My local DZ has 4 student Wings so I did all my training on them and I loved them! I hear everyone complaining about how uncomfortable student gear is - well I would love to put my canopy back in one of those things! (Have an older, VERY uncomfortable container at the moment). I'm 5'4" and not skinny (75kg) and one of the students at the moment is well over 6' (maybe 6'3" or 6'4") and skinny as a toothpick but the Wings containers fit both of us! Highly recommended at our DZ!

I think it's time for "another story" now airtwardo!

I live in an area where there are a lot of Aboriginal people who get paid a lot to drink alcohol (won't open that can of worms though) so they aren't really worried about what their kids get up to...I've had the windscreen of my hilux smashed by bored kids wandering around with their gings (slingshots). Not to mention the wing mirror smashed, rocks thrown on the roof, things stolen from the backyard while I'm at work etc etc. I agree completely with RevJim on the fact that it's discipline that is lacking with most kids. I can see the difference with the kids next door - they are Aboriginal as well and the parents don't work but they don't let their kids get away with anything, they send them to school every day...and these are some of the politest kids I've met in a long time... I know I would have got smacked silly for talking to my parents the way some kids do these days - and I'm only half a generation in front of them! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

So glad to see this thread is still going! It's given me two days of entertainment instead of work! I only have a really quick one and its funny but not scary... Jump from a C172 with no GPS so it's a completely manual spot (the pilot is an experienced () jump pilot by the way). The spotter leans way out of the door to try and get a good spot and the pilot looks over at him worriedly and says..... "Don't fall out man!" Come on guys keep 'em coming! Anything can beat that one... How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

I could have stayed here for a week - wait...I DID! Maybe two weeks then? For someone with low jumps this place was the ultimate experience - my skill level had doubled by the time I left here. The people are all so friendly and helpful! I'm so glad I managed to get every jump on video - some of those moments are completely unforgettable! =) Hope you guys haven't given up on the fun jumps - you were just starting to get the hang of it... =P This dz is just unbelievable, the plane - WOW...I really like 14 grand and at that speed, the landing area - even more WOW...a whole airfield?? I thought they were kidding to start with! =) I will definitely make it back for Good Vibes one year...

Port Headland?! You didn't just say you enjoyed Port Headland???? Did you? Port Headland would have to be one of the places in Australia I would say: AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! The other one is just down the road from me - Roebourne. According to a travel show it is very "Historical", and "Picturesque"...I don't think they were talking about the same place though... Well for most of you it would be "foreignish": For all of you that have seen the Toyota ad - the good old Aussie... Bugger! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Gorgeous dog by the way!

Although some of us are really quite nice people! We do have our moments!

Unfortunately it's not just for skydiving - once we get on Red Alert you can't even leave your house and most of the time you wouldn't want to!

Plywood???? OMG! We don't usually drink the tap water here (too much calcium that makes it taste horrible) so most of us already have a good supply of bottled water...but the food and beer definitely grows legs and walks out the door... I'm pretty much sorted now - just need the beer which I will get after work. How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

They're good fun aren't they (the false alarms at least) - everyone rushes around getting food, filling up their cars, filling up their beer fridges etc etc. We're only a small town so the supermarket sells out of bread and milk within 2 hours and then there is standing room only in the whole shop... Do you usually get many come through? How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

You guys get cyclone season as well?? Sucks doesn't it? We're onto watch # 5 for this year! Unfortunately we aren't through the worst of it yet - the worst cyclones have hit here mid April... Can I be third in line? My kitchen isn't too bad but you can only just open the door on my spare room! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

I feel the need to vent..... I HATE CYCLONES! I haven't been able to jump for the past two weeks (first week I was sick and last weekend we didn't have a plane ) and NOW - when I'm not sick, we have a plane and I have a whole weekend: Cyclone Glenda is being a right royal pain in the *** and is heading our way just in time for the weekend! We're already on watch...just imagine how windy it's going to be by Saturday morning... How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Your Skydiving Goals for 2006
Silverchic replied to Dumpster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Definitely agree with the year with no accident! That would be a very good start, then: 1. New Wings container (ordered and paid for YAY! Now it just has to get through customs...) 2. B Licence (hopefully in the next month or so) 3. C Licence then maybe try some camera jumps 4. Start learning how to freefly and get a stable sit by the end of the year (have been waiting for the new container to start learning! ) How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? -
Traveling with your rig & security.
Silverchic replied to joewantaharley's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Want to hear a good joke? I just travelled from Australia to New Zealand with my rig and went through Perth, Melbourne(twice), Sydney, Auckland and Christchurch - all international airports - with no problems whatsoever! However, my home town tiny little domestic only airport I had major security issues apparently and couldn't take it on as hand luggage! It had to be checked - and I held the plane up for 15 minutes! But the international airports - well they let me walk straight through! You have to laugh sometimes don't you? What do you look for in a boogie??
Silverchic replied to Feeblemind's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just A boogie! I haven't been to one yet - first one coming up at Easter (SpinFX @ Wickham). How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? -
Sorry, this is $NZ which at the moment is so close to $AUD that I didn't bother to make the distinction. But for you guys in the US then it probably wouldn't sound as shocking! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

I love it! All these people saying "as soon as you get off student gear and onto your own you will be more comfortable!" I'm the opposite - I would kill to be able to put my canopy in the student rigs! I have a custom made Wings coming but at the moment my rig is a bit too long for me and I will generally have pins and needles in my toes by the time I come to land! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

I have pretty much called ahead to all the dz's I want to go to - I was expecting a bit of concern over my rig vs jump numbers so I didn't want to travel to a dz just to find out that I can't jump there or I have to hire gear. And I would rather not hire gear (not just for the $ factor either). I would prefer to be on a rig I know so that I can put more of my concentration into the more important things and not have to worry about learning new flare point etc etc. But on the original subject: I was just a bit surprised - they openly stated they love having sport jumpers there etc etc but then they throw on a $70 charge just to show you around... No I've decided the views from 12,000ft are NOT worth a $105 jump! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
-
That's what I thought! Needless to say I won't be going there to jump - because they charge you jump fees on top of that! I'd pay $80 for orientation and a nice high jump (and hopefully a beer at the end of it) and think the price was a little steep but still pay because apparently the views at this place are spectacular... A tandem would almost be cheaper! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
-
I'm just about to go on a holidy in New Zealand (based around where the dz's are of course!) and have been calling some of the dz's just to check a few things out and one of them - a mainly tandem outfit - said they love to have fun jumpers come and jump but they charge an orientation fee (of $70 or $80!!!) to show you around the dz and check your gear!!! Has anyone found this before? I have never heard of it before this! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

I would also suggest jumping the rig before you buy - what feels comfortable on the ground may not be so comfortable when you're under canopy! (I know - I didn't jump mine before I bought it and now I'm paying in bruises and pinched spots until my new container arrives!)
