Newbie Unintentional Spin Question
Silverchic replied to skrovi's topic in General Skydiving Discussions

Wickham usually has to shut down over late Jan-Feb because of the heat...we are getting over 40C on a regular basis but also the humidity is VERY high! Not fun squishing into a 182 with 4 other jumpers for the loooooong ride to height in a jumpsuit I can tell you! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Contacts or glasses to jump?
Silverchic replied to virginflyer3's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just a tip for anyone wanting to try out new contacts - Purevision! I've been wearing this brand for about 3 months now and I love them! They have a higher water content (among other improvements) so if you don't have really sensitive eyes (also not suggested for beginners) you can actually leave them in for 3-4 weeks! Mine are so comfy I put them in at the beginning of the month and take them out at the end! As someone who came off student gear about 20 jumps ago - I highly recommend the Wings! And just to prove it I have even ordered myself a brand new Wings (though not a student one). It has all the options, no need to retrain for different deployment or emergency procedures once off student gear, and the comfort factor is there! Come on Jase! Get a FIFO job!! We need our jump pig back so that we can actually jump! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

I'm surprised no-one has posted this one yet: "If at first you don't succeed, Skydiving is not for you!" And I have a t-shirt that says: Jump Land Pack Repeat. How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Do you tell your employer that you do skydiving?
Silverchic replied to bastichu's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm in Admin in one of those "cube farm" companies - Rio Tinto...luckily I'm on a mine site so we don't actually have those offices here. But I've got one of those really cool bosses that is actually reasonably interested (eg. I will be able to convince him one day) in doing a jump. But I also think in any job being able to think on your feet is an advantage - and these days most employers will see it as such. It shows you can handle pressure - nothing at work will ever be as extreme as skydiving (to them anyway) so you should be able to handle any situation. Also I've found that no matter what people say, such as "You have to be crazy to jump out of a perfectly good airplane" (which of course the answer is: You haven't seen the plane) they are actually in awe of people who CAN do it... My $0.02.... How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? -
Some thoughts after the Holiday Boogie
Silverchic replied to johnny1488's topic in Safety and Training
Yay Icarus! Thank you so much for creating the Safire2! I love mine so much that I doubt I will ever want to jump anything else! No seriously - my 169 is perfect to fly - and other jumpers that have tried it like it to! Knowledge dispels fear! I love it! 5 years ago at a dropzone I swore black and blue that you would never, ever get me near that thing...4 years on and hanging out more at the dz watching, listening and learning before I started jumping certainly helped to calm the nerves a bit! I do h&p's usually from around 4 or 5 grand - mainly to practice something new with my canopy. It gives you the chance to completely concentrate on your canopy work rather than having to add in freefall rw as well... Do you tell your employer that you do skydiving?
Silverchic replied to bastichu's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I started after I'd been in my job for a year and all of the guys at work are great - their local pub is only a couple of hundred metres away so they joke about watching me fall out of the sky! Contacts or glasses to jump?
Silverchic replied to virginflyer3's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Has to be contacts! But I couldn't go back to wearing glasses now for anything...I have contacts that I leave in for almost a month and haven't lost one yet - haven't even felt them (but tight goggles is definitely a good idea). Having only recently (about 6 months ago) changed to contacts I can happily say it only takes about a month max until you become addicted to contacts! You took the words right out of my mouth Jase! But I connect my chest strap (not tighten) then tighten my leg straps THEN tighten up my chest strap. Although this is only because my rig isn't the best fit and I can't get the right tightness on my chest strap until my leg straps are done up right. "Check in! Check out! Ready, set..."
Silverchic replied to mattyblast's topic in Safety and Training
We did: Check in - ok from JM Horizon Up Down ARCH! And I found on the weekend when I'm doing a solo standard exit like that I STILL say to myself horizon, up, down ARCH! Sad isn't it? How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? -
What is your field of work?
Silverchic replied to Superman32's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
HELP! All these engineers! Sorry - I work with engineers (construction and marine) and most of them just drive you nuts! I've met some really nice ones but most of the younger ones just think they are best and everyone should listen to them...we make jokes about engineers! But I'm sure skydiving engineers would be different... How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? -

That's true - but I still don't regret buying one instead of a cypres... How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Looks good! Mine is the same colours (I go for dark colours - shows up less dirt!) but I also went for the tie-dye option. Hopefully mine should be here mid January! *cross fingers* I'm going on a skydiving tour of NZ in February so I hope it gets here in time to change my vigil and reserve over before I go... You're all making me jealous! I ordered mine a couple of weeks ago and I'm still waiting!! (Not very patiently I might add...) How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

If anyone is buying a new AAD I highly recommend a Vigil instead of a cypres...no servicing!
-
Yes ok I'd go with that - but he would at least have to buy some beer!

I remember we had 2 tandems that paid extra to go to 14K and we were all soooooooo excited and wanted to be on those loads - arguing about it and passing on the first 10K load...then we found out that if the plane was full it wouldn't make it to 14K!!! DropZones Where Radios Are Used- please post.

How would you teach a deaf student? What would happen even if you had a radio and it went dead? There's always a plan B - TA's and arrows are always good! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
