex picture, one in which women keep playing catch-up in an economy structured to favor men....In 1992, 55 percent of college students were women. By 2019, the number had nudged up to 57.4 percent." Yet they are still underrepresented in engineering and the sciences. This goes to the heart of the matters for winsor, Brent and Mr. Rogan. They are under threat. They have been punched in the face. By the concepts that women will surpass men in incomes, even become entitled. That the white male wilt be emasculated by a women. Hence the reference by Rogan to women "You want bigger dicks than us?". A statement that goes right to the meat of Rogan's audience. The horror....the horror.

Why live in the US when you can visit for free?

and to your point: "“Ladies,” he went on, “you make people. You make all the people. And you want to be president, too, you fucking greedy bitches? What else do you want? You want bigger dicks than us?” “Ladies,” he went on some more, “I love you … but let’s be honest, you don’t invent a lot of shit.” is a typical line for the testosterone injecting (weekly), human growth hormone pill popping Red Bull guzzling Rogan. I see why it appeals to a fan like Brent. But like Brent his listeners don't analyze any deeper than the skin. Rogan is for almost everything left that Bernie Sanders stands for. As long as Rogan can sell vitamins, supplements and give a voice to Alex Jones As long as his podcasts can run hour after hour of a mix of Tucker Carlson's conspiracies. Intermingled with how the average American male can improve himself by eating wild game mixed with vitamins. There will be listeners wanting to fill vacant hours in their lives.
