I completely agree - our instructors try to video every training dive (well actually I would say the dz camera goes on every single load, tandem, training or otherwise!). I found it a big help with getting your legs/arms in the right spot etc etc. because you can actually see what you were doing wrong. How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Overcoming freefall anxiety on SL training
Silverchic replied to skydivermom's topic in Safety and Training
I think you SL students probably work out better when you actually pass your course - Most of my jumps have been AFF course or B Licence so now when I do a solo I'm still a little nervous. There isn't anyone else in sight! I'm not worried about stability or anything it just feels strange to be completely by yourself! =) How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? -
We have a spring loaded pc on the two tandems but all our student gear is throw out pcs. The burble sometimes gets you on the first couple of jumps though! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Overcoming freefall anxiety on SL training

Will you be jumping with an instructor? I'm sorry - I'm really not familiar with the SL course. In AFF we do (all jumps from 12,000ft) a training tandem where we pull at approx 6500ft, then 3 jumps with 2 instructors that are both there with us until we pull, then 1 jump with 1 instrutor, then 4 jumps where we have an instructor with us but not holding on, then a hop n pop from 3500ft. And a good general suggestion: Go for an older chute on your first rig. To start with it doesn't matter so much if you fall over, get it dirty but mainly IT'S REALLY HARD TO PACK A NEWISH CHUTE! =) Mine's got a couple of hundred jumps on it and it's still pretty hard to put in the bag. Put your knee on it and it just spreads out - silly thing. How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

I think I've seen it! I got it given to me the weekend after my accident =) It's a pretty old one? How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

I'd go the jump tickets too...more value for money! Underwear is overrated (but since I still have enough money for both I might keep wearing them!) =) Gives me an extra layer of clothing for when I crash land... Overcoming freefall anxiety on SL training

I think you will have a great time skydivermom! I didn't go through the static line course (straight into AFF) and managed to get through the first jump without a heartattack so you're one up on me! And yes I agree with the whole AFF students hop n pop being terrified! I've done one at 3500ft and 3 at 5000ft and it's waaaayyy to close to the ground to be leaving the plane for me...I like to be out of the plane at 12 and pulling my chute at 3 (the very lowest). I like the idea of a hop n pop from 12! =) How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? -
AFFI - thanks very much for that - I have just read it and it is extremely informative! To start with I did prefer to fly in half brakes and have since trained myself out of it. Now I might give it a go again! =) How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

By the way tigra - the silly female thing wasn't an excuse or an insult - it was a factual statement. I am female and you have to admit it was a pretty silly thing to do. And the "should be blonde" thing was just a joke - sorry if I offended you. And I have another month off to think about how silly it was! =) How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

My main problem is the last few seconds (the ones that can kill you) - I'm shocking at landing....in 25 jumps I've had 3 stand up landings and 1 was on my tandem! My set ups are usually good - am a little unaccurate at the moment because of a new canopy though. Ooooopps - very sorry tigra it's an old joke habit that I forget I'm saying sometimes. How about - I had a brain malfunction because I'm and IDIOT! A really big idiot... =) Right Jase? But at least my canopy didn't get hurt! Didn't even have to cut the tree down. It's very embarrassing so please don't anybody laugh too hard. It's one of those things that happen every now and then and when it happens you kick yourself so hard and say "WHY didn't I think of that?" Coming in to land on a standard set up and realised that I was going to undershoot the target (new canopy that I am still working out speeds etc) and that I was heading for the middle of a tree/bush. There was a clear area next to it but I didn't want to land crosswind so I tried to aim to just miss the bush without being too crosswind. It didn't occur to me that I could do half an S and not lose too much height to land in the middle of the clear area.... *cringe and wait for the smacks to start* I'm still thinking way too much in the student frame of mind that you don't turn under 3-500ft unless you need to S off to lose height. How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Silly female "should be blonde" skydiver (eg. me) had a brain malfunction coming into land and decided that one of the local bushes looked softer than the ground! It wasn't... Total injuries: 2.5 inches of shin bone showing, no nerve, muscle or bone damage, plenty of embarrassment and head smacking. I thought I would post because it has turned out ok and would probably give everyone a good laugh. Especially those of you who know what those Wickham bushes look like. Thankfully I know EXACTLY what I did wrong and can look back on it as a learning curve that didn't work out too badly. I love this place so much I thought I would have to write a review. I'm doing my AFF course here (live in Wickham) and Pete and Chrissy are the best! They have fantastic student gear and will give you all the training you need. It's a dropzone that caters for all skydivers: tandems, students and sport skydivers - nobody is left out. The weather is perfect pretty much all year round and you just can't beat the views! If you ever venture up to the NW you have to come and jump at Wickham!
